Lost

Extended Lost ending on DVD

There has been talk that the season 6 Lost DVD could include an extended finale. A source at ABC leaked the information, saying the box-set will feature an additional 20 minutes of footage. They went on to say that the producers of the show had wanted to include the additional scenes in order to answer some of the questions that fans may still have after the finale screens towards the end of May.

MacLachlan leaving Wisteria Lane

Another Wisteria Lane resident is set to leave, with news today that Desperate Housewives regular Kyle MacLachlan, who plays wheelchair-bound Orson Hodge, will depart the series. MacLachlan follows fellow cast members Drea de Matteo (Angie) and Dana Delany (Katherine) in leaving the show next season.

Bad reality show idea

Here’s another addition to the list of reality shows that really shouldn’t have been made: Auction Heroes. Ordered by American network Spike, the show takes two ordinary friends who each purchase a storage container full of stuff and have to re-sell the contents off at pawn shops for a profit. It is described as being as “cutthroat as Wall Street”.

Twitter sitcom

A new sitcom is in the works at American network CBS which has been based on a Twitter page. The series entitled “Bleep My Dad Says” is inspired by the supposedly hilarious utterances of a retired doctor posted on a Twitter page by his son. Signed on to play the dad is none other than William Shatner.

Heroes movie?

Heroes creator Tim Kring has planted a small seed of hope for fans of the cancelled series by saying he is investigating a number of ways in which they he can “keep the Heroes universe alive for its fans”. In short, he is not ruling out a possible movie or mini-series wrapping up the Heroes story.

Susan Boyle on Glee?

It has been confirmed that reality show sensation Susan Boyle has been offered a guest role on hit musical series Glee. The show’s creator Ryan Murphy says the idea has been pitched and while he would love the Britain’s Got Talent runner-up to appear on the show he doesn’t even know if she’s interested.

Madonna sequel on Glee?

In related Glee news, Murphy has also announced that a follow-up to the hit Madonna episode of the series may take place next season. He says the “sequel” episode will be a part of next season but is unsure as to whether the singer herself will make a cameo appearance despite being a fan and avid supporter of the show.

Smallville ending

American network The CW has confirmed the final season of drama series Smallville. The show, which charts the early years of Clarke Kent as he eventually becomes Superman, has run for nine seasons to date with a tenth and final on the cards this year.

The producers of Lost have quashed any rumours there may be a movie based on the series.

Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have ruled out the possibility of a movie, saying they want the series to stand on its own.

“The chances [of a movie] are very little,” Cuse said. “We don’t have any intentions of doing that. This is the story we wanted to tell, and it ends next Sunday night, and we were incredibly grateful that we got a chance to do it.”

The pair also said they do not plan on making another series similar to Lost.

“The thing that made Lost Lost was the idea of doing something different and unique and the idea was special and unexpected,” he said. “We could never even try to replicate this thing. We would both die happy if Lost is the greatest television achievement of either of our careers. I hope we work together again, but who knows what it’ll be.”

The Lost finale screens on Seven at 8.30pm on May 26.

100 props from TV series Lost are about to go under the hammer.

With the finale of the series closing in, the producers are looking to auction the props off from the various seasons of the show to anyone who is interested.

The props include Charlie’s acoustic guitar, characters’ boarding passes for the Oceanic Flight 815, Hurley’s striped canteen, Desmond’s backpack and sets of Oceanic Airlines water bottles and life jackets.

The auctions can be viewed at ProfilesInHistory.

The final episode of Lost will air on Seven on May 26 from 8.30pm. The final episode of Lost will be a two and a half hour offering, and airs just days after it does in the us – who see the final Lost on Sunday may 23.

This means that viewers will be able to see Lost in HD at the same time on 7HD. An encore will play on 7TWO at 11pm. For those who have not been following Lost but are interested in seeing what all the hype is about the finale, there is a two hour catch up special called Lost: The Final Journey on 7TWO on May 25 at 9.30pm, and on Seven at Midday May 26.

The finale completes the shows’ run seen in Australia on 7TWO this year, after not attracting enough ratings to be left on the main channel at a decent hour. Heroes and 24 have suffered a similar fate.

Seven’s choice of Wednesday May 26 for the final Lost goes against Nine’s State of Origin also on that night – which a select few who have spent money on the equipment will see in 3D (as well as being available at certain venues).

Next week’s Lost episode will hit Aussie screens just hours after it airs in the US.

With no new episode airing in the US this week, this allows Seven and 7TWO to catch up a week and run almost simultaneously as the show does on ABC over there.

Screening at 8.30pm on 7TWO next week will be ‘The Candidate’, the fourth-to-last episode of the hit show. The same episode airs in the US around midday Australian time the same day.

The Lost saga will wrap up for good with a two-hour finale episode, and may just be the most anticipated ending in television this year.

8.30-9.30pm Lost: Final Chapter (Special)

9.30-11.30pm Lost Season 6 Premiere

- SPECIAL 3 HOUR SEASON PREMIERE

7TWO presents the sixth and final season of LOST starring Matthew Fox beginning with the one hour special LOST: FINAL CHAPTER (8.30pm) followed by a two-hour premiere of Season 6 at 9.30pm.

A 2008 recipient of the prestigious Peabody Award and awarded the 2005 Emmy and 2006 Golden Globe for Best Drama Series, the final season of LOST is set to deliver  more of its signature action-packed mystery and adventure.

8.30-9.30pm  Lost: Final Chapter
What is the ultimate fate of the LOST castaways?  What is their destiny? These are the questions the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 face as LOST begins its sixth and final season.

Taking viewers through the story so far, Lost: Final Chapter will retrace the steps of the survivors from the time they board flight 815.  The crash, their bid for survival and numerous attempts to get off the island will be relived along with special character re-caps of the survivor’s lives before and after the crash.

9.30-11.30pm  Lost Season 6 Premiere

With only 18 original hours left until the  final episode airs, the island’s violent shifts through time were ended by  Locke when he travelled off-island in an attempt to persuade the Oceanic 6 to  return. Back on the island, the survivors’ stay in late ‘70s Dharmaville was over when their covers were blown and they were accused of aiding “The  Others,” and Sayid was gravely wounded.  In addition, Ben killed Jacob at Locke’s request. But since Locke’s body was found to still be inside the coffin, exactly who – or what – is John Locke?  And if Juliet was successful in detonating the hydrogen bomb, was she able to reset time, allowing Oceanic Air 815 to land safely in Los Angeles, or was the island destroyed along with all of its inhabitants?

1. Seven will now add a Saturday version of Weekend Sunrise from 7am – 9am Saturdays. That means that Saturday Disney will move to 9am. The move is no doubt in response to the fact that Nine’s Today ratings are closing in on Seven’s Sunrise on a daily basis. Nine suddenly introduced the Saturday edition of Today around the same time GO launched to a very negative reaction. By Seven having Sunrise at the same time, the chance for viewers to jump ships on Saturday to Today is minimised.

2. 7TWO will air the Sopranos from Tuesday Feb 16, at 9.30pm after 24. The Sopranos was one of the shows promised to come to 7TWO when it launched in November.

3. Still on 7TWO, US drama Kings, starring former Home and Away actor Christopher Egan, will be the channel later this month. It will air at 10.30 Wednesdays from Feb 24.

4. Medical drama Mercy starts on 7TWO on Wed Nov 17 at 9.30pm after Lost. Mercy was bumped out of Seven’s schedule due to low ratings back in October 2009.

5. If you have missed anything on Seven, and don’t have the internet usage available to use the 7PLUS catch up service, than check your guides for numerous encores and repeats of Seven’s new shows on both 7TWO and Seven. Last weekend saw many Seven shows repeated on both 7TWO and Seven, with the two My Kitchen Rules episodes airing three times last week for example.

6. Lost - which premieres on 7TWO Wed Feb 10, will also be seen on Seven at 11.30pm for those who don’t have digital. But the double episode will be split up meaning that Seven viewers will be a week behind 7TWO viewers. Lost fans, time to get digital TV!

Part of watching the Australian Open Tennis on Seven each year is seeing the ads for up and coming premieres on Seven that come “after the tennis”. Promo after promo – pretty well in every ad break – remind us what will be on the channel “after the tennis” but, until the end is closer, rarely give away the timeslots – usually a closely guarded secret until the last minute, with even advanced guides indicating several time slots as “TBC”

The Australian Open Tennis runs for two weeks, starting Monday January 18, and finishing with the Men’s final – often one of the highest rating TV events of the year – on the night of Sunday Jan 31. Until then, there is no normal programming on Seven from 11am until after midnight except for the 6pm News, Today Tonight, and Home and Away which returns 7pm Monday January 25th – during the tennis.

Shows being advertised include Desperate Housewives, Bothers and Sisters (both most likely to return to their usual Monday nigh time slots), Criminal Minds (possibly will be Wednesdays), Grey’s Anatomy (probably will return to Thursday nights), How I Met Your Mother, Family Guy, A Touch of Frost and Royal Pains. Ads are also running for the return of Airways.

Also promoted “after the tennis” with ads and sneak peaks is the premiere “Cougar Town” starring ex-friend Courtney Cox. Sneak peaks are now airing for the Marriage Ref.

Set to air on 7TWo in coming weeks is the rest of the current season of Heroes, the new season of 24 – which premieres in the US this week – and Lost – also premiering in the US shortly. This will in fact be the last season ever of both Lost and Heroes. Both shows were once top rating shows for Seven. At least they get to be played out on 7TWO.
