From next week, Ten will break their 90 minute news bulletins into two: One hour Ten News at Five from 5pm and a half hour Ten News at Six from 6pm.

[Correction] Both Ten News at Five one hour bulletin and Ten News at Six half hour bulletins will be locally produced for the five metro markets.

Kim and Khloe Kardashian spoke first to Network TEN’s Entertainment Reporter Angela Bishop yesterday afternoon in an interview that was seen on TEN’s News at Five.

In her first TV interview since the divorce announcement, Kim told Angela that she’s in Australia to dive into work and take her mind off things. She broke her silence about the split with Kris Humphries, telling Angela that she married for love not for a TV show and that she’s a hopeless romantic.

Angela asks Kim if she’s spoken to her husband Kris since the news broke, about what Kim will do with her million dollar wedding ring, and Kim talks about donations of wedding gifts to charity.

Network TEN is pleased to announce the team fronting its extended weekend News at Five bulletin will be led by Natarsha Belling and Matt Doran.

Already the face of TEN’s weekend news and one of Australian TV’s most recognised and popular news presenters, Natarsha Belling has more than a decade of experience reporting and breaking some of the nation’s major news.

Colleague Matt Doran has reported on this year’s biggest stories, from Japan’s tsunami to New Zealand’s earthquake, quickly developing a reputation as one of Australia’s best new talents.

Natarsha Belling says: “For many years TEN has led the way in providing our viewers with a fantastic news service at Five and now we will deliver that same great product seven days a week.”

“As always our news service will be a point of difference, with a smart and informative approach to the issues that matter most. Our team is passionate about striving to deliver the best possible product, so our loyal viewers stay informed about the latest news, sport and weather from their own backyard and across the country.”

Joining them on the desk is accomplished meteorologist and journalist Magdalena Roze, a fresh addition to the TEN news team who comes with a wealth of experience from her roles at The Weather Channel, National Geographic, and from her regular guest slots on breakfast radio programs across Australia including 4BC, 2GB and 6PR.

“I’m thrilled to join the TEN News family as part of a dynamic weekend News team. The weather is something that impacts every single person, every day, whether it’s family bbqs, weekend sport or farming. It’s a privilege to share my passion for weather with Australians and I’m committed to keeping Australians informed about the weather that affects them.”

Completing the team and delivering all the latest sporting news is TEN’s Rob Canning. Already an invaluable asset in TEN’s news-room, Rob is well known to viewers nationally for his contribution to TEN News and as one of the key journalists and presenters on Sports Tonight.

TEN’s 90 minute extended bulletin brings the weekend in line with the weeknight News at Five bulletin, and marks the Network’s commitment to building a comprehensive news line-up.

The wealth of experience from reporters, crews and journalists in each of the states will be an invaluable resource in delivering content to this program, and with more time for more news, it aims to provide audiences with the most complete wrap up of the weekend’s events.

TEN’s weekend News at Five begins next month.

From time to time, the 4.30 news on Seven and Nine extends to one hour to provide extra coverage of major events.

From Monday December 6, Seven’s 4.30 News will be extended to an hour. Nine have already extended their 4.30 News to an hour on the days that cricket is not played.

For both networks, it means two hours of news and current affairs from 4.30 to 7.00pm – the only interruption being for Hot Seat on Nine or Deal or No Deal on Seven.

Having one hour news from 4.30 also means there is an overlap into the first hour of channel Ten’s Ten News at Five. It also means that the only option is news on the three commercial main channels between 5pm and 5.30pm.

The move from Seven and Nine could be to take some of the shine off Ten’s 5pm news and to see how the extra half hour of news goes.

In 2011, Ten will be launching an extra hour of news to fill the 6pm – 7pm hour going up against Seven and Nine’s 6pm news and current affairs hour. 6pm will be a national bulletin hosted by George Negus, while 6.30pm will be local news with various hosts in different states. Sandra Sully is hosting Sydney’s 6.30pm News. Including The 7pm Project, Ten will have two and a half hours of news and news based programming.

Ten’s News at Five presenter Deborah Knight and her husband Lindsay Dunbar are thrilled to announce that they have become parents for the second time, to a healthy little girl.

She was born at 9pm last night, weighing in at 3.3kgs.

Both mother and baby are doing well and there is no name as yet.

She will be a little sister for Deborah and Lindsay’s 20 month year old son Darcy.

TEN’s News at Five presenter Deborah Knight is used to timing things down to the minute, but now she has her eyes on the clock for another reason.

Over eight months into her second pregnancy Deb will continue to front News at Five until the last race is run at the Commonwealth Games.

She has been committed to TEN news’ coverage of the Games but with her due date now under two weeks away, it’s time to focus on family. Already Mum to 20-month old son Darcy, Deborah is looking forward to meeting her second child.

“I’m really fortunate to be fit and healthy, and to have avoided the dreaded morning sickness and aches and pains of pregnancy. It is getting challenging though for our wardrobe department to find clothes I can still fit into on air. And I’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity and good wishes of our wonderful viewers.”

TEN’s Director of News – Sydney, Ross Dagan said “We’re very grateful that Deb’s been able to stay on air during the Commonwealth Games – luckily Deb’s health and her bub have also been agreeable… but I have to admit we’ve had some towels standing by just in case things start happening.”

Ably stepping into her shoes to present weeknight News at Five with Bill Woods is Sandra Sully, who will also continue to front TEN’s national Late News until later this year. Together they will continue to provide the Sydney market with the most comprehensive mix of local, national and international news which sees it as a daily ratings winner in all key demographics.

Deb will return to TEN’s News at Five late in January, while Sandra Sully moves to the new 6:30pm local bulletin at the same time.

Baby permitting, Deborah’s last bulletin at TEN for this year will be on Friday October 15th.

Brad McEwan joins Deborah Knight and Ron Wilson at the news desk this week as TEN’s new sports presenter.

BRAD McEWAN BIO:

No one can accuse sports presenter Brad McEwan of not being on the ball.

The Bendigo-born presenter for TEN’s flagship sports program Sports Tonight, has been involved in almost every sport, whether participating or covering.

Brad grew up in Lockington, with a population of approximately 300 people, and studied physical education at Ballarat University.

In 1994, Brad commenced a four-year period at Triple M Radio in Melbourne where he worked in the newsroom as a sports reporter and presenter.

In 1998, Brad left the shores of Australia to go and work in Europe where he enjoyed working briefly as a sports presenter for Edinburgh radio station, Scot FM.

His entry into television arrived in 1999 when he commenced work with Network Ten in Melbourne as a sports reporter.

In 2004, Brad moved to Brisbane as TEN’s News at Five sports anchor, producer and writer. During this time he also hosted Queensland’s local AFL show Queensland Rules, and commentated from the boundary for many of the AFL games held in Brisbane.

In late 2006, Network Ten welcomed the new format of Late News with Sports Tonight, which tempted Brad to make the move south to Sydney in 2007.

Hosted by Sandra Sully and Brad McEwan, TEN’s Late News with Sports Tonight combines the latest news with a comprehensive look at the day in sport all in a half hour format from Monday to Thursday.

When not speaking or writing sport, Brad enjoys participating in all types of sports especially swimming. He still makes time for his other interests, which includes listening to music, cooking and collecting antiques.
