Once again, we ask – just how much is too much reality TV?

From April 15, there will be major chunks of our weekly schedule where reality TV will air on Seven, Nine and Ten at the same time.

Even without confirmation of all timeslots (at time of posting), it is clear that reality fans will need at least a twin channel PVR, and the ability to watch a third channel live as well as alot of time on their hands to be able to catch everything on offer from April 15. This does not take into account titles coming to Foxtel, nor US titles in the mix.

At 6.30pm Sunday April 15, Ten will continue with The Biggest Loser. At the same time, Nine will launch new singing reality show The Voice, while Dancing with the Stars is back on Seven for yet another season.

Monday April 16 sees The Biggest Loser continue at 7pm, now up squarely against Nine’s The Block 2012, which is set to air 7pm weeknights. The Biggest Loser and The Block will air at the same time Monday to Thursday.

Interrupting Nine and Ten’s 7pm starting shows, will be Seven’s Australia’s Got Talent from 7.30pm Monday April 16, continuing on Tuesday and Wednesday night that week.

On Wednesday April 18, Nine premieres the second season of Celebrity Apprentice Australia from 8pm.

At time of writing, we do not yet know what other nights The Voice will air on, other than its premiere night, nor if Celebrity Apprentice will air more than once per week.

But even before these times are added to the schedule, there are timeslots where all three commercial networks are airing reality TV. For those who do not like reality TV? Try ABC, SBS or time to give the digitals a look-in during prime time.

Looking at Sunday – Wednesday, here’s the summary of overlapping reality shows across the three commercial channels.

Sunday April 15
6.30-7.30 3 – DWTS / Loser / Voice
7.30-9.00 1 – DWTS

Monday April 16
7.00-7.30 2 – Loser / Block
7.30-8.00 3 – Loser / Block / AGT
8.00-9.00 1 – AGT

Tuesday April 17
7.00-7.30 2 – Loser / Block
7.30-8.00 3 – Loser / Block / AGT
8.00-8.30 1 – AGT

Wednesday April 18
7.00-7.30 2 – Loser / Block
7.30-8.00 3 – Loser / Block / AGT
8.00-8.30 2 – AGT / CelebAp
8.30-9.00 1 – CelebAp

In coming weeks, The Biggest Loser will conclude, and Masterchef will take over its 7pm timeslots, as well as at least an hour on Sunday nights. Additional timeslots for The Voice and Celebrity Apprentice not yet confirmed. Australia’s Got Talent will settle into a regular weekly Tuesday night timeslot, and The Amazing Race Australia will air probably from a date in May.

In a surprise move, Nine have renewed Excess Baggage for a second season.

The weight-loss reality series which had its finale last Thursday (March 29), will air again in 2013 in a new and revised format.

Excess Baggage was rushed to air January 30, 2012, and scheduled against Ten’s The Biggest Loser, now in its seventh season. Nine had high hopes for the show, with major advertising campaigns leading up to its launch.

In its first week on air, ratings quickly dropped off to settle around the 500,000 mark, before Nine were forced to move Excess Baggage to GO! as the 2012 ratings survey got underway, after its second week on air on the main channel.

On GO!, Excess Baggage enjoyed a regular 6.30pm Monday-Thursday timeslot. Despite attracting less than 100,000 viewers per episode, the series played out in its entirety, as originally planned.

The finale on Thursday night attracted an average audience of 95,000 and peaked at 214,000 viewers on GO!

A source claims Nine have learnt from their mistakes with Excess Baggage this year and hope to build on that next year with a new and revamped show – dubbed Excess Baggage 2.0.

A name change could be possible, while the format will be reviewed and improved to keep viewers interested in the second incarnation.

A casting call for potential contestants will go out later in the year.

We already know that Ten have opted to mess with Super Sunday in the last week before Easter non-ratings by moving The Biggest Loser to Sunday nights, and Young Talent Time to Friday nights from next week, but now the network have made changes to the rest of the week as well, including a second episode of Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation to air next week.

But first, a last minute change to Saturday night March 24 at 6.30pm with Jamie Cooks Summer at 6.30pm, instead of the Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation repeat originally planned for all markets outside of Victoria. Before the Game still airs at that time in Victoria. Saturday March 31 at 6.30pm is Jamie’s Fish Suppers outside of Victoria.

The new Super Sunday includes The Biggest Loser at 6.30pm, and the finale of Homeland in a two hour offering at 8.30pm. Monday remains the same as usual, but on Tuesday, the regular new episode of NCIS is replaced by a repeat at 8.30 – Ten probably opting not to play a new episode against the MKR finale.

Wednesday March 28 sees Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation air from 8pm, with The Good Wife following at 9.10pm.

On Thursday March 29, it will be the season finale of Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation from 7.30pm (The Biggest Loser on Thursday will now be the half hour summary episode that was on Friday), followed by The Melbourne International Comedy Gala 2012 at 8.40pm, then A Gifted Man at 10.55.

Friday March 30 has YTT at 7pm, then the movie Aliens Vs Monsters from 8pm, then Twilight movie at 10pm.

Correct as at March 22 and subject to change.

Channel TEN have just announced a new line up for Sunday and Friday nights from next week, as the network brings The Biggest Loser back to Sundays, while moving Young Talent Time to Fridays – the timeslot to let it unwittingly flounder.

This Sundays’ (March 25) line up will now look like:

6.00 The Project
6.30 The Biggest Loser Singles – Elimination
7.30 Modern Family
8.00 New Girl
8.30 Homeland Final

And on Friday, from March 30, we will have YTT from 7pm-8pm. As for Glee, which would be a perfect fit with YTT, the series is on a mid season break in the US, so no new episodes for a while.
