The Middle

Now with Nine programming being dominated by The Voice, The Block and Celebrity Apprentice, there have been changes at GO! to supplement Nine’s programing and perhaps appease anyone who will have Big Bang withdrawals in the coming week.

GO! has scheduled repeats of The Big Bang Theory at 7pm Monday-Thursday, as well as episodes on Sunday and Thursday nights.

The first new show on GO! since … well, a long time. Suburgatory premieres on GO! 8.30pm Sunday February 5, surrounded by .. wait for it … three episodes of The Big Bang Theory.

But wait… there’s more … new episodes of The Middle also will air on GO! – the same night at 7pm, following a repeat at 6.30pm.

Sunday Feb 5 on GO! looks like this:

5.30 Total Wipeout UK rpt
6.30 The Middle – rpt
7.00 The Middle – NEW
7.30 The Big Bang Theory – rpt
8.00 The Big Bang Theory – rpt
8.30 Suburgatory – premiere. Pilot.

Manicured lawns, cookie-cutter homes, big lips, little nose jobs and synchronized sprinkler systems. Welcome to the suburbs, heaven for many. But for one teenage transplant from New York City, the suburbs represent her unique version of hell. With her motorcycle boots and oversized backpack, 16-year-old Tessa is perfectly at ease navigating the urban jungle she grew up in. So when her dad, George, a handsome architect in his late 30s, relocates her to greener pastures, Tessa goes into culture shock. Forget purgatory — this is suburgatory.

Starring: Jeremy Sisto, Jane Levy, Carly Chaikin

9.00 The Big Bang Theory – rpt
9.30 Movie: Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde.
11.30 Gossip Girl – new (for GO! – note new episodes airing on FOX8)

Onto weeknights on GO! and The Big Bang Theory will now air at 7pm Monday – Thursday.

Monday Feb 6 at 7.30pm is a repeat of Top Gear, followed by the movie Good Luck Chuck at 9pm.

Tuesday Feb 7 is the usual movie double on GO! with Ghostbusters II at 7.30pm followed by Catwoman at 9.50pm.

Wednesday Feb 8 is also a movie double. Speed Racer from 2008 at 7.30, then Stealth at 10.10.

On Thursday night, Feb 9, The Suburgatory Pilot gets a replay at 7.30pm, followed by two episodes of Two and a Half Men, then Big Bang at 9pm. The movie Welcome to the Jungle follows at 9.30pm.

Interestingly, with ELEVEN only recently airing Naked Gun 33 and a Third, Naked Gun 2 1/2 airs on GO! at 9.30pm Saturday Feb 11.

In the last week of summer non-ratings for 2011/2012, GO! is still the usual mix of sitcom repeats and movies, with the only stand out being the premiere of Suburgatory, a series currently doing well in the US – which prompts the question – given GO!’s usual treatment of new shows, will Suburgatory survive on GO!? Will it disappear after a few weeks if the ratings are substantially below that of the usual repeats and movies?

From the feedback overseas for Suburgatory, it probably could have been worthy of a chance on Nine.

Question is, can GO! survive in ratings with the same repeats – over and over – and over and over – into 2012? The GO! program guide for the following week – week 7 (Feb 12-18) will be very interesting.

Time will tell.

Programming information correct as at January 28, 2012 – and subject to change – which it almost certainly will – as is typical of GO!

Not promising to keep this post up to date with the number of changes GO! make to programming! Feel free to email me at andrewb@throng.com.au with any updates or feedback.

With the Third test from the WACA most likely to be over some time on Sunday (Jan 15), Nine will return to regular programming during the day, and into prime time on the eastern states.

This post is the update of Nine programming for the week, without any cricket, thereby showing what will air with the Third Test finished.
