Yep – a very good question: With Nine and GO! messing around with Mike & Molly so much, just where are we up to with the show?
Well, I can tell you, that the new episode set to air on Nine next Tuesday night at 9pm is in fact season 1, episode 14: Molly Makes Soup.
In the US, they are up to season 2, episode 4.
And guess what: the complete season one of Mike & Molly is now available on DVD. That means you can see the remainder of season one’s unaired episodes on DVD already.
You see, this is what happens to shows that the networks do not air in a timely manner. Some series have specific DVD release dates – which means you can get them on DVD even before they have aired on free to air TV.
Others are not able to be released on DVD until all episodes have aired – which can be a rough trot for fans on shows who have to wait until they can but it on DVD.
Even with digital channels, shows still aren’t given the chance to play out. Mike & Molly was one of them, and now that the DVD of season 1 is out, episodes on Nine will struggle to rate.

Nine have moved The Joy Of Sets back to 10.30pm, after Survivor South Pacific as of next Tuesday October 18. On its first night, the Joy of Sets dropped over half of its 2.3 million viewer lead in from the premiere season 8 episode of Two and a Half Men. As the audience of Men has dropped, so too has The Joy of Sets – to the point where it was bringing down their whole night with not much more than 400,000 tuning in (OzTam 5 city metro).
At 9.00pm, after new Two and a Half Men will be a new episode of Mike & Molly – another show that has failed to attract ratings as well. It should do better than Joy of Sets, but probably won’t help Nine’s Tuesday night too much.
The night now looks like this:
7.30pm The Big Bang Theory rpt
8.00pm The Big Bang Theory rpt
8.30pm Two and a Half Men – new
9.00pm Mike & Molly – new
9.30pm Survivor South Pacific
10.30pm The Joy of Sets
11.00pm Embarrassing Bodies – new
Nine programming are all over the place at the moment.
The Farmer Wants a Wife, was advertised as continuing Wednesdays, but the network have changed their mids and will now air Farmer on Mondays at 7.30pm, from next Monday August 29.A strange move from Nine, seeing that the show has usually aired on Wednesday nights.
In its timeslot of 7.30pm next Wednesday August 31 will be a show called Same Name which sees celebrities move into the life of people with the same name as them, and try doing what they do for a day. The first episode features David Hasselhoff.
Ratings Gold? I think not!
This week. The Farmer Wants a Wife aired at 7.30pm Wednesday, the week before, Top Design. Looks like a new troublesome timeslot for Nine. Next week Same Name, the week after? Will Same Name make it more than a week?
Another show coming to Nine that looks questionable is 2 Broke Girls. Already slammed in the US as likely to flop, the new sitcom is possibly set to join the ranks of Mike & Molly, $#*! My Dad Says and Hot In Cleveland as failed sitcoms on the main channel.
Honestly Nine, why not put all these second rate US sitcoms on one night on GO! or GEM? They just don’t stand up on the main channel.
Low ratings again have forced Nine to dump Mike & Molly from their schedule, after just one week of airing at 8pm Wednesday nights. Instead, yet another Big Bang Theory repeat – which Nine tonight have been promoting as three episodes in a row on Wednesday from 7pm. Add that to all the episodes on GO!
Why they didn’t just leave new Mike & Molly on GO! is a mystery!
Over to Thursday night and 8.30pm for the next two weeks will be a Polar Bear doco, narrated by Jack Thompson. The doco takes over the timeslot vacated by yet another failed show hosted by Eddie MacGuire – Between the Lines.
Honestly Nine, time to realise there is only so much you can do with the same hosts all the time!
Meanwhile, promos are well and truly underway pushing The Block for 7pm from Monday June 20.
8:00pm – Monday, May 16 on Channel Nine
When Vince tries to strike up a friendship with Mike by inviting him to a big basketball game, Molly isn’t pleased with their newfound bond.
