Machete Maidens Unleashed! 9.30pm ABC1

Karate-kicking midgets! Papier-Mache monsters! Busty babes with blades! Filipino genre films of the ’70s and ’80s had it all. With cheap labour, exotic scenery and non-existent health and safety regulations, the Philippines was a dreamland for exploitation filmmakers whose renegade productions were soon engulfing drive-in screens around the globe. This is the ultimate insiders’ account of a back lot where stunt men came cheap, plot was obsolete and there were very little clothes.

 

Everest: Beyond The Limit, 7.30pm ONE

This is season one of the Discovery Channel series that follows a 17 member production crew, 11 climbers, three guides, and a team of Sherpas up the formidable mountain. Double amputee, New Zealander Mark Inglis’ attempt to reach the summit is truly inspirational. Filmed with high altitude equipment and helmet mounted cameras worn by the Sherpas, the footage is spectacular, as is the series.

 

Private Practice, 10.30pm SEVEN

Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) heads home to Connecticut after last week’s heartbreak. Sam (Taye Diggs) and the gang decide to join her and re-encounter Addy’s brother Archer (Grant Show) who jumps in bed with one of the ladies. Back at Oceanside Wellness, Violet (Amy Brenneman) and Sheldon (Brian Benben) are in conflict over their patients, who are married, with one on death row.

Between The Lines, 8.30pm NINE

Hailed as a fun new series for Nine, Between the Lines is a panel based show fronted by Eddie McGuire and promises to deliver laughs through sports based comedy. The show will feature two teams of three players going head to head with Mick Molloy and Ryan Fitzgerald taking on the roles of team captains. Guest team members on the first episode include Lauren Burns who was Australia’s first Gold medallist in taekwondo at the 2000 Olympics; James Tomkins, who has won rowing gold medals for Australia; Jesse Martin, who at the age of 18 was then the youngest person to sail solo around the world; Dermot Brereton who kicked 464 goals for Hawthorn during his celebrated career. Also appearing on the show is Ed Kavalee and Peter Berner.

 

Man Made Marvels: The Sydney Opera House, 8.30 7mate

Tonight’s episode is about, probably, the most famous performing arts building in the world. This is the story of how the Jorn Utzon designed masterpiece, was created and constructed. Starting in 1959 and then finally opening in1973, it’s a piece showcasing our iconic structure that is recognised worldwide and its wonderful history.

 

Threesome, 10.40pm 7TWO

Due to an administrative error two male college students, the shy and intellectual Eddy (The Good Wife’s – Josh Charles) and the All-American jock Stuart (Stephen Baldwin), end up with a female roommate. The university thought that Alex (Lara Flynn Boyle from Twin Peaks) was a man (based on her name) and thus the three students are forced to live with each other until the university can move Alex to a female residence hall. Alex falls in love and tries unsuccessfully to seduce Eddy; Stuart is in love with Alex, and Eddy falls in love with Stuart. The trio become good friends and scare off anyone who tries to seduce the other. Eventually, Alex, Stuart and Eddy agree to have an actual threesome and then the drama begins.

Grey’s Anatomy, Seven, 8.30pm.

A shooting at Pacific College brings back painful memories of the siege for staff at Seattle Grace, and as victims pour into the hospital, April is given a chance to put her trauma training to the test. Meanwhile, the chief performs a painful procedure on a heroic police officer in the hopes that he can identify the gunman. Then, medics discover a familiar face lending a hand when they arrive at the scene of the crime.

Man Made Marvels, 7mate, 8.30pm

A documentary series that looks at some of the great engineering achievements around the world, including the many difficulties faced with completing these projects.

In this episode: Construction of South Korea’s KTX high-speed railway between Seoul and Busan has been beset with difficulties: from the treacherous terrain, to the project almost being completely scuttled by the Asian financial crisis.

Stargate Universe, ELEVEN, 8.30pm.

While beneath the ruins in an underground maze, the star ship Destiny jumps back into FTL, leaving Lt Scott, Eli, Chloe and Greer behind, trapped on a remote planet and lost with no way of returning to the ship.

Fool’s Gold, GO! 9.30pm.

First run on GO! This movie is about a happy-go-lucky beach-bum-turned-treasure-hunter who becomes obsessed with finding 40 chests of exotic treasure that was lost at sea in 1715. Stars Matthew McConaughey, Kate Hudson, Donald Sutherland

Timecrimes, SBS TWO, 10.00pm

Fleeing an attacker, Hector takes refuge in a laboratory atop a hill, where a lone technician ushers him into a strange contraption. He emerges shortly after to find that he has travelled an hour back in time. Coming across his future self will be the first of a series of disastrous unforeseeable consequences.

AFL Game Day returns for 2011 at 10am Sunday March 20 on Seven in AFL states and on 7mate at the same time in all markets. The 7mate airing of AFL Game Day will allow NSW and QLD AFL fans to see the show at the same time as those in the AFL states do.

In AFL states, the Amazing Race encore on Seven will move from 10am Sundays to 11am Sundays. Elsewhere, The Amazing Race encore remains at 10am Sundays with True Beauty from 11am.

On Sunday March 20 and 27, there is an extra two episode of Gene Simmons Family Jewels on 7mate, with two labelled as “adults only” from 8.30pm, following the usual two from 7.30pm.

Thursday night documentaries now include Mighty Ships at 7.30pm, Man Made Marvels at 8.30 – featuring Taiwan’s Hsuehshan Tunnel for the first episode – and all new Super Factories at 9.30pm from March 17.
