Two loved or hated TV stars are heading back to our screens. Tim allen of Home Improvement and Fran Dresher of The Nanny are premiering new sitcoms in the US this week.
Tim Allen is starring in the series “Last Man Standing” in a sitcom about his life with three daughters, a wife and him being the lone man. It also stars hector Elizondo (Concierge in Pretty Woman) and Nancy Travis (Mum in Three Men and a Babby series).
Here is the ABC networks synopsis: Mike Baxter is the marketing director for an iconic outdoor sporting goods store. He loves to have adventures while he’s traveling for work and, of course, he drives a pick-up truck. While Mike is king of the hill at work, he’s the odd man out in a home that is dominated by women — namely his wife, Vanessa, and their three daughters, 22- year-old Kristin, 17-year-old Mandy and 14-year-old Eve. After being a stay-at-home mom for years, Vanessa recently returned to the workplace and was quickly promoted (much to the dismay of her primarily male co-workers). As a result of Vanessa’s increased work load, Mike is pulled into more hands-on parenting than ever before.
While the ever whiny fran Dresher will be in Happily Divorced, a comedic look at life being married to a gay husband. Happily Divorced is inspired by the real lives of series creators Fran Drescher and Peter Marc Jacobson, who had been high school sweethearts and then married in 1978. They divorced in 1999. Jacobson later came out as gay to Drescher and the two remained friends. In 2010 the pair, who had previously created Drescher’s earlier series The Nanny, began developing the series based on their life experiences. Initially Drescher planned only to write and produce Happily Divorced but eventually decided to star as well. TV Land gave the green light to a pilot episode in November 2010. The network has announced that the series has been picked up with a ten-episode order.
No word yet on pickup’s here.
