Rove LA

Joining Rove on the couch from the set of Rove LA on Monday October 3, are ANNA FARIS, DANIEL MACPHERSON and KEVIN SMITH.

Anna Faris currently starring in the new romantic comedy What’s My Number?, reveals that as a kid she had a pretty active imagination and regularly pretended to appear on talk shows with her orthodontic retainer that she believed spoke to her and wore purple gloves for four months in fear of being framed for murder.

Australian native Daniel MacPherson in LA for the audition circuit and who can be seen in the feature film The Cup, talks about being unconscious during hosting a live program and shooting sex scenes for television.

Kevin Smith has spent nearly twenty years as a writer/director making films such as Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Jersey Girl, Zack and Miri Make a Porno and his newest film Red State.
The controversial film maker is not backwards in coming forward about his advocacy for smoking weed, suggesting his productivity has gone through the roof since he started smoking it.

The one hour series also provides viewers with Rove’s take on the LA way of life and brings a weekly slice of Hollywood taking you beyond the tourist traps to discover why the phrase ‘Only in LA’ was coined. This week Rove visits the largest outdoor fair in the world – the LA County Fair, where he is shocked to discover some ‘only in America’ culinary delights such as deep fried Kool Aid and chocolate coated pickles. Rove also heads to Hollywood Blvd, and explores what Americans know about Australians.

Confirmed guests for episode four, Monday October 10 are American actor, comedian, and producer SETH GREEN, actress and model OLIVIA MUNN and MICHAEL WEATHERLY from NCIS.

ROVE LA Monday, October 3 at 8.30pm AEDT, exclusive to FOX8.

Joining Rove on the couch from the set of Rove LA on Monday September 26, are home grown international superstar HUGH JACKMAN, the very stylish TIM GUNN from Project Runway and American actor and comedian PAUL F. TOMPKINS.

Rove catches up with his mate Hugh Jackman before he travels back home to promote Shawn Levy’s Real Steel, a boxing drama set in the near-future where 2,000-pound human-looking robots battle one another. Hugh talks about being punched by his boxing coach Sugar Ray Leonard and reveals insights into his life before he was famous.

Tim Gunn, fashion mentor in the six-time Emmy-nominated series Project Runway, talks about the series, how he ‘makes it work’, that he doesn’t date, he can’t run and believe it or not was once a competitive swimmer.

Paul F. Tompkins has been writing and performing comedy for twenty years with countless accolades and roles in television and film (Weeds and The Sarah Silverman Program). He explains why Sci-Fi conventions freak him out and have traumatised him for life.

The one hour series also provides viewers with Rove’s take on the LA way of life and brings a weekly slice of Hollywood taking you beyond the tourist traps to discover why the phrase ‘Only in LA’ was coined. This week he visits the LA County Coroner’s gift store where the chalk body outline beach towel is the most popular item alongside BBQ aprons and toe ring key rings.

Let me start by saying how much I like Rove.  Yeah, you can see where this is going, can’t you?

Rove returned to our screens this week to pay channel Fox 8 with Rove LA.  Unfortunately, it’s kinda like the old Rove but without all the good bits.

Unlike on Ten where Rove surrounded himself with many loveable colleagues like Dave Hughes, Carrie Bickmore, Hamish and Andy, Ryan Shelton and Peter Helliar, Rove LA is a one man show very much like all the other US talk shows.  The only problem is the show doesn’t air in the US!

And in case the anticipation of having him back on our screens after a couple of years hiatus wasn’t enough, someone decided that he should attend a porn expo first off.  Perhaps the motive is you can only go up from the bottom.

While guests Lisa Kudrow, Kathy Griffin and Jerry Ferrara were typically entertaining in his company, there were some strange moments of awkwardness.  I’m not entirely sure which reality it is that a celebrity would offer random strangers to insert objects into their ass but was Kathy Griffin on Rove’s new show.  And despite the disclaimer that it was cliche, did Jerry really have to get an introduction to Vegemite? I mean, seriously.  Who wrote those gags?  A New Zealander?!

I am desperately hoping for everyone’s sake, especially Foxtel who appear to be proudly approving of their latest local content endeavor, that it pays off.

Rove, you’re so much better than that and I was really expecting more.

Am in a hotel in Coffs Harbour NSW and have AUSTAR and sooo wanted to watch it – is it us, Austar or Fox?

Ratings will be posted – not by me for a week as am on holidays and maybe less stories! Back Monday!

IS ANY ONE ELSE NOT GETTING IT! Have ROVE SCREEN SAVER!

Got it now at 8.50pm! Mid Show. No explanation. We did not see first 23 minutes here in Coffs Harbour.

Watched for a few minutes and can see why US didn’t pick up!

Rove LA airs on Fox 8 at 8.30pm on Mondys

YOUR SHOUT: THE HISTORY OF AUSTRALIAN BEER - Two-part Special
LOCAL PRODUCTION
Wednesday September 21 and 28 at 7.30pm
Australian Exclusive Premiere
Is there anything closer to the heart of Australians than beer? In the past 200 years the ritual of men sharing a beer has defined the Australian character more than any other. It’s brought men together in pubs and sporting grounds, lubricating our friendships, quenching our thirst and rewarding our labours at day’s end.
Beer has played a central role in our history as far back as Captain James Cook’s first charting of the East Coast of Australia in 1770, where Cook brewed beer to sterilize the ship’s fetid drinking water.
Today Australian beer is loved and enjoyed around the world, and two great corporations dominate local industry with sales of $8 billion a year.
Your Shout is the definitive history of beer in Australia, an untold story that both delights and surprises. It traces the
development of the most familiar brands including Fosters, XXXX, Coopers, VB, West End and Swan and examines
how regional variations in beer developed around the nation. Your Shout is the history documentary all Australia has
been waiting to see.

WHEN I KNEW – One-hour special
Thursday September 22 at 8.30pm
Australian Exclusive Premiere
Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato travelled across the US to ask 150 people in six different cities to talk about when
they first realised they were gay.

On September 19, two Aussies are bringing their US based shows to Foxtel. Curtis Stone is hosting the new series of Top Chef Masters, while Rove McManus is to debut his new talk show on Fox 8 at 8.30pm.

Top Chef Masters
Curtis Stone of Celebrity Apprentice and Surfing The Menu, will serve as the host of season three of Top Chef Masters, and the sexy Aussie chef couldn’t be happier about being on the other side of the challenges this time around.

“I think it’s good to have a chef on there who can empathize with the other chefs during the competitions,” Curtis told Slashfood.com. “I’ll be on the judges panel, but I’m not going to cast advice, because I don’t want to judge my peers.

“Top Chef Masters is a whole different ball game,” says Stone. “Top Chef is a great show, but with Masters, these guys are seriously established chefs on the restaurant scene with Michelin stars, James Beard awards, and all that stuff.”

Definitely a little more refined than Curtis Stone’s competitors on Celebrity Apprentice.

“The Apprentice was bizarre,” says Stone. “I was sitting there before the first day and Cyndi [Lauper] was sort of singing to herself and I was thinking, ‘What am I doing here with all of these freaks?’ But you know what? I made a lot of good friends from it.”

Top Chef Masters Season 3 will air on Arena on Monday September 19 at 8.30pm.

Rove LA
Apparently with a silmilar format to his show on Ten, Rove is headed back to our screens from Los Angeles in a new celebrity based variety show. McManus told the Herald Sun, “It will be that talk-and-variety style of show that I like doing, but a more simplified version.”

Rove LA will film in front of a live syudio audience in LA and be broadcast here within 48 hours, not live obviously, due to the time difference. Rove has made some great trailers that can be viewed on the Fox 8 website, spoofing Foxtel shows, Falling Skies, The Real Housewives and Deadliest Catch.

Rove LA will air on Monday September 19 at 8.30pm, on Fox 8.

Several reports are suggesting Rove McManus has landed a gig as a regular on Jay Leno’s The Tonight Show.

According to New Idea, the 37-year-old will appear on Leno’s show as a reporter as well as presenting his new Foxtel series Rove LA.

McManus moved to Los Angeles with wife Tasma Walton over a year ago to pursue an American TV career.
