Wednesday nights on TV is one of those nights that is yet to find its ground for 2012. When you think of Tuesday nights, there are certain shows you just know will always be on Tuesday night – such as NCIS on Ten, Packed to the Rafters on Seven and Two and a Half Men on Nine.

But this is not the case on Wednesdays. Please Marry My Boy on Seven had its first Wednesday night airing, after playing on Mondays for the past two weeks. That was followed by two new episodes of How I Met Your Mother, and then two repeats – a show this week competing against Nine and GO!’s multiple airings of The Big Bang Theory on the most-played sitcom on free to air TV of the week stakes. Please Marry My Boy is only a short series, so 8.30 Wednesdays on Seven will change soon, while the new season of The Amazing Race (US) settles into 9.30 Wednesday from next week leaving new How I Met Your Mother to settle into Monday nights after Revenge.

A classic episode of My Kitchen Rules on Seven last night (our review here) which saw QLD couple and villains Peter and Gary cook off a marathon three course meal last night was one of the best episodes of the series so far – if you missed it, watch it on catch up TV or on the weekend assuming Seven encore the week of MKR. As for Please Marry My Boy – I personally can’t see the attraction of the show – perhaps a fan of the show could please explain!

The talk of the night would have to be Sherlock – with rave reviews so far from those who have seen it. Sherlock is also a short series – just three two hour offerings, meaning Nine’s Wednesday nights will also change is a few weeks time – hopefully 8.30 Wednesday is where The Mentalist will settle in this year – we are now plenty of episodes behind the US to give The Mentalist and uninterrupted run.

RBT on Nine reminds me of Border Security on Seven. Sooner or later you have seen all possible scenarios then some start to stand out. I can’t help feeling, that every time I watch Border Security, there is someone who can barely speak English trying to bring food across the border and don’t understand why they have to declare it or what to do with the form they fill out prior to landing. With RBT, there are two stand out scenarios for me: 1. A person usually with a blurred-out face is drunk, caught, and then abusive to the police or 2. a person is drunk, but so happy to be on national TV, they don’t care about the repercussions.

Ten are out of phase with the other networks on Wednesday night – opting to air Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation at 8pm right after Biggest Loser (featuring The Walk and more Temptation last night), then The Good Wife – one of those shows that has aired on a few different nights since its premiere a few years ago – which now starts at the odd time of 9.10.

Ten had the same out of phase scenario on Thursday nights with A Gifted Man playing from 8-9 but have changed the line up so Law & Order: SVU starts at 8.30 instead, after a repeat of Modern Family. So far, Wednesday remains “different”.

Adam Hills In Gordon Street Tonight – yes everyone, it is back, and has been back since last week – ratings last week suggest that noone really knew it was on – is part of ABC1′s Wednesday night comedy night. Last night, it followed Absolutely Fabulous – the 20th anniversary specials. According to one die-hard Ab-Fab fan I know, the series should have been left alone where it finished – back in the 1990′s. Same jokes 20 years on just don’t work now!

Lost in the depths of digital channel programming was a new episode of The Simspons on ELEVEN last night – who else forgets its on because they are too busy watching or recording shows from the main channels? While on ONE – new Burn Notice continues Wednesday nights at 8.30pm – it it wasn’t for my TIVO season pass, it too would be forgotten about! This is one show that really doesn’t get the attention it deserves, and should air on Ten on a weeknight at 10.30pm.

7TWO – aka free to air’s version of UK TV – keeps Heartbeat alive at 7.30, but after 9.30 it seemed to be Hetty Wainthropp night. Meanwhile 7mate kept the Pawn alive last night with Hardcore Pawn and Pawn Stars from 7.30.

Can you believe the movie The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert is now nearly 20 years old? An interesting movie choice for GEM last night, while GO! had Zombieland at 9.30 – a free to air first – the first five minutes of which either got you hooked or had you diving for the remote looking for something else!

The stand out for SBS ONE last night was the final of From Sydney to Tokyo By Any Means, followed by a documentary that looked at the conflict between Russia and Georgia several years ago.

TV 4ME had the H2O Mop infomercial at 9.30pm – which makes the product look so good, that anyone who has dirty floors, walls or just about anything else on the house needing cleaning, is very tempted to buy one. If you are thinking of buying an H2O mop – do yourself a favour and go and see one for yourself at a Danoz store – then make your decision.

On Pay TV, FOX8 was the place to be from 7.30pm (or 9.30 via FOX8+2!) with Cricket Superstar (our review here), followed by new Grimm. At 9.30 It’s a Brad, Brad World premiered on Arena – what is that about I hear you ask? Read more on that one here.

What did you watch last night? What did you enjoy? What did you think of what you watched? Feel free to share your thoughts – now that our commenting system on Throng is a 100 times easier than it used to be – thanks to DISQUS!

‘Twas the week before ratings and Nine got in as many Big Bang Theory repeats as they could! Week 6 sees One Day Cricket return to Sunday and Friday nights, New Mentalist NOT on Monday night (amended out again), Two and a Half Men on Tuesday (now a repeat) and more Excess Baggage, including encores at 1pm Tuesday-Friday. Also at 9am weekdays from Monday Feb 6 Nine’s new Morning show – simply called Mornings airs for its first week (read more about that here).

Nine rearranges Wednesday nights.

Prior to its premiere on Monday, Nine were promoting that The Farmer Wants a Wife would continue Wednesdays, yet Wednesdays still featured Top Design in the schedule at 7.30 with RPA at 8.30.

Now, The Farmer Wants a Wife will air at 7.30pm Wednesdays, which will be its regular timeslot from now on. At 8.30 a repeat of The Mentalist (odd choice), followed by RPA at 9.30 then Top Design at 10.30pm. Meanwhile on GEM, the same episode of Top Design airs at 8.30pm, while The Closer and Rizolli & Isles revert back to their usual times of 9.30 and 10.30 respectively.

Nine’s encore Night – GEM Friday night.

Both the Monday night and Wednesday night episodes of The Farmer Wants a Wife will air on GEM this Friday August 26, from 7pm. Then, at 9.30pm is an encore of Underbelly: Razor (presumably in HD) for the benefit of those who did not catch it first time round or want to see it again. The Farmer Wants a wife is also encored on Nine on the weekend – check local guides.

$#*! My Programming Is?

According to a promo tonight on Nine, next Tuesday (August 30) at 8pm is a new episode of $#*! My Dad Says. My question is why? If it didn’t rate before, what makes them think it will rate now?

Other changes…

There was a The Block Unlocked scheduled for 6.30pm, Sunday August 28, now that is out, in favour for two episodes of RBT from 6.30 – 7.30pm. Monday August 29 at 8pm is TBA, while Big Bangs remain at 7.30pm Monday and Tuesday, as well as Thursday at 7.30 and 8.00pm. That’s on top of weeknights at 7pm, and a few episodes on GO!

Nine programing for the week August 28 – September 3.

Sunday August 28.

Nine are set to capitalise one more time with the success of The Block with one final episode of The Block Unlocked set air at 6.30pm Sunday August 28. While there are no details of the show yet, it will no doubt capture the couple’s views and reactions to the auction results and ultimate winner of the series.

Don’t forget, Throng will be live blogging the Block Finale, this Sunday (August 21) from 6.30pm eastern.

At 7pm that night is a repeat of RBT, followed by 60 Minutes at 7.30 and Underbelly: Razor at 8.30pm. The premiere of Camelot then airs at 9.30pm with a double episode. Read more about this one here.

Interestingly, a repeat of Flashpoint – a series that has done very well in Canada follows at 11.30pm.

Monday August 29.

Big Bang repeats air at 7pm weeknights, but there is also an episode at 7.30pm Monday night, with a TBA at 8pm.

At 8.30 is Rescue (Special Ops), followed by CSI: Miami (repeat) at 9.30pm.

Tuesday August 30.

No doubt this will change? Another Big Bang repeat at 7.30pm, and another TBAat 8pm.

At 8.30pm, is the premiere of season two of Top Gear Australia: Top Gear is back – bigger, brighter and faster than ever. Shane, Steve and Ewen add some spice to rally driving by introducing a dangerous twist: blindfolding the driver. Ewen declares his long-held dirty secret: he loves Volvos. Plus, Ewen and Shane head out to review the new Toyota iconic FJ Cruiser, and two six-time world champion surfer Layne Beachley in an attempt to break a world record. Also special guest Andy Lee.

That is followed by the season finale of Megacities at 9.30pm.

Wednesday August 30.

Here’s where some confusion sets in. According to Nine promos, The Farmer Wants a Wife continues on Wednesday nights, yet the series does not appear in advanced guides, nor is it in the EPG for next Wednesday August 23. Top Design is still salted for 7.30pm both Wednesdays. Look out for programming amendments on this one.

RPA and RPA: Where Are They Now? Both, at this stage, remain scheduled for 8.30 and 9.30pm respectively on the next two Wednesday nights.

Thursday August 31.

TBA from 7.30-8.30. Hamish & Andy at 8.30, with the Footy Show from 9.30pm.

Programming  subject to change – and there will be!! Check local giodes and look out for amendments!!

French Food Safari, SBS ONE, 7.30pm

In the final episode, Maeve and Guillaume are taken on a tour of one of the top Parisienne kitchens with three-Michelin-starred chef Guy Savoy, who cooks up some of his signature dishes. Then it’s a visit to one of Paris’s most famous wood-fired bread makers, Poilane, whose oven has been creating great sourdough for decades. Finally, there is breakfast in the markets of Lyon with legendary chef Paul Bocuse, who shares his thoughts on the future of French food.

Criminal Minds: Suspect Behaviour, Seven, 8.30pm

More of a reminder to fans that now it is on Thursday night as well. Tonight, the red cell team travels to Arizona to decipher the message a suspect is sending following two brutal murders.

Pawn Stars, 7mate 8.30pm

Moved to 7mate, after not doing the business on Seven. The authenticity of a Civil War saber is questioned when brought inside the shop for sale. Also arriving is a Fender guitar signed by Chuck Berry, and a National Register dated back to 1916.

The Big C and Weeds, GEM, from 10.40pm

If you missed them a few nights a go, GEM are replaying the two new episodes of The Big C and Weeds tonight.

The Big C: Season 2 opens with Cathy seeking a second opinion about her cancer, which doesn’t sit well with Dr. Todd. Meanwhile, Sean discovers that his sister is battling cancer while he’s dealing with the growing pains of living with a pregnant Rebecca; and Adam is less-than-happy about seeing a therapist.

Weeds: Season 7 opens three years after pot-dealing Nancy Botwin has done a stint in federal prison and has been paroled to New York City. She is placed on probation in a halfway house, but fully looking for an opportunity to fire up her canni-business and reunite with the men in her life.

The Defenders, ONE, 9.30pm.

And for fans of The Defenders, after the show was dumped from Ten’s line up, it now airs on ONE on Thursday nights. Nevada Vs Wayne: Nick decides to defend a personal friend charged with sexual assault. Meanwhile, Pete is stunned and a little bit upset when he is selected for jury duty.

Stargate Universe, ELEVEN, 8.30pm

When Camille and Sgt. Greer use the communications stones to return to Earth, they arrive to learn there is a high state of alert in anticipation of an attack from the Lucian Alliance.

RBT, GO!, 8.00pm

For some reason, RBT has ended up on GO! Was on Nine – look at all the shows on tonight that have gone to digital channels after airing on main channels! Tonight’s count, three – one for Seven with Pawn Stars, Nine for RBT and Ten for The Defenders with these three shows airing on 7mate, GO! and ONE respectively. Talk about musical chairs in programming!

Massive changes to the schedules of both Nine and GO! have come through overnight. Judging by the time they came through, it was a late night for programming staff at the Nine network last night.

Nine have released their schedule for the first week of Easter non-ratings, week commencing April 17. The schedule includes The Big Bang Theory at 7pm weekdays – like what Brisbane have already been doing, and many, many repeats of regular Nine titles.

Here’s the summary.

1. Sunday April 17

ACA Sunday remains at 6.30pm. At 7pm, is Easter with the Australian Women’s Weekly. 60 Minutes airsat 7.30 as usual.

After 8.30, The Mentalist will be a repeat, followed by another replay of the Harry’s Law pilot at 9.30pm.

2. Weekdays, 7pm.

After experimenting in Brisbane for a few weeks now with The Big Bang Theory stripped across 7pm instead of Two and a half Men, Nine are set to extend the move to the rest of the network, starting with the pilot on Monday April 18 at 7pm.

Should this programming remain, it will be an opportunity for fans to see the entire series in order at a stable time. Problem is, there are still extra episodes on Nine, as well as GO which may add to the confusion.

3. Monday April 18.

A repeat of Two and a Half Men is at 7.30, followed by a new episode of $#*! My Dad Says at 8pm. 8.30 and 9.30 TBA.

Note, however, that Two and a Half Men and $#*! My Dad Says BOTH also air on GO!

4. Tuesday April 19.

A repeat of Big Bang at 7.30pm (season 3), followed by another new episode of $#*! My Dad Says at 8pm. At 8.30 is a repeat of Top Gear, while 9.40 remains TBA. Kitchen Nightmares at 10.40 is new.

5. Wednesday April 20.

Getting boring now…

A repeat of Big Bang at 7.30pm (season 3), followed by another replay of the Mike& Molly pilot at 8pm. New RPA: Where Are They Now follows at 8.30pm.

At 9.30, the AFL states will have their Footy Show on, this is because there is an AFL match played on Thursday April 21 instead of Good Friday April 22.

NRL states get Embarrassing Bodies at 9.30, TBA at 10.30 and the AFL Footy Show at 11.30pm.

6. Thursday April 21.

7.30 will be a repat of RBT, a new episode of Getaway at 8pm. CSI at 8.30 is a repeat.

At 9.30 in NRL states is the NRL Footy show.

7. Friday April 22.

While AFL move their Friday night Football to Thursday night, NRL remains on Friday night with the usual two games. Wests Tigers Vs Brisbane Broncos is live at 7.30pm (NSW & QLD) and Manly Sea Eagles Vs Penrith Panthers is at 9.30pm.

8. Summary

This week sees 7 episodes of The Big Bang Theory on Nine and 3 on GO!, 1 Two and a Half men on Nine and 2 on GO, an episode of Mike & Molly on both Nine and GO and two eps of $#*! My Dad Says on Nine and one on GO!

It also sees repeats of The Mentalist, Harry’s Law and CSI on both Nine and GEM.

All of Nine’s three channels are subject to some degree of last minute programming changes as they realise that all three of Seven’s channels are whipping them in the ratings so far in summer. Yes, it’s non-ratings but they still have to make money from advertising which pays by how well shows do.

Some of these changes include tonight Mon Dec 13. Printed guides may as well head straight for recycling!

Here is the summary.

Nine

From Tue Dec 21, Australia’s Funniest Home Videos Daily Edition replaces Two and a Half Men and the Middle as the weeknight 7pm strip on Nine.

From Mon Dec 13, Monday night movies on Nine are out. Instead, the Mentalist airs from 8.30pm, CSI at 9.30 and Embarrassing Bodies at 10.30pm. The Mentalist is now two nights a week on Nine plus one on GEM.

From Sun Dec 12 (I know – yesterday! – but does effect Sundays from now on), RBT replaces Motorway Patrol at 7pm, while Chase goes into double episodes from 9.30pm. Without a Trace disappears again.

From Wed Dec 15, Better With You is replaced with Customs. So much for giving new shows a go over summer? New episodes of CSI Miami move into 8.30pm, replacing Cold Case. New CSI: NY follows at 9.30, with a CSI: Miami repeat at 10.30. A bit of a mixed up CSI night here, but at least some new episodes.

From Thur Dec 16, Two extra episodes of Two and a Half Men become a regular fixture. They follow Warnie at 9.30 on Wed Dec 16, pushing the movie Ocean’s Eleven back to 10.30pm. On Thur Dec 23, they air from 8.30 (8.40 in QLD) and 8.40 on Thur Dec 30, after Top Gear.

That’s just about every night changed.

GO!

From Tue Dec 14, Community drops to 1 episode per week and moves to 9pm, with the movie Man About Town to follow at 9.30. Dec 21 there will be two episodes of Community, but from Tue Dec 28, onwards it is one only.

On Thur Dec 16, Big Bangs are out in favour of a movie starting at 7.30pm. No news on subsequent Thursdays yet. More details at the GO Guide.

GEM

Mon Dec 13, 8.30pm The movie The Fugitive will air instead of Rizzoli & Isles which is now out of the schedule and Law and Order goes back to one episode per week – Tuesday nights 8.30pm only. As a result, Southland moves back to a 11.15 start and subsequent programming like Friends also moves back. Friends from 12.10am.

Amendments for subsequent Mondays on GEM are yet to be issued, but looks like movies on GEM in stead of Nine on Monday nights from now on.

6:30pm – Sunday, July 25 on Channel Nine

RBT, a compelling new series that goes behind the lines of the NSW Police force on random breath testing operations. From major roadside drink-driving operations and mobile breath testing to high- speed pursuits and drivers under the influence of drugs, RBT, narrated by Andrew Daddo, captures all the drama and danger that police face every day in their relentless campaign against drink driving.

As well as covering traffic operations RBT heads out to sea with the NSW Water Police who patrol the waterways where the blood alcohol limit is the same as on the road – .05.
