Sex and the City

More emotional family drama than the sass I was expecting. It was actually quite depressing besides the music and 80′s references.

I was very sceptical from the beginning -
1 – Anna Sophia Robb, who plays Carrie, doesn’t look like Sarah Jessica-Parker (except for the hair)
2 – How can it compete with Sex And The City, where will the talk’s be with teenagers and how will they talk about their rude bits?

But I got it all wrong, this is a teen show and should never be related to Sex And The City but of course it will always be. That’s the biggest mistake, as a stand alone show it would have been great but trying to see Carrie Bradshaw almost fried my brain, I am too close to the character Carrie, as she is/was now. WARNING – SPOILER ALERT!

Sarah Jessica Parker is returning to the small screen next fall for the first time since her Sex and the City days via a multiple-episode guest stint on Glee. Additionally, Kate Hudson will join the cast for a six-episode arc. Continue reading »

Do we really need a Biggest Loser recap episode on Friday nights? Like what Nine did with Celebrity Apprentice last year, the Friday night episode basically showed what happened throughout the week with probably about a minute of unseen footage – the very premise that the show hopes will keep viewers interested. For those who have watched Loser throughout the week, the Friday night episode just isn’t necessary.

Glee moved back to the more sensible time of 7.30pm on Friday night, with an episode that featured not one, but two proposals. Now – is it just me, or does the school bell ring in Glee ALOT more often than it needs to? Is the constant school bell there to remind us the show is set in a school?

To the cricket – and rain in Sydney washed out part of the match, which meant the target for Sri Lanka was adjusted accordingly. They absolutely whipped our butts – under the captaincy of Ricky Ponting. AT least the series is now not too one sided. The Cricket finished half an hour early which meant the Friday night encore of Alcatraz started half an hour early – so anyone who didn’t see it on Monday night, that hoped to watch on Friday night – and were not watching the cricket would have missed the first half hour – DUMB MOVE by Nine.

Play anything for that half hour – cricket highlights, an episode of the Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men – anything so that the programming that follows the cricket runs on time. Meanwhile on GEM, Sherlock encored in HD at the same time, while GO! starts playing the Harry Potter movies on Friday nights. GO! on Saturday night gave viewers one more chance to see the first two hours of Alcatraz.

A movie we know at our house word for word – Forrest Gump – aired on Seven – great to leave on in the background while doing something other than watching TV! 7TWO had two hours of Escape to The Country, while 7mate played the movie Arachnophobia from 7.30 in HD, followed by Morgan Freeman in Wanted.

Three episodes of The Simpsons on ELEVEN, Sex and The City still playing after, Bra Boys on ONE. Star Trek – again – on Ten. George Gently was back on ABC1, while SBS ONE had Coast – The Netherlands at 7.30 followed by Singapore 1942 – End of an Empire.

Tell us your thoughts – what you watched, what you think of what you watched, or if you are one of the many who were counting on the encore of Alcatraz that started half an hour early – as you quite simply could not fit it into Monday night’s new content overload.

An order for a pilot has been made for the The Carrie Diaries. No word on if Sarah Jessica Parker is set to reprise her role. But at 46 – it may be a bit of a stetch!

The Carrie Diaries is the coming-of-age story of one of the most iconic characters of our generation. Before Sex and The City, Carrie Bradshaw was a small-town girl who knew she wanted more. She’s ready for her real life to start, but first she must navigate her senior year of high school…

With an unforgettable cast of characters, The Carrie Diaries is the story of how a regular girl learns to think for herself, and evolves into a sharp, insightful writer.

And where to go to avoid the Royal Wedding other than going out, hiring a DVD or watching content from other sources?

While plenty of channels are covering the Royal Wedding there are still a few not affected by it. Not to mention the fact that Friday night football also airs as usual in its respective markets.

Here’s the run-down (free to air only*):

Sport:

Sydney & Brisbane only: NRL on Nine airs from 8.30pm with the Canterbury Bulldogs playing the Brisbane Broncos at 8.30pm and South Sydney Rabbitohs taking on Cronulla Sharks at 10.30pm

AFL: Sydney vs. Carlton play, and it airs on Seven from 7.30pm in Melbourne and Adelaide, 8pm in Perth. Sydney and Brisbane viewers can see the game on 7mate from 7.30pm.

ONE HD: The NBL Grand Final Game 3 airs from 5.30pm eastern with the NZ Breakers against the Cairns Taipans. WWE experience is at 8pm, UFC Jake Sheilds Special at 9pm, then UFC Prime time at 10pm. Based on Sydney times, other time zones check local guides.

Business as usual:

On GO!, its your typical Friday night with a Scooby Doo movie at 6pm, then The Benchwarmers at 7.30pm, followed by Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey from 9.15pm.

ELEVEN has its usual programming for the night with So You Think You Can Dance at 7.30pm, followed by Sex and the City from 9.30pm.

ABC3, SBS ONE and SBS TWO all feature regular Friday night programming, while ABC News 24 shows as regular programming as well, but the news will undoubtably be dominated with the Wedding. Regular programming also remains on 7TWO in NSW and QLD.

And, with the Chaser’s Commentary now pulled, ABC2 will has two hours of The Chasers War on Everything from 8.30pm. The Royale Family at 7.30pm.

Throng TV Spotlight Friday April 29.

*Obviously on Pay TV, those channels not covering the wedding will air what they usually do.

Just as I was praising how stable the programming was for ELEVEN in comparison to GO in another post, here comes some changes to the ELEVEN schedule, affecting Friday and Saturday nights from next week (Feb 4 and Feb 5).

On Friday night, 90210 has been dumped from the schedule. It was previously dumped from Ten a few years ago, after not achieving ratings to justify its timeslot.

With 90210 though, it was one of the promised titles for new channel ELEVEN. It was one of the many ex-Ten shows that were promised a time, place and new home on ELEVEN. Perhaps the problem is, that the core audience were not there at Friday 7.30pm – or the show is now been out for so long, that the real fans have already seen it by other means? Here is another example of a show where the timeslot perhaps was not thought out very well. Not to mention the fact, that the episodes shown on ELEVEN so far have already previously aired on Ten. Might have been more interest once they reached the first run episodes.

What ELEVEN should do is move 90210 to an afternoon weekend timeslot. Just like GO should do with Hellcats. It won’t make any difference to ratings results, but it will give people the chance to see the show if they chose to.

Moving on… the removing of 90210 means So You Think You Can Dance will now start at 7.30pm, from Fri Feb 4, and at 9.20pm Fridays, will be double episodes of Sex and the City, played from the beginning.

The new Friday line up on ELEVEN, from Feb 4, is:

7.30pm So You Think You Can Dace (US)
9.20pm Sex and the City ep 1
9.55pm Sex And The City ep 2

Some changes to the channel Nine schedule in Week 31, being the first week that Hey Hey is no longer on Wednesdays.

On Monday July 26 at 8pm, repeats of the Big Bang Theory are no longer on but a replacement show for that time slot is yet to be named. Two and a Half Men remains at 7.30.

Nine’s troublesome Tuesday sees ALL NEW Top Gear premiere, at 7.30pm, Tuesday July 27. New Top Gear is followed by Adults Only Two and a Half Men from 9pm, 20 To 1 at 10pm and Kitchen Nightmares at 11. Keep in mind that this is Tuesday programming here – so the only real certainty is that Top Gear will be on at 7.30pm, as Tuesday night programming subsequently changes numerous times beforehand.

Without Hey Hey, Wednesday night is an ALL NEW line up from July 28. At 7.30pm it is … wait for it… you guessed it! … more Two and a Half Men! Like Monday, 8pm is yet to be advised, while the Farmer Wants a Wife returns for its new season at 8.30pm.

At 9.30pm, Wednesday, July 28 will be the Sex and the City movie – as this should rate well, that time makes more sense than a Saturday night timeslot which the movie had momentarily been flagged for.

Assuming the above programming remains in place when the time actually comes, the Two and a Half Men count for Nine now sits at nine episodes per week, plus another two on GO!

For now, over the next two weeks, the 9pm Tuesday Two and a Half Mens are out to make way for repeats of the two Paul Hogan Show specials that aired last year, also on a Tuesday night. These two specials air at 9pm, Tuesday July 13 and 20, with Two and a Half Men from July 27. Note that, in both cases, Two and a Half Men was the originally planned program for those times.

Nine and GO programming changes are not easy to keep up with. Constant changes are exactly why Tuesday nights do not rate well for Nine. New Top Gear will be the only show that will end up rating on Tuesday nights.

Enough said for now!
