Home and Away

Aside from the lovely shots of Hawaii, tonight’s episode just made me cringe. I still don’t really understand what exactly they are doing ‘business wise’ in Hawaii, but they sure look like they are having a good time. Romeo swapped his first class ticket for two economy ones so he could bring Indy along with him. Sid is of course, the last person to know that his daughter is off on a holiday and he doesnt take it well. In fact, Sid gets very, very drunk, spills some secrets he shoudn’t have to both Miles and Marilyn, and wakes up with more than a headache the next morning. After asking Miles if he is willing to offer Marilyn a place to stay (what a jerk, seriously…?) he works up the courage to tell Marilyn it’s over. When he gets home though, he finds candles, dinner and a very happy Marilyn. Obviously he can’t tell her now can he….? The whole scene just made me feel terrible for Marilyn.

Now over in Hawaii land, Romes is doing a terrbile job of marketing himself and his business, and Indy is offered a job within the first hour of being there. Gotta love the irony in that. Obviously Roo is there to provide some much needed advice and support. Her wise words of ‘take the job, doesn’t mean you and Romeo have to be seperated’ are taken a little too literaly by Romeo and by the end of the episode he is proposing. Really?? Are they seriously going to get married? Didn’t they just get back together? After lots of mistakes, Romeo sleeping with Ruby & another chick and something about an STI? That’s a lead up to a marriage propasal if I ever heard one. Maybe it’s the romance of the place, but I have to say, I spent 2 weeks in Hawaii and it didn’t make me want to marry the first guy I saw.

As I said, very cringe worthy. Looks like Sid is hopping the next plane to crash the wedding… which means Roo and Sid together in Hawaii…. I think we all know where this is heading?

Home and Away’s Ray Meagher has signed on for another stint on the West End in the musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

The actor left Home and Away temporarily last year in order to take on the role of Bob the mechanic in the London production for six months.

He will return to the production from October 5 this year, though it is not known for how long.

Well well, it’s all making sense now. I should have known that this Hawaii trip would somehow involve Roo. What an idiot. That really should have been my first guess. So since John and Gina can no longer attend the covention / promotion / business trip / whatever is actually happening in Hawaii, John offers the trip to Roo and tells her she can bring someone with her. Somehow, in a bid to try and make Romeo seem more appealing to Sid (why?), she tells Romeo to pack his bags. He is the lucky boy going with her. And yes, John did have to ask if Romeo was her toy boy… number 1, Eeeew, and number 2, you wish Roo…

Indy and Romeo are having serious issues with Sid. Basically, Sid is a grumpy, angry man who seems to really hate Romeo, even more so than he hates his own life at the minute. Sid’s and Roo’s relationship is still quite a strange one and the two share a lot of inense gazes at innapropriate moments. They have an afernoon drink at the surf club where Roo flicks her hair and giggle like a school girl… now thats some A grade flirting if I ever saw it. When Sid gets home Marilyn gives him he unfortunate news that Indy has moved out. Nice one Sid, I think that may have been your fault.

So after Romeo and Indy have had a ‘sleepover’ the night before, she then arrives with a bag and asks if she can move into his bedroom. Miles doesnt have much choice but to let her stay with them. Everything sounds great, until Romeo mentions he is flying to Hawaii tomorrow. How awkward, now Indy is expeced to live in Romeo’s bedroom while he goes on a trip to Hawaii.

Romeo makes a sneaky phone call late at night asking Jetstar (nice advertising) to make a change to his booking. Dont know how hes affording it, but nice one.

Oh, and did anyone see the bit where Roo popped her head through the window…?? such a typical Roo thing to do. Hilarious…

So its not just another day in Summer Bay next week is it…? Mai tai anyone?

Hmm, so while last nights Home and Away was a bit of a dud, tonight’s was filled with a lot more drama. The writers must have suddenly had a few bright ideas and decided to put them all into one episode. Sounds like a typical soapie thing to do really.

Elijah finds out he has been outed by the church, (really, are we all that surpirsed?), and after not being able to find his number one friend choice, he decides to confide in Leah instead. They share this weird moment where Elijah holds her hand for a minute while looking at her intently. Creepy much?

Ruby, Casey, April, Xavier, Dexter and Kate head off on their camping/surfing trip. Love that the van Casey borrows is the same van that the river boys kindapped Dexter in when they first came to town. And that Dexter gets to point this fact out! Of course, there is also a mega storm brewing, but the teens still head out to Nelson’s Noose… nothing like a nice, dangerous surf in the midst of a storm right?

Now of course, we can’t have an episode without Roo popping her head in, and tonight was no exception. Hovering in the background of the diner, she overhears Ruby talking about where their going and warns her of the dangers of surfing this Noose place. Charlie, like the great mother she is, has no idea that Ruby was even going camping until a minute before, and Roo like the good meddler she is, lets slip where they are headed. Charlie loses it, makes a angry call to Brax (when are these two going to sort it out? I actually like them as a couple!) and heads out in the police car to track them down.

Back on the beach, Ruby thinks about her promise to Roo not to surf the Noose by looking out into the ocean with a intense gaze. Casey quickly changes her mind with the old ’roundhouse hug’. For those of you who dont know, the ’roundhouse hug’ is when the guy stands behind the girl and wraps his arms round her waist; a move that Casey and Ruby have perfected since they started dating. In fact, I dont think Ive ever seen them stand any other way. Dexter and fake girlfriend Kate are doing a good job at making everyone want to throw up, but while everyone else hits the water, Dexter spills the truth to April about him and Kate. Man these two are awkward, I’m not the only one who thinks this right? Before Dexter gets round to telling April how he feels, Casey and the girls are dragging an unconcious Xavier out of the surf. Oh dear, looks like this kid is going to end up in the hospital again… how many times is it this month?

And while you may think that was the main event of tonights episode, it was far from it. Coleen getting supposedly struck by lightening while talking on the oldest mobile phone I’ve seen on TV in years was clearly tonight’s highlight. Damn that was some good television.

Oh well, just another day in Summer Bay… :)

So sometimes Home and Away has those episodes where you struggle to remember what actually happened, even though you watched the show from beginning to end. That could be because sometimes, nothing much happens, like at all. Tuesday night’s episode was one of theses nights, thats for sure. Marilyn went to the city to visit a very happy Nicole, and drop off some weird looking toy that George left behind. Considering Nicole hated Marilyn last week, and the whole ‘she kind of kidnapped my baby thing’, the two of them had a nice chat and forgave each other. Marilyn got to see George, and was shocked when she relaised they hadn’t changed his name. Quite frankly, so was I! I know everybody named George must have been a baby at some point, but it just doesnt seem like a baby name to me. Everytime I hear them refer to George I automatically think of a short, forty something, balding man. Although that train of thought might have something to do with watching Seinfeld for all those years?

And what is the deal with Elijah and Laura? Are they not the oddest couple you have ever seen together? Why do they keep giving Elijah love interests when he is supposed to be a ‘Man of God’ as they say? So they were off last week, back on this week. who can really be bothered keeping up? Roo and Sid had what looked like ‘a lovers tiff’, even though they are not actually a couple, and Roo after always being so involved in everybodys life realises she has no one and sulks for a little while. She even picks up a photo of her Dad, Alf and wishes he would come home. Now thats just getting a bit sad…

Oh, and speaking of sad, some chick goes out with Dexter in return for biology tutoring. Yeah, I think this was definately a filler episode.

Still, Just another day in Sumer Bay…

It’s hard to decide what my favourite part of tonight’s episode was. There were just so many memorable moments. Romeo deciding which of his two failing businesses he should spend more time on, Roo talking in a weird high pitched voice all night and suddenly realising she knew how to fix a boat engine, Morag being…well Morag or Casey deciding it was finally time to unleash his bad side and become a real river boy. The possibilites are endless.

Now honestly, what is the deal with Romeo? I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t be starting up a boating charter or a surfing school in a town where there never seems to be any tourists. Um, you know everyone in the town…and by the looks of it, everyone can surf. Seems like an odd thing to quit school for yeah? Oh well, at least he’s a good lifeguard. No wait, someone nearly drowned tonight. Come on Romeo, you really have to try and be good at at least one of the occupations you have going here.

The river boys caused a bit more havoc, having a truly pathetic wrestle on the beach, making too much noise in the surf club and eventually swaying Casey into being a bad boy with them. I think it had something to do with the black eye they gave him, as soon as Casey got that shiner…well it was his turn to live up to the Braxton name a little bit better. When talking to Ruby, he tells her that he wants to be someone. “Maybe being a river boy is what I’m good at”. Ruby’s response of “your good at plenty of things, like surfing, and being my boyfriend”, doesn’t inspire much confidence. I’m pretty sure that wasn’t the answer he was looking for? If someone told me that was all I was good at, well that might just make me want to throw myself into the surf while Romeo is on lifeguard duty.

Looks like we will have to wait and see what happens on Monday. I think it’s possible that Romeo will end up involved in the river boys mess (should have stayed in school!), Heath and Brax are up to something very dodgy, oh and Roo makes an appearance. But that’s no real surprise is it?

Just six days after the X Factor finale, host Luke Jacobz will hop on a plane in a bid to launch his acting career in the US. Jacobz – best known here as policeman Angelo Rosetta in Home And Away – is to follow in the footsteps of Sam Worthington, Ryan Kwanten and Joel Edgerton to name but a few and give the States a crack.
He will also give ex-co-star and good mate Chris Hemsworth a call to see if he can crash on the Thor star’s couch. His final scenes in Summer Bay are set to air soon and Jacobz is desperate to add his name to the Gumleaf mafia.

“I’m going over just to try my luck over there,” he said. “I’ve never had the chance to go over because I’ve been busy working, so this year I’m making sure I just do it.” Jacobz, who was drafted in last year to host X Factor following Matt Newton’s meltdown, has already lined up auditions and digs.

“I might ring Mr Hemsworth and crash on his couch for a while,” he said. The pair worked together until Hemsworth left in 2007 to carve out a Hollywood career, most noticeably in Thor. In the meantime, Jacobz is auditioning for some other acting roles that will work in with his X Factor hosting duties. “During the live rounds you generally have the weeks free and I’m hoping to be doing a bit of work. There’s talk of something happening in September,” he said. The new series of the talent quest will air on Seven later this year.

Former ‘Home and Away’ and Logie winning actress Kimberley Cooper, who played Gypsy Nash, will return to the Summer Bay soap later this year. Kimberley has spent the last few years doing pantomimes in London and theatre in New York. After travelling to Los Angeles and seeing the struggles of other actors, she quit acting and worked in a bar, where she met her now husband.

Cooper returned to the set last month yet has kept quiet on her return stating “Let’s just say it’s dramatic, in true Gypsy style.” Coopers character “Gypsy Nash” is expected to return to our TV screens from September.‘Home and Away’ airs weeknight 7:00pm on the Seven Network.
