Sherlock wins Best Drama BAFTA

BBC series Sherlock has beaten fellow drama series’ Misfits and Downton Abbey to take the Best Drama series award at the BAFTA Television Awards over the weekend.

Timberlake and Samberg reprise SNL characters

Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg will reprise their infamous ‘D**k in a Box’ characters for a new sketch on Saturday Night Live. The pair introduced their characters in a 2006 episode of the comedy series, with the R&B love song spoof.

The cast of Glee will once again pay tribute to Madonna in the second season finale this year. The cast will cover the singer’s ‘I Love New York’ track.

Sherlock actor joins The Hobbit

Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch has joined the cast of The Hobbit alongside his Sherlock cast-mate Martin Freeman. The actor, who portrays the famous detective in the BBC series, will join Sir Ian McKellen, Stephen Fry and Hugo Weaving in New Zealand for the film’s production.

New details on upcoming Spartacus season

Spartacus showrunner Steven S. DeKnight has released details on the upcoming second season of the drama. He says that the new run will portray Spartacus and his warriors as a “very dysfunctional family.” He said: “[In] most interpretations of Spartacus, they break out, and it’s like Robin Hood and his merry men. They’re all together and fighting the system. In our season two, they are not getting along. They all have different agendas [and] they all think [the uprising] should be done a different way, which is historically accurate.”

Hammond to host web series

Top Gear’s Richard Hammond will front a new web-only series called Richard Hammond’s Tech Head. The presenter will take an “irreverent look at everything from toasters to tanks” in the new series which will be available free on YouTube.

Prison Break actor offered pilot role

Prison Break’s Wentworth Miller, who played Michael Schofield, is said to have been offered a role in a new ABC pilot called Identity. The pilot will follow a specialist police unit which tackles modern crime such as identity theft.

Televised awards shows are proving as popular as ever with the two that took place yesterday drawing huge audiences in the US and UK. The BAFTA Film Awards drew its biggest audience since 2004 in the UK while the Grammys pulled its best audience since 2001 in the US.

Gervais to guest on Family Guy

Ricky Gervais has confirmed that he will voice a character on an upcoming episode of Family Guy. He blogged: “I recently recorded a guest appearance in Family Guy. It was absolutely f**king brilliant working with Seth, and he let me go crazy with ad-libbing. A new highlight in my career.”

Prison Break actor in running for Spartacus

Prison Break’s Dominic Purcell is said to be in the running alongside The Pacific’s Liam McIntyre to land the lead role in the second season of Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Purcell, who played Linc in Prison Break, filmed a screen test for Spartacus producers last week.

Survivor announces returning contestants

Former Survivor contestants Rob “Boston Rob” Mariano and Russell Hantz will return to the series in the next season of the show entitled Survivor: Redemption Island. The infamous pair will join another 16 new contestants on the series which features an all-new island where eliminated contestants will be given a second chance.

Sutherland joins online hitman series

24 actor Kiefer Sutherland has joined an online series entitled The Confession where he will star as a hitman who speaks to a priest about why his victims deserved to die. British actor John Hurt has signed on to play the priest in the series which comprises of ten five- to seven-minute episodes.

Former Prison Break actor Robert Knepper looks set to reprise his role as T-Bag on new drama series Breakout Kings next year. The actor said: “T-Bag will live again. What I realised by saying yes to that is now they’ll entertain the possibility of a T-Bag spinoff. Like a Hannibal Lecter-type series. Or a doll line. It’d be big with the kids!”

WOF contestant solves puzzle with one letter

A Wheel of Fortune contestant in the US has solved an entire puzzle by filling only one letter of the seven-word phrase. With $900 on the wheel, the contestant selected “L” and still managed to guess correctly the phrase: “I’ve got a good feeling about this.”

Wilde to return to House

There were questions as to whether the actress would return to the series after she departed to film a couple of movies, but Wilde says she is “coming back to House. This season, as a matter of fact. Hulk returning to TV

ABC has announced they are developing a new Hulk television series 28 years after Lou Ferrigno last featured as The Hulk on TV. The studio which produced the original series will once again tackle the Marvel comic book hero, saying they are in the early stages of development.

Jackson developing detective drama

Samuel L. Jackson is developing a new detective drama series called Hawkshaw which will focus on a young man who believes himself to be either a descendant of Sherlock Holmes or the great man himself. Jackson will work on the series with his Lakeview Terrace collaborator David Loughery. 

Casualty actor dies

British actor Simon MacCorkindale, who featured on English series Casualty, has died after a lengthy battle with cancer. The actor, who played Harry Harper on the BBC hospital series, passed away in London, aged 58.

Leoni developing new comedy

A new comedy series is being developed with actress Tea Leoni that will reportedly be set in the New York fashion industry. The actress is said to be playing one half of a dysfunctional partnership between two women who clash over their approaches to family and career.
