Q&A

ABC TV – TONY ABBOTT – LIVE ON Q&A

Monday 16th August at 9.35pm live (AEST) on ABC1

Liberal Party leader Tony Abbott will be Tony Jones’ special guest  on Q&A next Monday night, (August 16th) – LIVE at 9.35pm (AEST) on ABC1.

Before a live studio audience, at a venue to be confirmed, the Leader of the Opposition will take questions direct  from the studio audience as well as questions from Q&A viewers.

Last night’s (Monday, August 9th) Q&A – with Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, – was seen by more than 841,000 Australians – a record number of viewers for the program since Q&A’s debut in 2008.

Q&A has established itself as essential viewing for everyone interested in political debate.  It also gives the studio audience and viewers across the country – via the Q&A website at www.abc.net.au/quanda – an unprecedented opportunity to ask the questions they want answered.

Members of the public can get involved in a variety of ways:

The website is also the place to go to submit questions, and to upload video questions.

Q&A is on the campaign trail, hitting Brisbane for a live show at the Brisbane Powerhouse Theatre on Monday 2 August.

Queensland is absolutely crucial to the 2010 election campaign. Like New South Wales, Queensland has a number of critical marginal seats where the outcome of the election will be decided. It’s also where the mining tax is still hotly disputed and outrage lingers over the way Queenslander Kevin Rudd was dumped as PM to make way for Julia Gillard.

Joining host Tony Jones for this election special will be a panel of high profile Queensland politicians:

- Craig Emerson, Minister for Small Business

- Peter Dutton , Shadow Minister for Health and Ageing

- Barnaby Joyce, Leader of the Nationals in the Senate

- Larissa Waters, the Greens’ lead Senate candidate for Queensland.

“This is the first time Q&A has been to Brisbane,” said Tony Jones. “We’re looking forward to meeting members of our Queensland audience and giving them the chance to voice the election issues that matter to them.”

A live studio audience will put questions to the panellists.

Viewers can also contribute to the discussion via Q&A’s Twitter highlight’s feed, using #qanda and submit video and written questions via the website.
