Small time criminal 'Jacko' Jackson is found dead in his grandfather Johnnie's (Edward Woodward) flat. Sgt Smith (Alex Walkinshaw) is not convinced the old criminal would kill his grandson, especially after Johnnie's efforts to get Jacko away from the influence of his uncle Roger Hutton (Johnnie's illegitimate son) (Tim Woodward), who is now in custody for drugs trafficking and prostitution using illegal immigrants.

But DS Max Carter (Christopher Fox) thinks otherwise. So when Johnnie is found at the cemetery covered in blood, and can't remember what happened after he and Jacko exchanged heated words earlier on, they take him in. But Doreen Fallon (Ann Mitchell), Johnnie's long-time lover and the mother of Hutton, says Johnnie was with her.

Hutton is a suspect because Jacko had 'grassed him up', and his partner-in-crime, Andreas Audra (Ivan Marevich) is also in the frame because 'Jacko' knew he was the one who brought in the girls.

However, when Jacko's girlfriend's bloodied fingerprints are found at the murder scene, the team decides that Johnnie is the only one who can tell them what happened...
