GOOD FRIDAY APPEAL SETS A NEW RECORD …  $15,820,640

RAISED BY CHANNEL SEVEN’S  2012 ROYAL CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL GOOD FRIDAY APPEAL

From 9am through to midnight on Good Friday, Channel Seven Melbourne broadcast the annual Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal live from Etihad Stadium.  

A host of Seven personalities donated their time visiting children at the hospital, taking calls in the phone room and signing autographs for thousands of people who had travelled to Etihad Stadium to join in the activities. 

Throughout the day and evening Seven stars joined  the Good Friday Appeal celebrations including Good Friday Appeal ambassador JENNIFER KEYTE, REBECCA MADDERN, JAMES TOBIN,  MANU FIEDEL and KERRI-ANNE KENNERLEY.

Home and Away stars LISA GORMLEY, DEMI HARMAN, LINCOLN YOUNES, DAVID JONES ROBERTS and LYNNE MCGRANGER; Packed to the Rafters favourite GEORGE HOUVARDAS and the cast of Winners and Losers, including MELISSA BERGLAND, VIRGINIA GAY, MELANIE VALLEJO, DAMIEN BODIE, TOM WREN, STEPHEN PHILLIPS, JACK PEARSON, SARAH GRACE and PAUL MOORE  who spent time chatting to children at the Royal Children’s Hospital throughout the day and in the night appearing on panels reading out donations. 

Hosting panels in the studio were; PETER MITCHELL, SANDY ROBERTS, LARRY EMDUR, HAMISH MCLACHLAN, NATALIE BARR and DAVID KOCH.

The evening telecast  featured  live performances  by DARYL BRAITHWAITE, JACK VIDGEN, REECE MASTIN, JOHNNY RUFFO, LIAM BURROWS with the GOOD FRIDAY APPEAL SHOWBAND, ANDREW WISHART and COSENTINO.

Channel Seven’s first Good Friday Appeal telethon was in 1957, soon after television was introduced in Australia.

SEVEN News will present a special broadcast live from the Royal Children’s Hospital tonight, as preparations continue for the 2012 Good Friday Appeal. 

Presenter Peter Mitchell will be at the hospital as we speak with the organisers who make it happen, with a full recap on news of the day.

Sports presenter Sandy Roberts and weather presenter David Brown will join Peter, as we prepare to celebrate this special day on the state’s calendar.

Seven News Director Steve Carey said the appeal was a big event.

CHANNEL Seven Melbourne is proud to telecast the 2012 ROYAL CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL GOOD FRIDAY APPEAL live from Etihad Stadium.

The biggest names in television and entertainment will gather for what promises to be the most spectacular Good Friday Appeal yet, with all money raised going towards medical equipment and research at the hospital.

This iconic and unrivalled fundraising event – which started in 1931 and has been broadcast by Seven for 55 consecutive years – brings together people from all parts of the community with the common goal of helping Victoria’s sick kids.

THE ROYAL CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL GOOD FRIDAY APPEAL has so far contributed more than $226 million to the Royal Children’s Hospital. Victorians donated a record breaking $15,156,000 in 2011 and the Good Friday Appeal is aiming to create a new record in 2012.

Throughout the day and night a bevy of Seven stars will join the telecast including Good Friday Appeal ambassador JENNIFER KEYTE, PETER MITCHELL, REBECCA MADDERN, DAVID KOCH, NATALIE BARR, MARK BERETTA,  LARRY EMDUR, GRANT DENYER,  MANU FIDEL and KERRI-ANNE KENNERLEY – just to name a few.

Also joining the telecast panel and taking calls in the phone room will be Home and Away stars LISA GORMLEY, DEMI HARMAN, LINCOLN YOUNES, DAVID JONES ROBERTS and LYNNE MCGRANGER; Packed to the Rafters favourites GEORGE HOUVARDAS, HUGH SHERIDAN and RYAN CORR; and the cast of Winners and Losers, including MELISSA BERGLAND, VIRGINIA GAY, MELANIE VALLEJO, DAMIEN BODIE, TOM WREN, STEPHEN PHILLIPS, SARAH GRACE and PAUL MOORE.

The telecast begins at 9am with SANDY ROBERTS in the hosting seat. During the morning Sandy will cross to JONATHAN CREEK from Today Tonight and AMY PARKS from 7 News who will be on the road covering a large number of fundraising events throughout Victoria.

KIM SPORTON will be reporting from inside the hospital, will deliver an insight in to the positive impact the appeal has and 7 News Health reporter KAREN O’SULLIVAN will be providing an update on patients throughout the day.

The telecast will pause at 6.00pm for Seven News, Today Tonight and Home and Away. Then at 7.30pm, The Morning Show co-host LARRY EMDUR will introduce the action-packed night of entertainment.

The evening telecast will feature live performances from DARYL BRAITHWAITE, JACK VIDGEN, JESSICA MAUBOY, REECE MASTIN, JOHNNY RUFFO, LIAM BURROWS with the GOOD FRIDAY APPEAL SHOWBAND, ANDREW WISHART and a special performance by COSENTINO.

HAMISH MCLACHLAN will lead an AFL football panel that includes MICK MALTHOUSE, MATTHEW RICHARDSON, CAMERON LING, LUKE DARCY and BRIAN TAYLOR.

Dancing with the Stars judge HELEN RICHEY and Better Homes and Gardens’ KAREN MARTINI and ROB PALMER will also be in attendance. And special messages of support from international stars will also be received during the night.

Over 600 volunteers manage the phone lines in the tally room and hundreds of other volunteers are involved in a variety of ways throughout the day.

Founded in 1931, THE ROYAL CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL GOOD FRIDAY APPEAL is an essential event for so many Victorians.

 

This iconic fundraising activity brings together people from all parts of the community in a very special way, with the common goal of raising money for Victoria’s sick kids.

 

Throughout the day and night a host of Seven personalities will be joining the telecast including; Good Friday Appeal ambassador JENNIFER KEYTE, PETER MITCHELL, REBECCA MADDERN, DAVID KOCH, MELISSA DOYLE, MARK BERETTA, FIFI BOX and KYLE SANDILANDS.

 

The telecast will get underway at 9.30am with SANDY ROBERTS in the hosting seat. During the morning Sandy will cross to a plethora of fundraising events throughout Victoria, including The Werribee Mansion egg hunt and the Henley Homes/Vic Urban house auction.

 

Home and Away stars AXLE WHITEHEAD, ADA NICODEMOU, ESTHER ANDERSON, TESSA JAMES along with Packed To The Rafters favourites ERIK THOMSON, MICHAEL CATON, GEORGE HOUVARDAS, ANGUS McLAREN, HUGH SHERIDAN and JESSICA McNAMEE will be popping in to the take calls in the phone room and joining in the fun on the telethon panel.

 

Veteran Good Friday Appeal supporter and Royal Children’s Hospital Ambassador DAN WEBB will be coming in for a chat and TONY PORTER will be reporting from inside the hospital, providing an insight on the positive impact of the appeal.

 

The telecast will stop briefly at 6.00pm for Seven News, Today Tonight and Home & Away.

 

At 7.30pm, GRANT DENYER will introduce the action packed night of entertainment.

 

The evening telecast will feature live performances from DAMIEN LEITH, VANESSA AMOROSI and JON STEVENS. Also joining the fun on the panel will be CORINNE GRANT, MOLLY MELDRUM, KATE CEBERANO and other Seven personalities.

 

BRUCE McAVANEY will lead a football panel with an interesting twist that includes; LEIGH MATTHEWS, MATTHEW RICHARDSON, TIM WATSON, TOM HARLEY, HAMISH McLACHLAN and Seven’s newest football funnymen PETER HELLIAR and PETER ROWSTHORN from The Bounce will keep everyone laughing.

 

Special messages of support from international stars will also be received during the night.

The Good Friday Appeal has contributed more than $197 million to The Royal Children’s Hospital since its inception and this year aims to significantly add to that amount. In 2009, Victorians dug deep into their pockets after the Black Saturday Bushfires to generously donate a record amount of $13,862,734.
