Get Smart
It’s been a regular feature of GO! programming for years but now Seinfeld turns up on 7mate. Continue reading »
A possible new direction for ONE?
So far, ONE has been the only commercial digital channel not to play classic TV shows at any time in its schedule.
That is set to change from Monday December 18, with M*A*S*H set to air at 6pm weeknights, followed by Get Smart at 6.30pm.
M*A*S*H was last seen on Seven at 5pm weeknights, before it made way for the 4.30pm news to extend to an hour, while Get Smart has aired previously on GO! and ELEVEN.
The move means Jeopardy! will be out of ONE’s schedule (disappointingly).
If these two classic shows do well in ratings, expect to see more classics start turning up on ONE.
COPS remains at 7pm weeknights.
We are not done yet with programming changes today!
Another one from ELEVEN – this time, Saturday nights get reworked – and they need it! Changes take effect from Saturday Feb 5.
Saturday night is ELEVEN’s worst night of the week in ratings, which is not good seeing it is also Ten’s worst night of the week, and ONE without AFL, barely manages a blip in ratings figures – an all round bad night for the Ten network. So the question must be asked – what were they thinking with Hogan’s Heroes and Get Smart on Saturday nights anyway? Did anyone think these shows would work in prime time?
Predictably, Get Smart has now also been dumped from Saturday nights on ELEVEN.
Instead, another ex-GO! show Frasier, coupled with Everybody Loves Raymond – in some programming looking more like something you’d see on GO! will now fill Saturday nights. Yes, if Nine episodes a week of Raymond are not enough, here are another two for you – why – that’s ELEVEN episodes a week now of Raymond (in prime time)! At least there are 10 seasons of it to get through!
Saturday nights (from Feb 5) on ELEVEN now looks like this:
6.00 Family Ties
6.30 Everybody Loves Raymond
7.00 Everybody Loves Raymond
7.30 Frasier
8.00 Everybody Loves Raymond
8.30 Frasier
9.00 Everybody Loves Raymond
9.30 Movie
Don’t get the reference to GO programming? Until recently, here is what GO had planned for Sunday nights:
6.30 The Middle
7.00 The Middle
7.30 The Big Bang Theory
8.00 The Middle
8.30 The Big Bang Theory
9.00 The Middle
9.30 Movie.
GO!, of course, have since amended the Sunday night line up to 2 Middles, 3 Big Bangs and a Two and a Half Men in that order.
Programming subject to change.
And here is the first “last minute” programming amendment for ELEVEN.
As of this Saturday, Hogan’s Heroes is out, and more Get Smart is in.
That means there will be four episodes in a row of Get Smart on Saturdays from 7.30pm, this Saturday January 22 and on subsequent Saturdays.
The move is obviously related to ratings – but I have to say – did anyone at Ten, ELEVEN or otherwise really think that Hogan’s Heroes would actually work on a Saturday night? Even Get Smart is risky.
Time for Ten to look at different strategy on Saturday nights – on both Ten and ELEVEN. The low shares for Ten – often below 10% on Saturday – coupled with ELEVEN having its weakest night – will not help in the long term.
Yes – what plays on ELEVEN, stays on ELEVEN, but this first amendment is a sign of what may come. Although – given, the state of the Saturday night line-up, maybe some changes to fine tune the schedule might be needed.
Overall, thought, Ten are happy with the performance of the channel – so far. The real test is yet to come – when all main channel bring back their big shows for ratings season 2011. The digitals will suffer. ELEVEN – with more new content than any of the other channels could well be in the best position, come ratings time.
It is still early days.
On the day we finally get GO on Foxtel Satellite – one of the better 7pm free to air options has been removed, effective immediately. GO – the channel that makes more last minute programming changes than the other free to air channels put together – strikes again.
As of today, Wednesday January 20, 2010, Entertainment Tonight will no longer be seen on GO at 7pm weekdays. It has been replaced with Get Smart.
No doubt the move is ratings related – with Nine last week also making the sudden change to 7pm on channel Nine replacing the daily version of Australia’s Funniest Home Videos with Two and a Half Men. With Mother and Son on 7TWO attracting well over 150,000 daily, GO seems to have decided the best way to go up against 7TWO is with Get Smart. Get Smart is also seen on Saturdays on GO, and has been ratings quite well.
When no sport is on Nine, ET is usually seen at 3pm weekdays. When the cricket is on, ET is not on at 3pm, so seeing it at 7pm on GO would be a good option. Now, if you don’t have pay TV, you’ll have to wait for 1am to see ET on Nine, or 10.30am the next day to see it on GO. ET still airs on Arena at 6pm AEDT.
