Survivor Nicaragua

Nine have released a schedule of sorts for their programming for the first week of summer TV, but is filled with so many TBA’s it is barely worth reporting. Like Seven, they have left many prime time timeslots as TBAs, with details to be released later. Unlike Seven, there is not even an indication of what shows might fill these times.

On Sunday November 28, new episodes of the Enforcers and Hot Pursuit continue at 6.30pm and 7pm respectively. That is followed by the Best of 60 Minutes at 7.30pm. The rest of the night is TBA.

On weeknights at 7pm, at this stage anyway, Two and a Half Men repeats will remain.

On Monday November 29, Two and a Half Men also airs at 7.30pm, followed by a Big Bang Theory repeat at 8pm. Rest of the night TBA.

Tuesday nights look the same as they will be from this week – Top Gear (UK, repeat) at 7.30, Richard Hammond’s Invisible Worlds at 9pm, Survivor Nicaragua at 10pm and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares at 11pm.

Apart from another Two and a Half Men on Wednesday at 7.30pm, the programs for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday Dec 1,2 and 3 respectively are all to be advised.

Then on Saturday Dec 4, Australia’s Funniest Home Videos continues with its summer edition while Celebrity Singing Bee airs at 7.30pm.

If all of those Two and a Half Men times proceed as scheduled, the end result is that you will be able to see Two and a Half Men 12 times a week between Nine and GO! Having the show on so many times a week could impact its worth in 2011 where repeats will have been so often, they simply won’t rate the way they used to. Only the new episodes will draw the numbers.

Stay tuned for details of what all these TBAs become over the next week or so…

Although, chances are, that Nine will make a number of amendments to programming for week 48, here is the first iteration of what will be on Nine in the final week of ratings of 2010.

On Sunday November 21, at 6.30pm, is The Enforcers, followed by Hot Pursuit at 7pm. At 7.30pm that night is the Twenty20 All Stars cricket. This means, that the last 60 Minutes for the year will actually be on November 14 at 7.30pm, unless they air an episode on Nov 28 – which is unlikely seeing that is then non-ratings.

At this stage, there will again be NO new episodes of Two and a Men and The Mentalist on Monday November 22. Combined with the repeats on Nov 15, that means the last new episodes for 2010 of both these shows will be this Monday November 8. New CSI: Miami continues at 9.30pm, with new True CSI at 10.30pm on Monday Nov 22.

On Tuesday November 23, there is no Top Gear Australia either – that means the last episode we‘ll see of the show this year is on November 9 at 7.30pm. At 7.30, is a new UK Top Gear, followed by Richard Hammond’s Invisible Worlds at 8.30pm. Survivor remains at 10pm with Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares at 11pm.

Wednesday November 24 has the final of The Block 2010, where the couple whose apartment sell for the highest price in the auction will be announced as the winner of the series. New Big Bang Theory follows at 9pm – which will most likely be the last of the new episodes seen here until 2011 – with new RPA at 9.30.

On Thursday, November 25, it appears that Getaway is off, replaced by Two and a Half Men, while most of the night is TBA – although I’d expect CSI to remain at 8.30pm. Expect some changes there later – maybe…

UPDATED: Shane Warne’s new Cricket Show – Warne’s World premieres Thur Nov 25 at 9.30pm on Nine. It is described by many as being the cricket version of the Footy Show.

Finally, Saturday November 27, at 7.30 is the final of Hey Hey its Saturday for 2010. It’s unlikely the show will return for anything but one off specials from next year on, if at all.

All of this programming is subject to change.

First Nine held off new episodes of shows on Monday night, now they are doing the same with Top Gear Australia on Tuesday night.

As we know, Top Gear Australia is off on Tuesday November 9 to make way for the National IQ Test. On the following Tuesday, November 16, the 4th episode Top Gear Australia has been shelved to make way for a repeat of episode 5 of season 9 of Top Gear.

That is followed by the series premiere of Richard Hammond’s Invisible Worlds at 9pm. The series focuses on what we can’t see – using extreme slow motion videos, it reveals extraordinary things happening that completely pass us by. This is a world where thin air can shatter rock and water can tear through metal.

That puts Survivor Nicaragua even later at 10pm.

Tuesday November 16, is the night of the finale of Packed to the Rafters. Not that it makes any difference to 7.30pm though – the move to show a repeat Top Gear could again be because Nine know they rate well and they would prefer to hold off the Australian series until later.

It could also be that Nine will save up the remaining few episodes of Top Gear Australia to use on nights where they have a better chance in the ratings. The last episode of the show fell short of a million, and Tuesday night is one of Nine’s weaker nights overall.

The Tuesday repeat of Top Gear means you can see it three nights that week, when you include those on Go on Sunday and Thursday nights.

Summary – Tuesday November 16, on Nine:

7.30 Top Gear repeat
9.00 Richard Hammond’s Invisible Worlds
10.00 Survivor Nicaragua
11.00 Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares
12.00 You Saved My Life
12.30 Entertainment Tonight
1.00 Skippy.

9:40pm – Tuesday, November 2 on Channel Nine

For the last 10 years Survivor has travelled to the farthest corners of the planet and subjected over 300 contestants to the harshest environments. As the next decade of Survivor begins this new group of strangers will compete in Survivor: Nicaragua.

The series begins with the castaways marooned in a land of smouldering volcanoes, exotic wildlife and impenetrable terrain. They will be forced to work together to adapt to their new surroundings, yet compete against each other to the stay in the game or be voted out. In the end, only one will remain to claim the million-dollar prize and the title of Sole Survivor.

The 20 castaways will be divided into two tribes of 10, comprised of older and younger competitors.

The Espada Tribe, made up of over-40s, includes a dog trainer, a fireman, a swimming coach and a real estate executive. They must prove they have the life experience and knowledge to ultimately help them outwit and outlast their younger competitors.

The La Flor Tribe, made up of under-30s, includes a physical education teacher, a club promoter and a medical student. They will have to use their youth and vitality to outplay and outlast their elders.

Will the life experience of the Espada Tribe or the physical performance of the La Flor Tribe provide the winning edge? Anything is possible in the enthralling new game of Survivor.

More irregularities in Nine’s schedule are afoot with more one day cricket and Four Nations in the second week of November. Because of Nine’s HD commitment to sport, the sporting events also spill over to irregularities on the HD channel GEM.

On Sunday November 7, the third and final match of the one day series of Australia vs. Sri Lanka airs live on Nine. It will be seen in HD on GEM. Even in Perth, which so far appears not to see the other two matches live, will see this Sunday match live.

Monday November 8 is business as usual, with new Two and a Half Men continuing at 7.30pm, a repeat at 8pm, new Mentalist at 8.30pm and new CSI: Miami at 9.30pm.

Tuesday November 9 is one of those nights that Nine will be promoting as a special event. The National IQ Test is on. Hosted by Eddy (Everywhere) MacGuire, and the very beautiful Livinia Nixon, the show will test IQ’s of people from different backgrounds, professions and residence. Home viewers will be able to participate with forms printed in the news papers.

On Wednesday November 10, there will be two new episodes of Big Bang Theory from 8.30pm, to make up for the week off on November 3rd due to the cricket. The Block 2010 continues at 7.30, RPA a t9.30 and Embarrassing Bodies at 10.30pm.

Thursday and Friday are the same as usual.

On Saturday November 13, in Sydney and Brisbane, the Final of the Four Nations Rugby League Series will air LIVE at 7.30pm AEDT (6.30 Brisbane*). That means Hey Hey will be on at 9.30 in Sydney, 8.30 in Brisbane*. Other states will see the Four Nations after Hey Hey at around 9.30pm, with Hey Hey remaining at its usual time of 7.30pm.

After this week, there is only two weeks of ratings season to go.

*Brisbane times assuming Rugby will be shown live, and to be confirmed. If live, Funniest Home Videos in Brisbane would be seen at 5pm instead of 6.30pm. It remains at 6.30pm everywhere else.

Undercovers – US Wed Sept 22. Another one part of Nine’s 2010 shows but not known if it will air in 2010 or not. Like many of these Nine acquisitions, whether they are rushed to air or not will depend on how they perform in the US. THIS HAS BEEN AXED – so if Nine keep the rights, expect it on GO or GEM.

V – US Jan 2011. GO plan to fast track – so possibly on air soon after the US date.

Note: I have not yet included new shows where the Australian network the show is likely to air on is not yet known. These I will add as I find out, and hopefully keep up to date.

Some of these titles include: Lone Star, Running Wild, The Cape, Detroit 1-8-7, Better With You, The Defenders, Outsourced (possibly one for Seven), School Pride, Outlaw, and No Ordinary Family.

If you there is something left out that you know about, or have questions about any of the content, please let us know.

Fast tracking score sheet (0-7 days after US air date):

Australian ratings for 2010 ends November 27. Pretty well everything new, fast tracked or semi fast tracked after that date on the main channels will either go into repeats or disappear until 2011. Therefore, all networks revert to having 0 fast track points after that date with the exception of Survivor and Amazing Race, possibly the Event will continue on Seven due to low ratings.

Ten – 0. Comm Games sees Ten lose their fast track points.
GO! – 2. Hellcats and The Vampire Diaries
Seven - 2. The Event and The Amazing Race S17

Semi-fast tracked (between 7 and 30 days after US air date):

Nine 5 – Survivor Nicaragua, CSI, CSI: Miami, Two and a Half Men and Big Bang Theory. Note Mentalist now outside what I would consider fast tracked. Also Fringe on GO outside of what I consider fast tracked.
Ten 4 – The Good Wife, Glee, House, NCIS – all starting or back in the week after the Comm Games, from Sunday Oct 17. Note – I won’t count new Simpsons, as it looks like the new ep on Friday Oct 15 is a one off, and not regular programming.
Seven 1 – 30 Rock. Criminal Minds misses out as it is more than 30 days after US air date. Bones now gone into repeats from Nov 14 – so no more points there.

Here I’ll define Fast Tracking as airing within 7 days of US date. I’ll have a second category for semi-fast tracked if shows air between 7 days and 1 month of the US air date. Anything beyond a month I would consider not to be fast tracked. The networks may see it differently, but to me, the less than seven days rules is most appropriate as it means we see an episode of a show before the US sees the next one. Whereas, after 7 days, we end up episodes behind, which means it is easy to see spoilers across the internet.

Updated as at Nov 9.

9:00pm – Tuesday, October 5 on Channel Nine
