DS Stuart Turner (Doug Rao) is injected with a lethal dose of heroin by murder suspect Danny Peters (Neil Bell) and is rushed to hospital. As he recovers, he is devastated to discover that Peters used an HIV-infected needle.

However, after his arrest Peters engages a well-known brief Graham Boyd (Brendan Patricks) to negotiate a reduction in the charges - murder and grievous bodily harm - by promising to reveal a major heroin smuggling operation.

With information supplied by Peters, DC Stevie Moss (Lucy Speed) goes undercover as one of his heroin-addicted girls to penetrate the importing ring. However, Stuart's prediction that it's much too dangerous comes true when Stevie's mobile - carrying the tracking device - is driven away in another car.
