Law and Order:CI

A few amendments to Ten programming in the week commencing August 29 as the network gears up for the launch of Junior Masterchef and possibly also in response to Seven’s launch of The X Factor that week from Monday August 30.

On Tuesday August 31, Rules of Engagement has been pushed out of the schedule, to be replaced with a repeat of Modern Family. The repeat episode will be that series’ second called “Bicycle Thief”. Only three episodes of Modern Family remain after that Tuesday.

It seems to happen every year – but yet again – new Simpsons will be pushed out of Ten’s schedule, together with the repeat that was to follow on Wednesday September 1. Replacing the Simpsons hour will be episode 2 of Undercover Boss which looks at the Hooters chain of restaurants. Including the episode bumped, only 4 more Simpsons episodes remain for season 21. Expect to see them in summer.

When undercover Boss premiered back on July 25, episode 1 was shown, followed by episode 3 on the Monday night, with the Hooters one being skipped for no apparent reason. This means that the final episode of the 9 part first season should be seen the following Monday, September 6th.

Law and Order Criminal Intent has its season finale on Wednesday September 1, 9.30pm, following the second last episode of Lie to Me at 8.30pm that night. Lie to me is a repeat on August 25.

Ten will be airing the airing the 62nd Prime Time Emmy Awards at 10pm Monday August 30. If you want to see them live, the ceremony will be aired on FOX8 from 10am eastern.

Meanwhile New Zealand series GO Girls returns to Friday nights with its season 2 premiere. Numb3rs is gone from the schedule for now.

Seems that Ten’s venture into weekday movies was only a short term solution, lasting just three weeks.

On Wednesday May 19, Lie to Me returns at 8.30pm, followed by Law and Order Criminal Intent at 9.30.

Lie to Me returns with season 2, episode 8 entitled “Secret Santa” which sees Lightman during the holiday season asked to go to Afghanistan on a mission to retrieve two captured Marines with the help of an American expatriate who might have flipped sides.

Law and Order CI returns with ep 1 of season 9 “Loyalty”.

The first two episodes of season 9 will change the face of CI.

When an African sheike is gunned down just after his marriage, an international conflict arises. Major Case Captain Ross appears to be embroiled in the scandal, dealing with those who mean to harm the sheike.

It is left to Detectives Goren, Eames and Nichols to prove their boss’ innocence by fighting through political scandal and FBI red tape.

Helping on the case is Detective Serena Stevens, who’s transferred in from Chicago under mysterious circumstances, to partner with Nichols.

In this two-part story, the Major Case unit will welcome new faces and say goodbye to old friends.

Lie to Me – Wednesdays, 8.30pm on Ten from May 19.

8.30pm thursday / August 20

A football team wins homecoming and celebrates by throwing a party complete with beer and strippers. When the party turns sour, one of the girls, Carla claims she was raped and the high profile case involving three of the football players becomes front page news.

The other stripper Traci is found dead after being pushed down the stairs outside her apartment. Traci was going to testify on behalf of Carla in the rape case against the football players.

As the investigation by Det. Falacci and Logan begins, all evidence points to Carla’s boyfriend and he quickly becomes their number one suspect.

Just when they think they have closed the case, Gene Hoyle, Bronx A.D.A. pops up on their radar.

After further investigation it is revealed that Gene Hoyle, was fighting to get justice for the underprivileged people living in the Bronx and takes up Traci’s case, pinning the rape on the football player Tim Pardue.

It becomes apparent that Gene’s case was flawed because there was no convincing or conclusive evidence that Tim was even involved with the alleged rape of Carla.

The plot thickens when Det. Falacci and Logan discover that Traci was never going to testify in court because she didn’t want to lie under oath – a fact that left Gene unfazed.

This lack of concern demonstrated by Gene leads the detectives to his wife Beth in search of the true story. Aftermeeting Beth, the detectives realise that she may be somehow involved in the case.

Beth, who has spent her life moving from one elite society marriage to another, has a lot more to loose than her husband Gene.

Was Beth responsible for the murder of Traci, or will the detectives use her as a pawn to catch the real killer?

8.30PM THURSDAY / JULY 10

We finally meet Det. Logan’s new partner – Det. Nola Falacci (played by Alicia Witt).

In this episode, Detectives Logan and Falacci investigate the brutal murder of an Obstetrician/Gynaecologist (OB/GYN) found posed in a ritualistic fashion, spread eagle on an exam table.

Logan and Falacci learn the victim ran a private fertility practice with his brother, also a doctor, convincing them a pro-life activist is to blame. They interview the office genetics counsellor and an angry patient who claims the doctor performed an abortion on his wife, but an analysis of the crime scene suggests a different scenario.

Further evidence leads the detectives to realise the members of his wealthy family may have been involved in the crime. The list of suspects include the victim’s own son, his brother, and the nephew he never even knew he had. Their suspicions take a new twist, when the DNA evidence from the murder comes in.

8.30PM THURSDAY / JULY 3

In the seventh-season opener, Det. Eames must reinvestigate her husband’s murder after his former partner is killed. Det. Eames informs Goren that the victim was her husband’s partner on the night he was killed.

As the detectives delve into the case, they interview the fallen officer’s partner, who feels that the murder could be gang related. He also claims he can make an ID of the suspect if presented with the opportunity. When the main suspect is arrested, the witness detective identifies him as the shooter, but Goren discovers the officer’s early stages of macular degeneration (MD), which makes his testimony inapplicable in a court of law.

The case takes a major turn when a drug dealer is gunned down in a park. Eames recognises him as the man who had testified against the shooter in her husband’s murder trial 10 years ago. It is now clear that her own personal involvement in these murders is deeper than she originally presumed.

Meanwhile, Goren works tirelessly to examine forensic evidence and deduces that the man who was charged with killing Eames’ husband could be innocent. His instincts tell him that a young man, infuriated by the incarceration of his innocent father, must have had a motive to take the law into his own hands.

TRIVIA:
Macular degeneration is the most common cause of blindness in Australia (and in the western world generally). There are currently around 35,000 Australians aged over 50 that fit the legal definition of blindness (that is, they see at six metres, what people with ‘normal’ vision see at a distance of 60 metres). In over 80 per cent of these cases, MD is to blame.
