PCs Emma Keane (Melanie Gutteridge) and Sally Armstrong (Ali Bastian) are called to a break-in, but the knife-wielding intruders run off, having been fought off by the householder, Tim Lock (Adrian Scarborough).

There's a lot of blood at the scene, and one of the intruders is found badly injured in the back garden. The evidence suggests that Lock may have used unreasonable force, so he's arrested for attempted murder.

Keane and Armstrong are convinced of Lock's innocence, but are unable to find the knife. Frustrated that the now identified accomplice Joe French (Philip Correia) is taunting them, they concoct a plan to trap him.

Meanwhile, DCs Mickey Webb (Chris Simmons) and Kezia Walker (Cat Simmons) discover that Lock's business is in trouble, and that he's in debt to loan shark, Ray Baker (Jonathan Coyne). However, Baker gives them information that puts Lock's daughter Caroline (Joanna Horton) in the frame...
