Talkin’ ’bout Your Generation

Tuesday June 23 7.30pm

This week’s inter-generational guests:

Greedy Smith (Musician)
Nick-named for scoffing buckets of fried chicken before a live gig, lovable musician Greedy is best known as a vocalist, keyboardist and songwriter with Australian pop/R&B band Mental As Anything. ‘The Mentals’ are currently celebrating three decades of hits with their 30 year anniversary CD Essential as Anything. Greedy’s favourite TV shows were The Samurai, Phantom Agents, The Addams Family, Video Village, The Mavis Brampton Show and Get Smart, and he was obsessed by Marianne Faithfull and Count Dracula!

Sophie Lee (Actor/Author)
Able to reduce (mostly male) crowds to jelly with a single blink, Newcastle-born actor, author and columnist Sophie Lee is best known for her roles in iconic Aussie films “Muriel’s Wedding” (1994) and “The Castle” (1997). Sophie published her debut novel Alice in La La Land in 2008 and writes a fortnightly column in the Sunday News Ltd. Magazine. Growing up Sophie embraced grunge and hip hop, loved eating home-made bread, reading and The Smiths, NWA and David Bowie. She didn’t have a TV and now regrets wearing cycle shorts, crushed velvet, chunky medallions and fluorescent cat suits!

Matt Lee (Choreographer/SYTYCD Judge)
Dance choreographer extraordinaire Matt may be best known as a judge on So You Think You Can Dance, but his fancy footwork has enhanced plenty more. Matt has created funky moves for major pop acts such as sister2sister, 5ive and Human Nature. He’s appeared in the smash-hit “Bootmen” (2000) alongside fellow guest Sophie Lee (no relation!) and is currently working on George Miller’s animated sequel “Happy Feet 2” being shot in Sydney.

Tuesday June 16 7.30pm

On this week’s Talkin’ ’bout your Generation:

Baby Boomer – Benita Collings (Former Play School Host/Actress)

Generations X and Y will have looked through the Play School windows with Benita, Australia’s most-loved and longest running host of the iconic children’s program. Growing up, Benita loved the Bodgies and Widgees and wanted to wear all black, didn’t have TV but loved Biggles, Superman and The Argonauts on radio. Her first kiss was with Reg Livermore in her mum’s laundry and she wondered why he didn’t kiss her back!

Gen X – Kram (Musician)

Born Mark Maher (Kram is Mark spelled backwards), Kram is best known as a rockin’ solo artist and Oz #1 punk trio Spiderbait’s drummer/vocalist. A flannie-shirt embracing Kram loved Space Invaders, AC/DC, Adam & the Ants and Countdown, Dr Who, The Goodies and Kenny Everett growing up as well as riding his BMX. He thinks Gen X are “cynical and grotty” and his first celebrity crush was on ONJ. His area of expertise is sports and if he could live in any other generation it would be 1920s Paris. Kram is embarking on a solo shows supporting US rockers Eagles of Death Metal on their Oz tour.

Gen Y – Alyssa Sutherland (International model/actress)

Best known as an international covergirl, high-fashion catwalk model and aspiring actress, Brisbane born Alyssa is the face of Flake chocolate and Calvin Klein Performance wear. She has starred in a Lenny Kravitz music video, the movies Day of Fire and The Devil Wears Prada. She is about to be seen in horror flick Don’t Look Up opposite ET star Henry Thomas. Currently based in New York, she is concentrating on a film and tv career. Cate Blanchett is her idol.

Tuesday June 9 7.30pm

On this week’s Talkin’ ’bout your Generation:

Baby Boomer – Marcia Hines
We know her as a legend of the Australian music industry and the judge who encourages Australian Idol contestants, but can this baby boomer take it to the boys in the End Game?

Gen X – Matt Welsh
Matt Welsh is best known as World and Olympic champion butterfly and backstroker and one-time world number one, but will Gen X GENeral Charlie Pickering add to their points by guessing his feeble attempt at a Harry Potter impersonation?

Gen Y – Comedian Dave Thornton

Stand-up Gen Y comedian Dave Thornton has performed in numerous comedy venues, at corporate events and on Rove, as well as acting in an ongoing role on the ABC’s Bed of Roses, but can he bust a move and win the points for his team in All the Right Moves?
