ABC4Kids’ popular series ‘Octonauts’ follows a team of adventure heroes who dive into action whenever there is trouble under the sea.

In a fleet of aquatic vehicles, the Octonauts rescue amazing sea creatures, explore incredible new underwater worlds and often save the day before returning safely to their home base, the Octopod.

Buoyed by the companionship of three leading characters – Captain Barnacles Bear, Lieutenant Kwazii Cat and Medic Peso Penguin – the Octonauts are always ready to embark on an exciting new mission.

In this 25 minute special – ‘The Octonauts and the Great Christmas Rescue’- the Octonauts travel to Professor Inkling’s childhood home for Christmas – an undersea mountain. But they discover that a rockslide has endangered the local creatures – including a rare species of golden coral, and Inkling’s little octopus nephew, Squirt.

With the help of the Octonauts’ latest invention, the Gup-X, they must rescue the creatures and save Christmas.

Sunday,14 August 2011 Captain Barnacles Bear, Lieutenant Kwazii Cat and Medic Peso Penguin return to ABC 4 Kids during the repeat screening of Octonauts, series 1. The popular series follows a team of adventure heroes who dive into action whenever there is trouble under the sea. In a fleet of aquatic vehicles, they rescue amazing sea creatures, explore incredible new underwater worlds and often save the day before returning safely to their home base, the Octopod.

Based on the richly imaginative books by award-winning design team, Meomi, the TV series combines elements of classic team adventure with dazzling CGI animation to transport preschoolers into a world they can’t ordinarily visit – the ocean. The show will arouse the curiosity and feed the imagination of preschoolers, answering questions on a journey of discovery through the world’s oceans.

EP1 – The Decorator Crab – Sunday August 14 at 8.00am on ABC 4 Kids When important objects go missing from their ship, the Octonauts stake out the thief who turns out to be a decorator crab, stealing their things to decorate his shell.

Octonauts, an ABC For Kids program, has achieved unprecedented success online and on air in its first four weeks of broadcast. 

The share among viewers aged 0-4 was 33% after its premiere on January 2 at 5.10 on ABC2. It also received a 39% share among the same audience after it aired on ABC1 on January 3 at 8.15am. 

Amongst viewers aged 5-12, Octonauts ranked number one on ABC1 rating the highest for series average and peak episode during the month of January. 

ABC TV online have also recorded success with the program after it nearly half a million plays across ABC TV’s iview and ‘Watch Now’ services.

ABC TV’s iview recorded 108,000 plays for Octonauts and placed it in the top program spot for the month of January.

During the same period, the ABC For Kids ‘Watch Now’ service recorded 370,000 plays of streamed video content as well as the Octonauts TV page receiving 94,000 visits and 123,000 page views.

Octonauts follows a team of adventurous heroes who dive into action whenever there is trouble under the sea. The series was adapted from the award-winning imaginative books by design team Meomi, produced by UK Company, Chorion (Olivia) and animated by Academy Award nominee Brown Bag Studios of Eire.
