The Short Way Round

Karl Pilkington, who stars in An Idiot Abroad, is to star in a new comedy show which will feature him on a road trip driving a moped, with dwarf Warwick Davis riding in a basket.

The UK’s Sun TV Biz reports that the new show was the brainchild of comedian Ricky Gervais, and has the title of, The Short Way Round.

The show is a spoof of Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman’s Long Way Round world trip on motorbikes.

It will see Karl joined by Warwick, the star of Ricky’s forthcoming sitcom, Life’s Too Short, and of it, Ricky said, “I send Karl around the world on a bike with Warwick in the front basket. It’s not Shakespeare, but it’s funny, right?”
A source said to be close to Gervais told the paper, “Ricky loves An Idiot Abroad but he wants to tweak it a bit, so has come up with a completely different show.

“It’s a buddy thing where lanky Karl and tiny Warwick ride off together and get into all sorts of scrapes.

“Karl secretly loves travelling at Ricky’s expense, even if he is the butt of most of the jokes. It’s not exactly a hard life, is it?”

The original series of An Idiot Abroad airs on Wednesdays at 9.30pm, series two is already airing abroad and Ten has the rights.
