Hot Property
Aussie favourite, Michael Caton, presents a brand new series of Hot Property.
Aussies love their real estate and the dramas associated with buying and selling by auction. In Hot Property’s latest outing we meet the nervous vendors and buyers and watch the market dictate the real price of real estate. Packed with up-to-date market info, Hot Property is a must-watch for any home buyer.
Each week, Hot Property, hosted by Michael Caton, follows the fortunes of buyers, sellers and renovators around the country who are negotiating the challenges of the real estate game. Will their real estate dreams come true?
This week, on Hot Property… When it comes to property development Duarte and Veronica are a perfectly matched couple. He’s a builder and she’s an interior designer, and when you add Duarte’s architect brother into the mix you have a winning team.
The couple purchased their Drummoyne, NSW home with the plan of doing it up and selling it for a profit back in 2006. Since then they have spared no expense lovingly renovating the house. But, now it’s time to move on to their next project – building a duplex. They’ve already extended themselves by buying the land, so the Drummoyne house has to sell.
Also, this week… Andrew is a real estate agent who’s entrusted his colleague to sell his house. He bought the old weatherboard in Bundoora VIC a number of years ago. He subdivided the block and built a townhouse in the front. Andrew and his wife Laura moved into the townhouse, renting the weatherboard out, but now they want to upsize and move nearer to Laura’s work, so the weatherboard has to go.
Question is – will Andrew be able to let go of the reins and keep his sensible agents head when the pressure of auction day hits?

This week on Hot Property Carol is selling her house in Botany, NSW that has been in her family for 70 years. Bought by her mother and father back in 1938, it was home to Carol and her four siblings till they left home.
When her father died, her mother continued to live there until her death last year. It was her mother’s wish the house be sold and the money divided amongst the children, but the place holds many memories, so auction day will be fraught with emotion.
Also this week, Le Bijou is a six-bedroom luxury mansion, set amidst 2 hectares of manicured garden in the ritzy rural suburb of Dural, north of Sydney. The elaborate mansion was lovingly designed and built by owners Zenko and Gabrielle, but they soon found out that living on a grand scale is a full time job.
The cleaning and mowing alone means they have to employ a small army of helpers to keep the place looking nice. Zenko and Gabrielle want to downsize and build a smaller property but the buyer for Le Bijou will need deep pockets; the auction price guide is a whopping 3.5 million.

This week on Hot Property… Ralph and Deb from Greenvale, Victoria may be pushing 50, but when it comes to fun they’re more like a couple of 25-year-olds. Their two kids have flown the nest, so now it’s time for the couple to move on and start their next adventure in life.
They’ve lived in their Greenvale home for about five years and it’s an entertainer’s paradise… There’s the tennis court, the media room, not to mention the nightclub complete with its own mirror ball. They’ll be sad to leave, but the property which is set on five acres is simply too big.
Also, this week… Helen and Karen are in love with their Carringbah, NSW home. It’s the perfect pad with a beautiful open plan living area, which spills out into garden. The girls have had many happy times here, and when they bought the place together three years ago they never imagined they would leave.
But life has other plans in store for them…Helen is being transferred to Brisbane for work and Karen recently had a serious health scare. The girls hope their move to the Queensland coast will give them a more relaxing life.

This week on Hot Property, Paula and Robert are selling their Sydney home to be closer to their business – distributing milk to commercial premises. They have already forked out one million bucks for a new house and it’s a beauty.
The enormous house sits opposite a park and has everything the couple have ever dreamed of. Now all they have to do is sell their old home. Easier said than done.
Also, this week, Linda Wilde, author of the educational sex book “Sex. Do you want more? Yes, Please” has decided to sell her Gold Coast townhouse. She’s selling up to consolidate debt and to fund the publicity of her book, so it’s time to downsize and move on.
But when you love a place so much, it is hard not to have high price expectations. Setting your sights too high can be the death of an auction, so will Linda’s strategy pay off?

This week on Hot Property newlyweds Ramy and Sonia thought they had hit the jackpot when Ramy and his father Hany decided to build a duplex together in Revesby, NSW. Not only would it end their renting woes, they would also have babysitters next door when they decided to start a family – perfect!
But after four months of living in their new home, with their parents as neighbours they want out! As Ramy says, “If you can walk to your parent’s house you’re too close.”
Also this week, we meet Dena and Nick. When Dena and Nick first saw their Henley Beach (SA) home they knew it was the one for them. The stone cottage in the trendy beach suburb suited them perfectly, but then Nick’s work got relocated to Sydney, so the couple had to up sticks and move.
They wanted to hang onto the cottage, but once they checked out the prices in Sydney’s competitive real estate market, they knew they had no option but to sell. The only problem is Dena and Nick want big bucks for their cottage, well over a million. Will the market meet their expectations or will they be disappointed?

Aussie favourite Michael Caton will present a new series of Hot Property which premieres this Thursday at 8.00pm on Channel Nine.
Aussies love their real estate and the dramas associated with buying and selling by auction. In Hot Property’s new season we meet nervous vendors and buyers, and watch the market dictate the real price of real estate. Packed with up-to-date market info, Hot Property is a must-watch for any home buyer.
Each week Hot Property will follow the fortunes of buyers, sellers and renovators around the country who are negotiating the challenges of the real estate game to see if their dreams come true.
Michael Caton says: “Hot Property looks at the highs and lows, the elation, the success and the disappointment of the real estate game.”
Episode one starts with Tammy who bought her first place, a unit, for $237,000 in 2007. It was in a block of eight and they were all sold at the same time. The new owners formed lasting friendships and Tammy is very emotional about leaving. She is moving to a new, bigger apartment she bought off-the-plan 18 months ago, thinking it would give her enough emotional time to prepare for moving – but now it has come around too quickly and she is having second thoughts.
We then meet Natalie and Matt and their two children, who are hoping to break a suburban record. They are auctioning their single-story home and chasing an ambitious $800,000, which is $20,000 more than the highest price paid for a single-story house in the area. They are confident they will get their price, but will the auction go as planned or will they be left empty-handed?
