Nine News

While watching Channel 9′s 11am News today, I was seeing their footage of Leonardo DiCaprio arriving this morning at Sydney airport. He is here to film Baz Luhrmann’s version of the film, The Great Gatsby.

So why oh why was I watching Sunrise yesterday with a reporter live at the airport waiting for him to touchdown? They promised he wouldn’t even be able to sneeze with out them capturing it. Well they seemed to miss something a bit more important than a sneeze – the right day!

The Sunrise reporter said on Sunday that he was whisked out a VIP entrance and was headed to his house, while here- apparently the famous Eastern Suburbs, Altona. Indeed!

Eva Milic has been confirmed as the replacement at Nine News Brisbane for departing weekend presenter Heather Foord.

The Gold Coast journo will take on the role alongside her usual duties fronting the network’s Coast bulletin from Wednesday to Friday.

“It was a little unexpected and it did feel a little like deja vu but really positively because I did enjoy my time in Brisbane and now that [my 18-month-old daughter] Lucia is bit older I’m really looking forward to sinking my teeth into it again,” Milic said.

“I was instantly so excited about the opportunity and I just don’t think you can knock back an opportunity that comes your way.”

Clint Stanaway has landed the role as weekend sports presenter for Nine News in Melbourne, as a replacement for Lisa Andrews.

Stanaway (pictured above with Lisa Andrews) will continue to work during the week as a sports reporter in addition to his new role with the network.

Former Olympic swimmer Giaan Rooney applied for the role with Nine but the network is said to have backed Stanaway due to his experience.

“When I started at 17 [newsreading] was definitely something I wanted to do at some stage,” Stanaway said.

Heather Foord has announced her departure from Nine News in Brisbane, where she had worked as a weekend presenter, among other roles, since 1987.

The 46-year-old told viewers on Sunday night that she was stepping down from the news desk in order to spend more time with her family.

“I’ve been doing this job for my entire working life. For more than twenty-three years I have been driving up the mountain to a job that I have loved and friends that I cherish, but it is time for me to spread my wings,” Foord said.

“It’s time for me to look beyond Mt Coot-tha and focus on the things that matter most in my life.

“I am very grateful to the Nine Network for accepting this decision, Nine has always understood and accommodated my need to find a happy work-life-balance. I feel very fortunate the network wants me to stay on and this new part-time role will give me an ongoing connection with this great team.”

Foord will become a substitute presenter for Nine during the holiday periods.

Nine is expected to announce Foord’s replacement in the next few weeks.

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake has rocked Christchurch, New Zealand, all but destroying the city’s iconic church and causing wide spread damage to the city and surrounds.

Australian TV networks have abandoned regular programming for now to cover this breaking story.

Seven, Nine and Ten all have live news, with reporters on the scene.

Both Sky News and ABC News 24 are using a direct feed of New Zealand’s TV3 for their coverage.

So far, no programming amendments have been issued by any network so it is unclear how long the coverage will continue.
