Jacobsen will be in the series premiere where his character will be involved in the trial of a Muslim student accused of murdering his Jewish classmate.

In other news from the set, there are reports that Broadway star Bill Heck has been cast as the “much younger Legal Aid” — and potential love interest to Christine Baranski’s Diane. Baranski will also reprise her role as Leonard’s mum on The Big Bang Theory in the seasons premiere.

The Good Wife will be back on Ten in 2012.

Desperate Housewives to end next year

Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry has confirmed that the series will end next year. Cherry says the drama series will conclude after its eighth season.

Lawrence close to TV return

Martin Lawrence is reportedly close to landing a starring role in a new sitcom for CBS in the US. The comedian made a name for himself on the small screen in the ‘80s sitcom What’s Happening Now!!.

Brandy to guest on 90210

Awards for Modern Family, Mad Men, Friday Night Lights

Modern Family, Friday Night Lights and Mad Men were the big winners at the recent Television Critics Association Awards held over the weekend in LA. Modern Family won the ‘Outstanding Achievement in Comedy’ award while Mad Men claimed the ‘Outstanding Achievement in Drama’ title. Friday Night Lights was named ‘Programme of the Year’.

Two And A Half Men
From the set of Two and a Half Men, comes a picture that may give a hint to the prognosis of Chalie Harper. In the first picture from the set we see Holland Taylor-who plays Charlies mother, dressed all in black. Has she just attended a funeral? Reports also have a lot of tension on the set as the crew adjust to Kutcher, with some claiming he is a diva, while others feel very loyal to Sheen. Two and a Half Men airs on Channel Nine – no word on if they will “fast track” the new season that premieres on September 19 in the USA.

Wilfred

Wilfred has been renewed for a second season in the US, with 13 episodes being ordered. Star Jason Gann said “I’ve been around long enough in this business to know until it’s happening it’s not happening. Once, in Australia, I had two TV shows and a feature film up and they all fell over. I got one show back up, Wilfred, and then the complete ass feel out of my career and I was evicted from my house. It was awful. I went form hero to zero. In November this year, it will be 10 years since I wrote the short film [on which Wilfred is based] with [co-creator] Adam Zwar. Even though we only did 16 episodes in Australia, and already we’ve done 13 here and by the end of next season, this [the U.S.] version will be the Wilfred that is the show. For me, it is the show. It’s incredible that the character has stuck around that long.”
It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia has been picked up for two more seasons as well. Wilfred airs on Eleven at 9.30pm on Tuesdays and It’s always Sunny…. airs on the comedy channel at 10pm on Wednesday nights.

House
House will start season 8 an entire year after the end of last season. “The advantage of going forward a year is that everything’s changed, and changed dramatically. ”series creator David Shore said.
We will see House is in prison, serving a sentence for inflicting armageddon on Cuddy’s house; there’s a new Dean of Medicine, and he/she is someone viewers know well; and House’s diagnostics team has undergone a facelift.
The big leap also gives House time to adjust to life after Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein – who is headed to The Mentalist). “I think it’s a smart idea [in light of the fact that] Lisa left the show,” noted Aussie co-star Jesse Spencer. “I think it was kind of necessary to do that. If we picked up right where we left off and Cuddy wasn’t there it [would be strange].”
House airs on Channel Ten and will be back in 2012, while The Mentalist airs on Channel Nine and is also scheduled for a 2012 return.

Fringe
Joshua Jackson has opened up about the Fringe final that saw his character Peter Bishop flicker out of existence. But now, in the wake of Peter’s season-ending act and its dire ramifications, his connection to Olivia (played by Aussie  Anna Torv) “is on an epic scale as well,” Jackson notes. “This guy sacrificed himself for the woman that he loves, which made that relationship more interesting and it launched us into the off-season with this ‘Holy s—t!’ moment.”
“Part of the reason they ended up making the decision to go with that cliff-hanger is because there’s a belief, given how passionate our fans are, that there is a level of trust in us — and we are all keenly aware of not violating that trust,” he shares. “So as much as there was a freak-out and panic, it was done with the hope that everyone understands that we’d never [mess] with our audience, which has been so faithful to us and kept us on the air.
“It was just a case of stealing a page out of [executive producer] J.J. Abrams’ playbook,” he continues, “and keeping people on their toes with anticipation… and then hopefully satisfying their desire.” Fringe airs on GO!

Kutcher’s character revealed

The name and background of Ashton Kutcher’s character on Two and a Half Men has been revealed. The actor will play Walden Schmidt, described as an “internet billionaire with a broken heart.”

Yi joins House

Actress Charlyne Yi, who has appeared in the likes of Knocked Up and Paper Heart, has joined the cast of House. Yi will play a junior doctor on the drama series.

Entourage sued by reality star

The creators of Entourage are being sued for copyright infringement by Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio, a veteran of MTV’s Real World series, over the use of the name “Johnny’s Bananas”. Entourage is featuring a fictitious TV show featuring a cartoon ape which goes by the same name.

How I Met Your Mother
Kal Penn, from House is set to join the cast of How I Met Your Mother this season as a love intrest for Robin. Penn left House to work in the Obama administration as an associate director in public liason. Penn’s arrival of course reunites him with Neil Patrick Harris, who played, well, “Neil Patrick Harris” to his Kumar in the Harold & Kumar films.
HIMYM exec producer Craig Thomas strongly hinted to TVLine in May that Robin would jump back into the dating scene, especially now that her maybe-soul mate Barney had moved on with Nora: “Robin didn’t do a hell of a lot of dating at all [last season]; she was more [immersed in] switching careers,” he said. “Now, Robin, who’s single and is looking forward a little bit, can’t help but wonder if what happened between her and Barney could have been something more had they been more ready.”
Barney growing up a bit via Nora “has not gone unnoticed by Robin, who did not have a serious love interest this past year. She’s definitely going to have to wrestle with that at the start of Season 7.”

Airing here on Channel Seven at 10.30pm on Mondays – it has not had the same success here as it has there, even though reviews were posotive for the show that was a mild spin-off of the 1980′s film. Being Human that debuted on Eleven earlier this month has also been picked up for a second season. It airs Mondays at 9.30pm.

House
In other House news, Aussie Jesse Spencer has signed on for Season 8 of the medical drama. The producers were apparently desperate to keep him after the departure of Lisa Edelstein who is heading to “The Good Wife”.

To underscore her resolve, she added: “Definitely. Not.” She later added that she hopes that Pompeo and Dempsey will stay on and that no new cast members will be added this season.

Castle
Penny Johnson Jerald, known as the wife of President Palmers wife on 24 (One, Mondays at 8.30pm) is to join the set of Castle as Captain Victoria Gates. Gates will be a no nonsense Internal Affairs investigator who clashes with Castle. Jerald replaces Ruben Santiago-Hudson, who played Captain Roy Montgomery. astle airs on Seven on Sundays.
