As the US ratings season for 2010/2011 draws to a close, US networks have been announcing the axing of numerous shows.

ABC (US) have axed Brothers and Sisters, which airs on Seven on Monday nights to a rather strong audience for that time. No Ordinary Family has also been given the chop – so far it has aired on Seven for just two weeks.

Not doing well here or in the US is Detroit 1-8-7. Here, Seven have pushed the gritty police series back to 10.30pm Wednesdays.

A show that has been pushed back so far into digital channels and extreme late night timeslots is The Event, from NBC. After failing to attract an audience early on Friday nights, it now airs at 1am Saturday nights on 7mate. The Event has now been axed – hopefully the series will have the chance to conclude, rather than leaving viewers with unanswered questions. And what of The Cape? Treated the same here by 7mate.

Next on the list is V. A series which already had its second season shortened by 3 episodes. At the end of the season, there are still unanswered questions. V aired on Nine, then on GO! who are currently replaying the first series after midnight Wednesday nights.

So far unaired, are Nine network acquisitions Mr Sunshine and Better With You. These two shows are now gone, so the chances are they will end up on GO! or Gem or on Nine during summer, if at all.

US network FOX have axed Lie to Me. On Ten, Lie to Me has been sliding in numbers so far in 2011, but that has not been helped by a raft of timeslot changes and generally inconsistent programming. In the US, falling ratings for its latest season drove the decision not to renew the show.

Other shows axed include Off The Map, Law and Order: Los Angeles, Outsourced and Perfect Couples, while Chuck – one thought definitely gone by a number of sources, will have one more season only.

New J.J. Abrams pilot picked up

J.J. Abrams new drama pilot Alcatraz has been picked up by Fox in the US. The series, which follows a group of prisoners who escape from the island prison, features Lost actor Jorge Garcia and New Zealander Sam Neill.

Lie To Me and Human Target cancelled

Lie To Me and Human Target have been cancelled by their US network this week. The Tim Roth-starring Lie To Me ran for three seasons while Human Target ran for just two.

Pressly’s comedy pilot picked up

Jamie Pressly’s new comedy pilot was also picked up by Fox. Pressly and Katie Finneran feature as a pair of mothers who discover their daughters are similar to the bullies they encountered when they were at school.

Mos Def joins Dexter cast

Hip hop artist Mos Def is joining the cast of  Dexter for a multi-episode arc on the show’s sixth season. He will play an ex-con who claims to have found religion yet seems to continually find himself surrounded by violence.

9.30pm Wednesday May 4 on Ten

5. No change to Thursdays, AFL states remains one week behind the rest for The Good Wife and Law & Order: SVU.

On The Biggest Loser Families, it is make over night – where the contestants get their makeover after being seen for months in their gym clothes.

The next few weeks on Ten.

The following week April 10-16 is the last week of ratings before summer. Expect another special at 7.30pm Monday, House back at 8.30 and Good News Week 9.30, before both having a break over Easter.

April 17-23 is the first week of Easter non-ratings, which will probably be filled with repeats. Same with the second week April 24-30.

Then – May 1 – Sunday – Logies night – ratings returns for the rest of the year. With Easter non-ratings from April 17-30, expect the finale of The Biggest Loser Families to air after Easter, possibly Sunday May 1, the same night as the Logies or even May 8. Masterchef series 3 also starts in May – most likely on the Monday after The Biggest Loser Finale.

1. Later Sunday schedule in NSW and VIC.

2. Glee break.

On Monday, March 28, with no new episodes to air, Glee will have a break (thanks to a break in the US). Instead, the special [UPDATED] Oprah and the Cast of Glee (a repeat) will air.

The next new episode of Glee does not air in the US until April 12, which means we will most likely not see it here until after Easter – Monday May 2 (as we will have two weeks of Easter non-ratings and it is very unlikley for Twn to air any episodes during this break).

3. Wednesday night.

Another two hour comedy special on Wednesday, March 30, means that Lie to Me is out of the schedule again.

Just for Laughs Montreal Comedy Festival: Join host, Pamela Anderson, as she invites the world’s best comedic talent to the strut their stuff on the international stage for the biggest annual comedy festival in Montreal!
