The full list of 2011 Reality Television Stars is now out- but there are a few notable exceptions. Some of those who didn’t make the list do deserve a mention, and here are those mentions right now!

EMMA DUNCAN (The Biggest Loser)

Second female winner of The Biggest Loser, which is saying something after being allowed back into the competition soon after being eliminated. She came from the very strong Duncan Family, who were trained by newcomer Tiffiny Hall. Her magnificent feat definitely needs some recognition.

SARAH MOON (The Biggest Loser)

Another Biggest Loser finalist, and this fiesty nutter kept giving us excuse after excuse to watch the show! Her continued outbursts of rage aimed at the Commando’s training regime, as regrettable to say, brought tears of laughter to our eyes while at the same time made us feel for her and what she must have been going through. She never gave up though, earning a cool fourth place in the competition.

JOE CHALLENOR (The Biggest Loser)

The villain of the season, Joe was most famous for putting his nephew Nathaniel up for elimination in his place and depriving his brother Damien of a much needed immunity opportunity. He was able to stun viewers though, with his stunning transformation and hard work.

JOSH DENSTEN & JENNA WHITEHEAD (The Block)

This bickering couple were probably the most outspoken couple on this year’s season. Having the only double fronted home, it seemed the unique position they were in lended them a hand as the couple went on to controversially win a good handful of challenges and money! Their most infamous moments included the finale proposal by Josh and Josh’s clashes with site manager Keith.

KATRINA CHAMBERS & AMIE GODDE (The Block)

These pair of sisters were something else on The Block. The third most successful couple on this years season, there was a lot these girls did for the audience- most of it revovled around laughter. Whether it was admitting themselves into self-created Women’s Clubs or singing along to Dynamite, these girls were just so entertaining. When they were down, the nation was down in the dumps with them.

TANIA & ROD WALSH (The Block)

Tania & Rod were the strong couple of The Block this year- both professionally and mentally. Having to deal with a recent death in the family, it wasn’t easy for these two to keep a brave face and renovate to their professional standards at the same time, but somehow they managed it and the nation was happy for it.

MO EL-LEISSY & MOS HAROUN (The Amazing Race Australia)

Mo & Mos were this year’s stereotype breaker. As two Muslims, it was hard to find them in a situation that didn’t challenge your beliefs on the religion. These fun loving, dopey characters proved to be continuous comic relief from the serious challenges and it was equally as sad to see them leave the contest half way through.

ANNE-MARIE BROWN & TRACY READ (The Amazing Race Australia)

The Big W ladies from WA were the first notable characters of the game in my opinion and had they stayed in the game for just a little while longer they may have made the list, but like Mo & Mos, their thirst for fun never parched and they continued to deliver strong comedic moments of television right up to their elimination early on.

DAVE & KELLY MILLER (The Amazing Race Australia)

These bikies were never short of laughs either, but at the same time, they were some of the biggest competitors the game had. When Dave wasn’t going off at an ice- Hockey Player who blocked all his shots, they were out to seek revenge from those who underestimated these two bikies!

JOEY TOUTOUNJI (The Amazing Race Australia)

Less her partner, Richard, Joey was the true villain of the series. Having betrayed former allies Mel & Alana, her ‘Focus, Believe, Achieve’ quote was one of the most annoying cliches of 2011. Good riddance to this one I say.

TIMOMATIC (Australia’s Got Talent)

Timomatic came 21st on my list in the end due to his incredible talent and the chills he sent up my spine when I saw him perform. He has since gone on to perform nationwide and is recieving a lot more notabilty after his stint on the show.

COSENTINO (Australia’s Got Talent)

For his death-defying stunts and his calm and collected nature. YouTube him. ‘Nuff said.

BENCHMARK (Australia’s Got Talent)

Another close call, but these group of oldies had it all- voice, charisma and inspiration. Despite their hardship, these guys taught Australia that anything is possible. It’s a shame they didn’t win the show in my opinion.

BEN PRICE (Australia’s Got Talent)

His funny impersonations will forever be stuck in my head, the head of Dannii and no doubt your head. If only I heard him on radio a little bit more, I may have moved him up and into the list of faves.

ROBERT DAVIDOV (Top Design)

Special mention for winning Top Design. Probably the show’s only winner.

GRETA YAXLEY (Junior MasterChef)

Special mention for winning Junior MasterChef Australia.

SAMMY & BELLA JAKUBIAK (My Kitchen Rules)

Special mention for winning My Kitchen Rules.

TROY THOMPSON & MACKENZIE GOGO-SMITS (Beauty & The Geek Australia)

Special mention for their engagement. Are they married yet?

SARAH LAWTHER & LACHLAN COSGROVE (Beauty & The Geek Australia)

Special mention for winning Beauty & The Geek Australia)

Special mentions also go out to those who are still notable for their work on reality television this year but their disclusion from my list was not terribly regrettable:

CHRISTINA PARIE (X Factor), JOHNNY RUFFO (X Factor), PAMELA COOKE (X Factor) ANDREW WISHART (X Factor), DECLAN SYKES (X Factor), CHRISTIE BLIZZARD (Renovators), NATALIE BROADHEAD (Renovators), AUGUST SMITS (Renovators), DANI VENN (MasterChef Australia), JOHN HUGHES (MasterChef Australia), ELLIE PAXTON-HALL (MasterChef Australia), TEAM ROCKET (Australia’s Got Talent), NATHANIEL CHALLENOR (Biggest Loser), MATT NUNN & TOM WARRINER (Amazin Race Australia), FARMER KEV (Farmer Wants A Wife) & HALEY BRACKEN (Dancing with the Stars)

Can’t list everyone, but there’s the who’s who of reality television 2011. All that there is to do today is to announce the 2011 Personality of the Year. That announcement will be up shortly.

Last night; reality television bowed its head for 2011 with a lovely finale for Beauty & The Geek Australia. In a blog post; I went through the key aspects that went into making the final week of reality for this year a success while also hinting at future prospects for this blog. In the final recapping blog I will be posting for this year, I will detail the year that has been; the highs and the lows. Pretend it is one of those lengthy recaps shows attach to the top of their finales. Then I will preview what is in store for the coming months and into 2012.

The year began on 30 January 2011 with the launch of The Biggest Loser Australia’s sixth season- the first in the ‘families’ format. The season began with four trainers; Shannon Ponton, Michelle Bridges, Steve Willis (formerly ‘The Commando’, now a fully fledged trainer) and new ninja warrior Tiffiny Hall, all heading to the homes of their respective families to eat what they eat, do what they do and most importantly, live how they live.

It was an eye opening experience, and the perfect way to introduce the four families- the Westren family containing Leigh Westren, fiancée Lara Whelan, mother Sharlene and father Craig. We also had the Moon family, containing sisters Sarah, Jodie, Rebecca and Kellie. The Duncan family contained Emma, Jarrod, Sarah-Jayne and Meg and the Challenor family contained Damien, Nathaniel, Joe and Greg.

One by one, these families competed for immunity and power. Joe became a villain after making his nephew Nathaniel enter an elimination when it should have been him and also giving away immunity to someone other than his brother, Damien.

Despite being eliminated, a twist in the show saw Lara, Nathaniel, Rebecca and Emma return to the show. Two of these four were supposed to be eliminated, but after gaining weight at a weigh in, previously safe contestant Joe joined the line up and was eliminated with Lara, meaning three people were allowed back into the competition.

After 13 long weeks, Kellie, Sarah, Leigh and returnee Emma returned for the finale and despite great odds, Emma Duncan was crowned Australia’s second female Biggest Loser, with Leigh coming in second and Kellie and Sarah coming in third and fourth respectively.

In the same era, My Kitchen Rules returned after a highly successful first season. Its second season seemed to tap into the success MasterChef saw in 2010, and won pretty much every night it was on.

Amongst all the teams, we had High Achievers Kelly and Ash Cooke, Newlyweds Anne-Marie Battista and Nick Sharp, urban hippies Mal Gill and Bec Saul and of course, sisters Sammy & Bella Jakubiak.

It was a toughly contested battle, and MKR became something of a phenomenon. In the end, it was sisters Sammy & Bella who took the crown and have been close to Seven’s heart ever since, even making a few appearances on Dancing with the Stars.

Speaking of which, Dancing With The Stars made its 2011 debut with a big cast. Well, it wasn’t so big, but those people in Seven’s controversy department were prepped and at the ready. A change to the judging panel saw Josh Horner take the place of Mark Wilson, someone who seemed all too keen to create a stir.

The dancing line up consisted of newsreader Samantha Armytage, Home & Away’s Dan Ewing, bungled model Lara Bingle and most infamously, socialite Brynne Edelsten.

Brynne was at the centre of two very public controversies that helped lift ratings for the show. The first saw new judge Josh Horner describe her as a ‘bedazzled sack of potatoes’, causing her to cry after only her first dance. The second saw co-host Sonia Kruger comment on her and her husband, Geoffrey Edelsten’s age gap, referring to the latter as the former’s dad.

Despite all this, the country was ‘bedazzled’ by Brynne’s story, and also that of Samantha Armytage who was also given a beating by the judges. Both stayed in the contest for quite a while longer than many would have thought, with Samantha only just missing out on a place in the final.

Another contestant, Haley Bracken, who’s husband Nathan competed on the show only to be eliminated first, delighted the judges and scored herself a few ten’s, regularly winning challenges.

She made it all the way to the finale with singer Damien Leith and chef Manu Feildel.

While her dancing skills were enough to ward off Damien into third place, she was not able to beat Manu, who won the public vote and therefore the very controversial contest for 2011.

Back to TEN, and their reality ratings juggernaut, MasterChef Australia, returned for its third season. Branded as the biggest yet, a massive mystery box in Sydney Harbour was enough to herald in that promise to viewers watching at home.

The new season had a Cerebral Palsy sufferer, a surfer pin up dude, a few at home mother cooks and a fighter pilot.

Ratings for the season opened fairly high and fairly consistent, but the series was never going to reach the success of 2010. By the end of the season, it was also clear that its days of creating a 3 million plus viewership finale were over.

But there was plenty to celebrate in between. To make up for a lack of inspiration found in most of the dishes presented this year, the contestants headed to the likes of Margaret River, Busselton Jetty, a mine, Malaysia, New York and Melbourne for challenges and episodes.

The production team were in overdrive, and the production of the series was insanely great.

Storytelling also played a big part as many events grabbed news headlines. Firstly was that little fling between Ellie and Hayden which resulted in nothing. The second, and probably the biggest controversy to ever hit the MasterChef kitchen came from contestant Mat Beyer, or more frankly, his smart phone.

During one challenge, it was suspected by the judges that Mat had brought in a smart phone that could have been used to find information on recipes. Their suspicions were somewhat confirmed and he was kicked out of the competition.

Other stories also attracted attention. The shock elimination of CP sufferer John Hughes in the top 50 round, the deletion of fighter pilot Paul Lombardi before the top 24 round even started and the shock walking of contestant Adam Bowen all left viewers with something to watch.

Moving into finals week, and Ellie, Dani, Alana, Michael and Kate were left to fight for the title, although Ellie was eliminated just before all this.

It all came down to Michael and Kate in the finale where mother Kate beat out SA Michael, 87 points to 84. It wasn’t a very memorable finale, and Kate hasn’t been heard of since, but it was still another successful slate for TEN.

Reality television was Seven’s forte in 2011 with Australia’s Got Talent also on the rise. All three judges; Kyle Sandilands, Dannii Minogue and Brian McFadden returned and found the likes of The Old Fella, Ben Price, Jack Vidgen and Cosentino and launched them into the spotlight.

Also launched into the spotlight was comedian Jordan Harris where, after a successful first round of auditions which was based on jokes ‘borrowed’ from other joke makers, he managed to alienate his audience in the semi finals with a less than impressive and rather cringeworthy performance of his own.

They also ‘re-found’ Timomatic who, after modest success on the second season of So You Think You Can Dance Australia in 2009, returned to this competition to place third.

In the end, performer Cosentino placed second to singing schoolboy Jack Vidgen, who was famous in his own right for those veneers.

Seven also launched The Amazing Race Australia, which brought out probably the most diverse range of characters seen on reality television this year. We had Muslims Mo & Mos, Big W employees Anne Marie and Tracy; reunited sisters Alana and Mel and dopey farmers Tom & Matt.

The first season saw these guys race to places like Indonesia, South Africa, Czech Republic, Poland, Singapore and Hong Kong, and face challenges ranging from playing a famous Chinese casino game, to stacking crates of beer to skydiving!

In the end, it was surfer duo Nathan & Tyler, the former of which dated Erin McNaught, won the show over Perth models Renae & Sam. Surprisingly, it all came down to a race around Perth.

But I’m sure you’re all sick of hearing about Seven and TEN for now; so lets visit some of Nine’s reality offerings.

Well, most famously, we had The Block. Now in it’s forth season, the producers mixed things up a bit and introduced a new stripped 7PM format. The show also moved out of apartment renovating with this year’s contestants asked to renovate four houses on a block!

Lastly, there were eight teams, not four. Four of those teams however were eliminated in the first week, but they all made appearances in challenges throughout the series.

The four main couples were Josh & Jenna, a bickering boyfriend/girlfriend duo who were in charge of the only double fronted house on the street; Polly & Waz, a very quirky, young and savvy couple who had nil background in renovating; Katrina & Amie, two sisters with emotions made of concrete and a very stylish yet obscure design technique, and seasoned renovators Tania & Rod.

They were all a bunch of laughs with only a few moments of sadness. There was a time when Tania & Rod were called off the block to attend a family funeral, and there was also a time when Katrina’s Crohn’s disease overtook her emotions a bit. But in the end, these couples, with the help of host Scott Cam, new host Shelley Craft, sometimes embattled onsite manager Keith and a whole set of reward winning challenges, were able to manage four great houses for auction.

The only disappointing thing about this season, was most probably the only thing that the producers didn’t want to end in disappointment- the finale.

After last year’s ‘shock’ announcement that Chez & Brenton’s apartment was to be passed in, it was a surprise to everyone watching when three of the four houses were passed in. It was even more of a shock that the winning house, selling for $15,000 profit, belonged to novice’s Polly & Waz. And it was an EVEN BIGGER shock to Jenna, whose night was turned upside down by a proposal by Josh. She said yes!

Nine also had Top Design, a brand new show by Jamie Durie, once Nine’s love child and host of The Block. The series failed to fire and was at one point shown first run on GEM ahead of a Nine screening.

Robert Davidov won the show, beating out Lisa and Steve at the finale, which was quite a high key affair for such a low key performer. I guess for me personally, the thing I will remember about this show was minutes after blogging the finale of the show on a Friday, news that Big Brother Australia was to return on Nine surfaced.

Nine also had two seasons of The Farmer Wants A Wife, however I only watched the second, which was the series’ seventh overall.

In this season, containing farmers Wil, Trent, Frank, John, Kev and Tim, a seventh mystery girl was added to the picked girls the farmers chose as potential wives. This seventh girl was chosen by the families. The farmers had to decide whether or not to take her back to the farm with him and two others.

Some jumped at the opportunity, some did not.

The show saw numerous exits; most notably, Farmer John’s favourite Belinda. The finale also saw a shocking outcome for Kev, who after two eliminations, his chosen girl got cold feet and left, leaving him with no one to pursue. Potential season eight candidate, anyone?

The season end showcasing the wedding of former contestants Nathan and Amanda.

To end the year, Nine debuted the oftentimes controversial Celebrity Apprentice to a stripped 7PM format. The series contained celebrities including Jesinta Campbell, Deni Hines, Jason Coleman, Julia Morris, Pauline Hanson and Shane Crawford.

Deni became an instant villain; constantly attacking Polly for her lack of celebrity, and generally acting like a spoilt brat and damaged diva. She was soon eliminated.

Pauline Hanson would most likely be considered as the most unlikely hero of the series after showing real integrity and a real maturity towards challenges. She was constantly saved from elimination due to her work ethic and public support backing her, especially after washing some guy’s car in underwear, was shiny.

Another surprise characterisation came from Jason Coleman, who while showed great leadership and well-spokenedness, constantly lost challenges and began to be deemed a villain in the eyes of the contestants who saw his constant need to be in control and his somewhat demeaning mannerisms to be quite rude and somewhat crippling to the receiving contestant’s place in the competition

In the final week, eliminated contestants Polly, Didier, Deni and Max returned to help out finalists Jason, Julia, Shane and Jesinta in what was an explosive and controversial week. Mad Max Markson, who was known for his immaturity, outspokenness and time wasting abilities, somewhat ironically eliminated after competing in a challenge sober of these qualities, returned to give Julia and Jason one more test of patience and control.

But it was Deni Hines who stole the show, seemingly playing up for the cameras and using the villain persona she received in her first stint on the show, and arguing with people, mostly Jesinta, at any opportunity she got.

She later admitted that she did it for fun, and even commended enemy Jesinta on her smarts. It wasn’t enough to let Jesinta and Shane win, and in the end, it all came down to Julia and Jason. Julia Morris won the show, but decided to split the money with Jason Coleman and his charity; a rare show of such true honour and dignity. Julia will be one contestant who’s ‘brand’ isn’t damaged by this show.

TEN also experimented with The Renovators; but it turned into an overall flop, despite showing signs of life throughout its run, and even giving TEN a second place position on finale night. The renovation show saw host Brendan Moar and judges Peter Ho, Barry Du Bois and Robyn Holt guide 20 renovators through challenges, which included a 24-hour makeover of a house on wheels, carted into the show’s massive warehouse studio, and a week trip up to Brisbane to help flood victims, and eliminations which I personally noted for their initial lack of imagination.

Despite the low rating performance of the show, it was generally well received by the public, with many of you suggesting contestants for the Top 20 Reality Contestants of 2011 competition. While it was able to shake comparisons to The Block; its similarity to MasterChef remained and became the show’s only lowlight. Despite all this, I would say that where the Renovators was different was in its increased personal approach to its contestants and its laid back approach to the whole structure of the show.

There were plenty of team changes, but ultimately, Natalie from the sixties suburban (formerly, the shop), August from the shop, Peter from the half done house, Michael from the fibro cottage, Mel from the weatherboard and Luke from the terrace became the show’s finalists for auction night.

While not many houses sold for profit, they did all sell, and it was SA’s Michael Lynch’s fibro cottage that sold for the most and gave the tradie from Laura a win!

Junior MasterChef Australia was generally a miss for TEN, after initially debuting a brand new Top 50 format. Matt Preston took leave for the series, but Matt Moran took his place and Anna Gare returned as a solely Junior MasterChef judge.

The show continued the celebrated production of the main show, and the trips to Disneyland and the inspiring dish after inspiring dish of tasty food was a massive bonus; possibly making it a better season than the first, but the viewers didn’t come, and this is one show that will most probably be forgotten.

For those of you who don’t forget it, Greta Yaxley won the show, with 92 points over Jack’s 84 (if I recall).

Back to Seven and it was another year for The X Factor and it was going to be big. Natalie Imbruglia and Kyle Sandilands didn’t return, but they were replaced by the gorgeous and talented Natalie Bassingthwaighte and singing superstar Mel B. The rest returned.

This year, it was the likes of Emmanuel Kelly; a talented Iraqi orphan and Luke O’Dell, an untalented Adam Lambert wannabe who stole the show; but none of which made it to the finals.

Out of the twelve who did, Mel B’s lot soon disappeared. Tyla Bertolli and Jacqui Newland were both eliminated early on and despite a promising first half for Christina Parie, she wasn’t able to make it into the top 5.

Conversely, Guy Sebastian kept all of his three acts until the final five, with Declan Sykes leaving in fifth place. His other two acts, Johnny Ruffo and Reece Mastin, both became finalists along with Natalie Bassingthwaighte’s Andrew Wishart.

After winning last year with Altiyan Childs, Ronan Keating did not renew his success this year, with his final act Three Wishez only making it to the final four.

In the end, SA’s Reece Mastin beat out Andrew Wishart and Johnny Ruffo (runner up and third place respectively) to become the winner of the show’s third season.

Seven also had The One; a show that briefly saw the light of day in 2008 and pits psychics against each other to find out who is the most gifted.
Judges were Richard Saunders, a sceptic, and Stacey Demarco, a psychic, whose bickering became a somewhat entertainment staple for the show.

Challenges these contestants faced included anything from in studio readings, finding of objects as small as gold to as big as helicopters using only their abilities; and ended in a now controversial challenge which saw them try to locate the body of missing, presumed dead woman, Kerry Whelan.

Greg Riley, empath Heidi Hanley and detective Debbie Malone were awarded finalist positions, and you at home got to determine the winner. Like the psychics themselves, you all chose Greg to be The One- Australia’s Most Gifted Psychic.

The last show of course, was Beauty & The Geek Australia which returned with Bernard Curry as host for its third season. The twist this year was a simple one; a male beauty paired with a female geek in the form of Troy and Helen.

Other than this, the show didn’t deviate away from its usual format of humorous storytelling, classy cutaway quotes, wonderful production and just plain stupidity. There was a time when the human twists, Helen & Troy, were eliminated quite early, but they were able to return via a twist. One episode later and they were eliminated again.

The season saw geek Lachlan and beauty Jordan, who both went on to be apart of the final two teams with their respective partners, hook up, break up and make up throughout the course of the season. The main problem came when Lachlan got his partner Sarah’s name tattooed on his arse. Pardon my French.

During makeovers, which were a dazzling array of spectacles, Dolly announced her decision to quit on medical grounds, leaving previously eliminated contestant Jacelle to fill her void with Gilbert.

In the finale, Mackenzie and Jimmy were eliminated after an exam challenge; Gilbert and Jacelle were eliminated after a formal challenge and Julian and Jordan were eliminated after a quiz, leaving Lachlan and Sarah as this year’s winners.

Lovebirds Mackenzie and Troy also announced their engagement throughout the final.

And that my friends, was the year in reality. Quite a hefty one wasn’t it. But enough about 2011; that was so last year (well, technically it was this year, but you get my drift)- let’s talk 2012.

The only show from the above list confirmed not to be returning is Top Design, but grave fears are being held for The Renovators, which despite being announced by TEN as a returning show, has since fallen victim to second thoughts. The only other show that will probably not return is Junior MasterChef Australia- but it would be for the best. Oh, and The One.

The Biggest Loser Australia will return and revert back to a ‘singles’ format. Dancing with the Stars will return with a new host after Sonia Kruger’s defection to Nine; possibly Nat Bass. My Kitchen Rules returns with a Kiwi pair. MasterChef returns with Matt Preston.

The Farmer Wants A Wife, Celebrity Apprentice Australia, The Block, The Amazing Race Australia, Australia’s Got Talent, The X Factor and Beauty & The Geek Australia will all return, or are all set to return based on viewer satisfaction and ratings.

To join them are a sleuth of new Nine shows. We have The Voice, which features blind auditions and battle rounds. Judges will be Joel Madden, Delta Goodrem, Seal and Keith Urban.

Big Brother returns to our screens on Nine with new host Sonia Kruger and a new ‘Secrets’ format where every housemate has a secret. Location, spin off shows and narrator are yet to be confirmed.

Excess Baggage will be a new celebrity weight loss show where eight overweight celebs pair up with ordinary contestants to lose the flab. Celebrities include Darryn Lyons who has previously competed on Celebrity Big Brother UK, causing a stir after revealing his ‘six pack on top of a beer gut’ formed stomach which evolved due to ‘contouring’. Having watched this season myself, I will warn you now; just in case he takes his top off, don’t eat dinner through this program! Kate Cebrano hosts.

And that is just a taste of what 2012 holds in terms of reality television! It’s the substance which makes up these shows in between which will really determine the flavour. And we won’t know what any of this ‘substance’ is until these seasons debut.

Over the next few months, Throng will still be delivering important reality news. Of course we have the Top 20 Reality Television Contestants of 2011 competition which will run from the 16th of December right through until New Years Eve.

I will then be taking a break for the first half of January before returning with some opinion pieces to get you in the spirit of the 2012 reality ratings season. This will also be my last post before December 16 less any important announcements. I’m sure the other lovely writers here on Throng will be keeping you up to date anyway. There’s always an excuse to log onto Throng.

Then, in 2012 I can officially announce, Throng will be returning its episode-by-episode detailed recaps of EVERY episode of EVERY season of reality in 2012 (minus any last minute disruptions or planned events), so keep an eye out!

That’s all from me; a few last minute thank you’s before I sign off- firstly to AndrewB and Regan for letting me post my thoughts on reality onto this site in the first place. You have given me so much support and I have loved every minute of it.

Johnson, as many of you would know, has helped in nearly every single episode of MasterChef, Junior MasterChef and The X Factor; and has even helped out in other random episodes. I truly thank you for that, Johnson, as you have enriched my knowledge and therefore my love of this genre and this job.

And Ryno; who offered his complete support and helping hand throughout September, and while it didn’t all go to plan, I think your offer to help was the most exciting thing about this year.

And to the rest of the readers, who have commented kindly or constructively, or have just read my work, I am motivated by your continued support and I am proud to be able to do this for such a loving and intellectual community.

I’ll see you all soon; for now, it’s time to take a break.

(Courtney Rose Lewdon chooses not to try and decipher these increasingly irrelevant post pictures! :) )

Sorry guys for getting this out so late; but I’ve been busy all day. But to reality and what a big week it has been.

The Renovators laid concrete, sorted lights and tiled to save their arses from elimination and for prizes. The Shop won yet another working bee for their nearly completed house where on the other hand, the sky blue team let slip they were going to buy some land at the back of their property. As we are more than half way into the season, the judges took this as laziness and sent the team to elimination (really, it was because they are the largest team; it was really unfair).

From there, Sam became the first eliminated sky blue team member, dropping the count to three.

The sky blue team found themselves in elimination again on Thursday, but against the khaki team; they had nothing to worry about. In the end, SA nurse Suzanne Ashby was sent packing as the fourth member of the khaki team (and technical third member of the green team) to do so.

To Nine, and the farmers said goodbye to their first girl! As one of farmer John’s girls, Belinda, quit last week, he was exempt from this powerful decision.

In the end, Frank chooses Jessica, Tim chooses Jaclyn, Kev chooses Meg, Will chooses a bitter Kathy and Trent chooses Lucy; all of whom are asked to leave the farm.

Also on Nine, Top Design finished up with a whimper, but a pretty specky finale stage. Robert won the show after designing an entire house, beating out Steve and Lisa, the latter of which placed third. Chances are, you won’t be seeing that show again!

On Seven, and The X Factor finished up with auditions which included more stand out performances including Tara whateverhernameis who can sing like a gem (although, after a quick check on Wikipedia, gem’s can’t actually sing…Awkward for Courtney!).

Then it was on to Boot Camp and chances are, if you favour one of the contestants that Seven’s promo department favour, your favourite is still in the game!

The week was topped off with the huge news that Nine will relaunch Big Brother next year; something many of you will either really, really love, or really, really hate! To all those haters, I can only say ‘It’s time to go!’

So, the relaunch isn’t until next year sometime and right now, I am just interested in next week’s reality! Let’s get into it.

As we’ve already seen, The Renovators will this week tackle troubles people involved in the Queensland floods still face daily, and after some tears already (some from rock hard Baz), this week is turning out to be a doozie. To top it off, one eliminated contestant will be offered a chance to return, and that could be Kelly; so mothers, lock up your…dust?

Anyway, The X Factor has one more night of Boot Camp as I understand it before we head into house calls. These continue for three nights until Thursday before we head into live shows.

I have no idea what Farmer has in store for us, but we’ll find out.

So guy’s, this will be my last Reality Highlight’s segment for 2 weeks, so I want to use this time to introduce you all properly to:

Ryno_091

As you may already know, Ryno has been a legend in part that he has volunteered to continue blog posts of Farmer and The X Factor while I am away. He has sent me a few blog posts as practice already and I’m sure you will all be happy!

Ryno will start blogging from the first X Factor live performance show on Monday. My final blog post before leaving will be The Renovators How To episode on Friday.

Blogging of The Renovators and any other upcoming show has not yet been officially designated however, if it is not done by the time I get back, I MAY OR MAY NOT provide just a brief summary, however going on holiday not only means an interruption to my blogging, but also to other, safe to say higher priority things, but I care about you guys and will do the best I can!

For those interested, my blogging will resume on Wednesday 28 September 2011 when I get home from holidays!

I promise to bring you all back a souvenir! What size T-shirt do you take?

This is it; this is the moment we have all been waiting for! This is the finale of Top Design’s first season; and probably only season; and after enormous hype… we can finally lay this crap to rest. For the last time; let’s raise our glasses!

We begin the episode with a look at some of the more inspiring designs of the year and a look at how the contestants cope when they go home.

Tonight; they will have four days to complete the design of one whole house. With that information, Jamie welcomes us to the finale!

As the contestants very cliché-y walk down a suburban road; they talk about how this humble little competition would change their lives.

Jamie welcomes them to the final three and tells them what is at stake for the winner. They have one more hurdle; an entire three bedroom house in four days and with $75,000. They just cannot believe it but Lisa knew the finale would be hard.

The owners of the homes are standing in front of their houses waiting for the contestants to meet them. After Jamie finishes up, they go and do that. Robert has Rocky and Anna with Lisa getting someone named Aldi. Steve has a family and I realise that all three clients are Asian. It is good that they have chosen clients from different backgrounds; one family, one engaged couple and one single man.

The contestants go through a bit of a tour where their clients give them a round down on what they would like. Steve wants to give his family a colour bonanza and finds out they don’t want a dishwasher; so he will turn it into a wine rack!

Lisa walks into Aldi’s home and decides to go for a design with colour and full of light. She also decides to give him a Golf putty area however she decides not to tell Robert or Steve, covering up her design as a barbecue idea.

Robert is touring his client’s house and they get a general design full of different features. This causes Robert to fill up two sketch books quick and he really wants to win this one.

Build Day 1 is upon us and the contestants are driving off to start work. Again, we hear words from them about winning the show.

Jamie is waiting for them at the homes and tells them that while painters have already done their job, they still have a lot to do themselves. He decides that they will need some help and with that; a garage door comes up to reveal the past contestants. We don’t see this until after an ad break, but really; how obvious did they want to make it?

After the break, we get a recap that was probably bigger than most of the episode’s full length.

It seems as if not everyone turned up; but we’ll figure that out later. As winner of last week’s design, Robert chooses first and goes for Leigh and Dee.

Jo & Dan are claimed by Lisa while Chris and Kai are claimed by Rob. They are the only six who come back.

We find out that Steve’s client is ironically colour blind!

After a few introductions and catch ups; they get straight into it. Today’s jobs include consultations with outside providers and general building.

Chris and Kai are staring over the fence to sneak on Lisa, but it looks like a scripted moment to add a bit of fun to the episode which is pretty much just The Block condensed into one hour.

After a while, the contestants go out shopping and Jamie talks about their styling skills being tested. Really, so what was the rest of the season for?

They go to lighting stores, bedding stores and hardware stores while contestants like Leigh and Dee are back at home, complaining about their plot digging job.

We get a few shots of the contestants shopping, but nothing too exciting here. Steve tries to find a centre piece while Robert worries about progress back at the house and of course, there isn’t much progress at all.

After the break, Robert returns home and yes, there hasn’t been much progress and Rob wonders if he has bitten off more than he can chew. He thinks a bomb has hit the house! Meanwhile, Steve is happy with his helper’s job as he compliments the two. From upstairs, they finally find out that Lisa is building a golf course out the back of her house.

Halfway through the build stage, Nick, Amanda and Jamie inspect the homes and start with Robert. Jamie seems a little apprehensive about the amount of curtains.

Nick doesn’t know if Steve is pushing his clients into the right spot while Amanda doesn’t seem to get a straight answer from Lisa when she asks her what is in the house that will make her win.

Lisa breaks down when she realises that she may or may not have what it takes to win.

After the break, it is raining of course (you can’t have a reno show without rain!) and Robert is feeling the pressure. Lisa meanwhile is trying to rethink her design to make sure her home has what it takes to win this game.

Some contestants have gone out to do more shopping with Dee and Kai going to buy some ornaments for their houses. Dee doesn’t like how Kai can buy colourful ornaments but she can’t (due to the different client briefs the contestants have).

The contestants discuss how the others are going and Steve knows Lisa is struggling.

To day 4 of the competition and as the storm clouds rebuild, they get their now arriving furniture into the house. Some contestants get a lot of flat packs which doesn’t make life easier.

A massive storm hits (Summer Bay, eat your heart out!) and the mud is getting everywhere. Steve is a bit annoyed at the mud on his floor and demands that the doors get locked.

Robert is having his own struggles trying to install a wall unit which doesn’t seem to be working out. Robert is now freaking out but Leigh is calm, and comes up with the idea to fix up some holes and stuff.

With two hours to go, Lisa is now in positive spirits as her and her helpers rush around to get things done.

Robert’s curtains arrive with an hour to go and it is only now when contestants realise little details that are showing (poor paint jobs and such).

With 10 minutes left in Top Design, they just get the rest of their houses finished and it is all just a blur. It sounds like Chris mocks an Asian accent for a minute, but I think he was mimicking Amanda.

When time is up, Steve, Robert and Lisa thank their helpers and hey, they are all done!

After the break, judges come to well, judge, and start with Robert’s home. It looks very nice, but I hope it isn’t the winning room.

The judges walk in and are very impressed with Robert’s open plan living area and I just love the look of his leaf fans.

Outside and Jamie loves the architecture. The clients seem very happy as well; saying he stuck with their word and requirements.

To Lisa’s home and it’s a little blander than Robert’s but she has individual elements that work.

The judges love her bedroom and Amanda is over the moon to see Lisa present some wow factor in the form of an oversized bed head.

To the back yard and again, the judges are blown away as are the client.

Last is Steve’s home and I love this best; especially the floating staircase and kitchen.

The judges come and inspect and Jamie proclaims his backyard to be the best out of the three finalists. They love his colours in the home and Jamie thinks he has ‘done it well’.

The clients seem impressed.

After the break, the returning contestants are waiting out front with the other past contestants while the finalists come out and enjoy the party. Inside, the judges are discussing who should win. They discuss what we have already heard and a little bi t more, but overall, it is really just a balanced discussion with positive’s and negative’s for each person.

They also discuss the performances of the three finalists over the entire competition before they finish things up, and go deliver the verdict.

Outside, the contestants eagerly await their fate in front of a crowd of friends, family, contestants and clients who cheer them on.

Jamie says a few words before the judges ask the contestants a few final words.

Then, it is verdict time.

Jamie says a few more things; dragging this out longer.

I’ll just get it over and done with now.

The second runner up for tonight is announced to be Lisa and after a short round of applause FINALLY, it is time to crown either Robert or Steve the winner.

The winner of Top Design is…

ROBERT!

With that; Robert triumphs over colour lover Steve as the country’s one and only Top Designer. Steve does receive an internship with Nick Tobias and Jamie Durie.

The show ends in a sea of fireworks, but I doubt there is anything to celebrate here.

What could have been a simple, well done show, turned out to be a flawed, crumby, lame reality television show that really did not shine at all and it is fair to say; it really deserved to finish as it did.

The contestants, as far as I could tell, were wonderful. But their personalities were unable to shine under what felt and seemed like unrealistic situations; fabricated scenes and horrendous editing.

With such a simple concept, it was obvious that the hour timeslot was going to be way too long week after week. When they extended it to 90 minutes at times; it just felt like a joke.

Tonight’s episode had highlights. I loved the designs overall and the concept of bringing back ex contestants to help. The street was also made up nice for the result segment. I felt the episode again, like last week, was a little rushed and at times, I was a little confused as to which day we were on.

If this series went to air in the early noughties, it would have been a fitting condiment for the Nine schedule but now in 2011 where reality television has to be grand and spiffy just to even have a chance of ratings glory, show’s like this, which seem under planned, uncared for and thrown together, do not shine and will be dumped.

Jamie Durie; your time here on Nine may well be up.

Courtney’s Verdict: 4.0/10

Courtney’s Top Design Season One Overall Verdict: 5.5/10

Three empty houses, three real clients, $50,000 budget…this is the TOP DESIGN GRAND FINALE.

Just three contestants are left standing. Gold Coast single mum Lisa, Melbourne architect Robert or charity worker Stephen.

In an emotionally charged final episode, they have four days to transform and beautify three empty brand new houses for first-time homebuyers.

They are playing to win $100,000 and the fabulous design tour, visiting famous design landmarks and meeting some of the best designers in the world.

But, there is almost as much at stake for the clients.

They are first-time homeowners who have poured their savings into their new Mirvac home.

It’s not only bedrooms, living rooms and kitchens primed for the makeover; it’s outdoor living as well. As befitting a grand finale, the results will amaze you but the question is will the clients love what our three finalists come up with?

And who will Jamie and the judges award the Top Design?

Top Design, hosted by Jamie Durie, Wednesday, September 7 at 10.30pm on Channel Nine and 8.30pm on GEM.

Well, it has been a pretty eventful week in reality television with one massive launch; a few surprising eliminations, and a hell of a lot of renovating.

The week began with The Renovators. After competing in a two day bathroom creating challenge; the navy blue team consisting of Michael & Jarrad won themselves a much needed $15,000 Reece bathroom package for the hardest room to renovate; the kitchen!

In an all too predictable judgement day Monday; the biggest team in the competition; the sky blue team; won themselves a few tradies for a few days while the green team went into their first elimination.

During that panic room elimination episode, a distraught Mel brought herself together with her and Keenan edging out elimination; only for team captain Jason H to take the bullet. Before he left; he graciously gave his keys to Keenan, making him the green team’s new head renovator.

Wednesday saw the contestants build some lights, and oh what a lovely episode it was.

Orange team Peter did the unthinkable and pretty much shunned Judge Robyn’s verdict on his less than impressive light for The Victoria Room, with just a simple, demeaning facial expression. Safe to say, the orange team found themselves in elimination with the fresh out of hot water green team, who had just lost a member.

In what seems like a pity move; the khaki team, who are struggling with their renovations, won a working bee which pretty much guarantee’s Nathan and Suzanne’s immunity next week. Although it must be said, their light was pretty impressive.

In the four way elimination, Bob, Keenan, Peter and Mel faced off sorting chairs in chronological order. Keenan and Mel fought their way out of elimination early, leaving Peter and Bob to try and completely paint around a ceiling rose neatly in the fastest time.

Team captain Peter won this challenge; sending hearty Bob away. Unlike Nathan, Peter will not have the luxury of choosing a member from another team to join him; and he is condemned to face the rest of this competition in an empty house alone.

Funnily enough, nothing seen on The Renovators last night was copied into Top Design, which went all out with a triathlon event of three designing challenges. With four contestants remaining, they could have easily built suspense by awarding the winner of each round a place in the finale; but with the episode pretty much taking on the same form as usual; this ‘mega-challenge’ just seemed too rushed and way too rehearsed.

The Farmer Wants A Wife was a teary one this week as spicy girl Belinda left an already heart broken farmer John even more heart broken when she chose to pack up and leave the farm. Elsewhere, Tenille snuck a cheeky snog from her farmer (Tim I think his name is; or Frank).

But this episode was no match for emotions than the now relatively powerhouse launch of The X Factor. We saw Iraqi war victim Emmanuel, breast cancer survivor Pamela and girl turned boy Paige take to the stage in a wondrous display of talent only fit for a Seven reality talent quest!

Summing it up; it was a pretty big week; but onto next week!

The Renovators is pretty much the same, so I won’t go through this too much. Two more eliminations await I believe as well as the usual challenges and how to class which is most definitely on its final leg!

Top Design has its finale this week; and safe to say, it will be up there with the event-like finales of MasterChef, The Block and Australia’s Got Talent. Actually, at 10.30pm, it will probably be the crown glory in what is shaping up to be a horrendous schedule on Nine’s Primetime Wednesday slot. Bit sad, really.

The X Factor showcases some more talent on Monday and Tuesday before the all important Boot Camp stage begins. Who will make it through to House Calls? Who will get the cut?

Make sure you are watching all of this week’s reality television and remember; come to me if you miss anything.

Delays in blogs will include Monday’s judgement day instalment of The Renovators which will be posted up on Tuesday afternoon. Top Design’s final episode will be posted up on Friday.

Next weekend; I will be introducing you all to Ryno; whom some of you may know. He will be blogging certain shows while I will be away including The X Factor and The Farmer Wants A Wife. Anyone who would like to blog The Renovators will be welcome to do so; just drop me an email; but for now, Ryno will give you an insight into what you guys can expect from him as he introduces himself! Treat him nice; his blogs are of high quality, trust me!

In what will probably be this show’s penultimate episode, tonight we find out who will be making it to the grand finale. Either three of Steve, Chris, Lisa and Rob will get this distinction and for the other one, it is all over red rover!

We start the episode near the beach where the four contestants are heading while discussing their place in the top four. Jamie is waiting for them at the end of the pier and welcomes them to the second to last challenge of the competition.
He points out all the fit people running about the area and tells them that their goal in mind is to win. Themselves; they will be competing in their own ‘design triathlon’ consisting of three challenges and the contestants conclude that these challenges will be harder than ever before.

They rock up to Location One; and their first leg of the competition. Their challenge will be to design a window display for Coco Republic.

Rob already feels behind the eight ball on this one and they will only have five hours; something that scares Lisa. They must deliver wow factor.

Their creative juices flow as they take their props and design their windows. Lisa’s prop is apples; Rob’s is balloons, Steve has rope and Chris has what looks like the easiest to use; wood. Rob thinks Andy Warhol for his idea and Chris thinks wall mouldings.

The contestants then go shopping and with only 45 minutes to spare, this will be the shortest shopping run in the competition so far.

They rush around for their design and Lisa continues to run amok as usual throughout the competition for a jet engine mirror which Rob really wanted.

Rob sees all the stuff that represents ‘aircrafts’ and thinks it could go well with his balloons.

Chris will have a NY early 80’s theme and is happy with what he sees.

Steve wants a boxing ring theme for his window and finds a lot of good stuff as well. It isn’t long before shopping is complete and the contestants head to the Top Design HQ to create their backboard for their windows.

Lisa is going for a stripes design, but she can’t seem to get her stripe design straight! She has to start again and one hour slips away from her! She won’t manage it; will she?

It takes Lisa three hours to get success with his stripes and she can finally work on painting them in!

Meanwhile, Chris isn’t too happy with his shell, but soon, the contestants have to get their shells in and get ready to design!

Their props turn up and they place their stuff in with Lisa expressing how happy she is. Chris isn’t happy as he realises his second fault; the artwork he picked may not be able to be hung on his wall!

He ends up stringing it above the wall and he is finally impressed with his work. Five minutes to go and they all stress to get everything done and I find it funny how it is the contestants who have to call times up in this show.

The judges then go to inspect the four windows and first up is Lisa’s. They all seem to be wowed by it with Lisa extremely happy with her back wall.

Next is Steve’s room but the judges don’t give too much away. Chris is next to be judged but he doesn’t get too much positive feedback with Jamie criticising the business of the room. Last is Rob and Nick wants to know why he has cross hairs on his windows which is there to cast the eyes into the window!

After deliberating the results of the first leg of the triathlon with the judges, Jamie comes in to announce the winner. There were two stand outs which means two winners!

Rob and Lisa won the challenge and they are thrilled; but Rob doesn’t seem to be too happy in the cutaway.

Part two takes place the next day and we get a few more shots of athletes running past the beach before the contestants rock up to decorative events and exhibitions for leg two. Jamie is awaiting them and tells them that they will have one hour to create a design for a table. It could be for any occasion of their choice; but it will be the last time they will be seeing the table.

They run for their tables and Lisa gets what she wants, but again, Chris isn’t too impressed. They then run for their chairs and Lisa and Steve fight for a chair.

30 minutes are down and they all then collect their tableware for their respective tables. Rob is thinking wedding reception while Chris is going for a South African party table. Steve is thinking 1930’s swing.

Time is soon up and they finish the second leg of their competition.

Jamie then hurriedly tells them that there is only one stand out; Lisa. Chris’ face is priceless as Lisa wins her second challenge. Rob is bitter; saying her table was too cluttered.

Their third task will be to take their table into a marquee where they have to design a celebration based around their table. They have $5,000; 2 days and carpenters at their disposal!

They head in and design their marquee with Lisa bringing two types of her table for a country races theme with a catwalk.

Steve wants the celebration to be an 80th birthday with a dancefloor and space for a jazz band. Rob will obviously have a garden wedding theme with a tree theme around the edges of the marquee.

After the break, the contestants are going shopping and Lisa thinks Chris is a shopping freak. He is designing a gay wedding design, with a South African theme.

Rob gives the contestants their 10 minute call over the PA system which isn’t crazy; it’s just scripted!

Chris finds that they don’t have enough fabric at the shop but he will have to take what he can get. After shopping at Spotlight, they head to Sydney Props for their design ideas. They can’t believe what they find; including a gold man for Lisa; a big gong for Steve who pops his head out from between props quite dramatically and a chariot for Rob (and Steve as well). Seriously guys, you are near the end of the competition and now the contestants are showing personality!

After a few more shots of athletes, we head into day two of the competition and Rob is unhappy with how Lisa is extending her marquee and Rob thinks she is cheating. Rob must really hate Lisa but Chris feels this is because Rob is not in his element and he is taking it out on others.

After the break, we get a recap of everything that has happened so far before we get back into the designing of these friggen marquees. Despite her extension, the contestants are amazed at how fast Lisa is working.

Steve however cannot seem to get his roof done; something that could lose him a place in the final three.

Chris finds a solution to his lack of satin problem by draping the fabric around differently with the hanging of two ties to emphasise the gay theme.

Meanwhile, a massive horse prop is brought in for Lisa’s design while Rob is struggling with his marquee; especially considering the fact that paint has dripped onto some of his fabric.
The contestants then go on about how hard the challenge was and how draining it is. My god; they don’t have a bead of sweat on them and they’ve been fucking around in chariots for half of the chariots! Seriously, if this was a hard challenge, the producers didn’t convey this properly because from my angle, everyone seems to be succeeding quite well.

Steve thinks he will be going home at the 15 minute mark but as everyone gets their stuff in, it seems people will eventually get somewhere.

2 minutes and people are panicking. 1 minute and nothing has changed. Soon enough, time is up and the contestants have done what they can to get in the finale!

The contestants then discuss their jobs out back and Chris believes his is the best. His does look very good.

The judges come in and judge the room and Nick wonders if he would use this much satin for his own engagement party and Chris is confident that the judges wont eliminate him.

Next up is Steve’s 80’s party room and Jamie tells him that the fact he could only decorate half the roof would definitely be a downer.

Next is Lisa and her Races themed marquee which could give her three straight wins. We actually get a close up of Nick’s clip board and notes but I can’t read any of them.

Amanda asks what ‘this contraption’ is here; pointing at the runway catwalk. Lisa is concerned she hasn’t done enough.

Last is Rob’s intimate garden wedding themed marquee. It does look like a lot of work has gone into building this.

Amanda does wonder if the candles on the floor would be safe around the fabric or the bride’s dress or around kids. This could definitely ruin him.

Jamie tells them that this week’s elimination will be different; saying they will speak to them individually, rather than as a group. He says their answers will determine who could enter the finale.

Rob is first to be interviewed and he feels confident having won the most challenges.

He thinks Lisa broke the rules and that he had the best design.

Chris realises his mistake with the window design however he deserves a place in the finale as he has so much to offer.

Lisa is next and she discusses her grand marquee however she acknowledges that she needed to do more work.

Steve thinks it is him who will be going home and Amanda kind of disses his design. Is this elimination going to be that obvious.

The judges discuss with Jamie the different designs before the contestants are allowed back in for the result.

This is crunch time. Jamie awards Rob as the winner of the Marquee challenge, and this week’s winner overall; 5 for the competition. He is the show’s first finalist.

Chris is next for results. The judges slam his design before moving onto Steve and slamming his. As Steve writes himself off in a cutaway while grinning; we can pretty much say goodbye Chris.

Lisa’s design is also panned; but not really slammed.

Jamie then announces that the person missing out on a place in the finale is Chris. The contestants are all shocked; which is a contrast to how much they bagged out the intruders in the week they arrived.

One of the biggest problems with this show; how it feels so cut and paste rushed, really shows in this episode. It’s not like on MasterChef where an episode containing three challenges feels like an event. It just feels more rushed and more insignificant.

If anything, it feels as if the producers are tired at this point. One more episode guys, one more episode.

Courtney’s Verdict: 4.8/10

Just a little heads up to fans of Top Design. Due to GEM’s decision to remove Top Design at 8.30pm; I am no longer able to blog Top Design live. I have to be up at 3.30am for work, so I can only tape the 10.30pm edition. Because of this, and a long Thursday plus the fact the blogs I do for it get limited reads anyway, blogs for the last two episodes of Top Design will not be uploaded until Friday afternoon.

Sorry for any inconveniences. This message will be taken down at 4pm.

More last minute programming changes from Nine – this time on GEM.

Tonight, the 8.30 airing of Top Design has been dumped, leaving just the 10.30pm airing on Nine for the few fans of the show to catch. The show only has one more week to run anyway, before its finale. Last Wednesday, Top Deisgn on GEM was watched by 106,000 viewers.

The Thursday night replays of The Big C and Weeds on GEM have also been dropped. GEM’s line up for Wednesday and Thursday night from 7.30 looks like:

Wednesday
7.30 The Zoo
8.30 David Attenborough’s Tiger – Spy in the Jungle
9.30 The Closer
10.30 Rizolli & Isles

Thursday
7.30 Joanna Lumley The Jewel of The Nile
8.30 A Dream Home Abroad
9.30 Embarrassing Bodies

It was a huge week of reality television last week; well, for the first part anyway. The Block finished on a huge 3.2m viewer high; making it the biggest reality television event for 2011 behind Australia’s Got Talent and MasterChef Australia’s finales.

Polly & Waz won the show after shockingly becoming the only couple to sell their houses at auction! Katrina & Amie, Josh & Jenna and Tania & Rod walked away from the night with nothing however the latter two couples did make some moolah after the finale. Katrina & Amie broke even.

With that, The Farmer Wants A Wife and Top Design were the only reality television programs left on Nine with Farmer having its big, yet slightly oddly timeslot placed, launch.

Six farmers picked from, for the first time, seven girls, to join them on their farms. Some of these men picked the mysterious family-chosen seventh woman, while for some farmers the first six were package enough. Three were chosen for each farmer and it won’t be long before some of those gals will be shown the door!

Top Design has now pretty much been shunted to GEM (or 10.30pm on Nine if you include that timeslot as ‘prime time’) and after a pretty impressive task involving the contestants building rooms based around emotions, Dee was sent packing in what some would say was a confusing elimination.

The Renovators reeled from losing Fiona, but it also had to say goodbye to Kim and Lisa from the orange team after a panic room and stress test challenge respectively claimed their positions in the game. Navy Blue Michael and Jarrad won a working bee for their home and a mid week barbeque area building challenge saw for the first time in the main challenge, teams work together with half of them going into elimination.

Like with MasterChef finale week, this was a real fizzer, but it is all set to kick off again with a hefty week to come.

The Renovators will be up to its usual tricks and twists again with another two eliminations, a white room and an offsite challenge and hopefully some more renovations! We are heading to the half way mark now, so I expect to see some progress!

Top Design will eliminate one more contestant before its finale, but really, it is just a sprint to the finish.

The Farmer Wants A Wife moves to Monday permanently, which is a pain, but the real event here is the launch of Seven’s third overall season of The X Factor.

Mel B, Natalie Bassingthwaighte (god, that will be hard to get right under tight time constraints), Ronan Keating and Guy Sebastian are back to find all the good singers out there to compete for the title of Australian Idol! Of course, the best they’ll get is a shabby hotel room next to Altiyan Childs.

So, it’s going to be an interesting week of reality television; definitely a different feel than of previous weeks. It is sure to fire up, so be here, or be queer… am I allowed to say that?
