Sgt. Nikki Wright (Gillian Taylforth) and PC Roger Valentine (John Bowles) come across a young schoolboy Alfie Eagan (Adam Arnold), who's been assaulted. When they arrive to tell his mother Charlotte (Charlotte Randle), they find the flat's been ransacked. Charlotte tells them that Alfie's dad Carl, who's on parole after a seven year stretch for drug dealing, was living with them, but bolted three weeks ago.
Investigations reveal that Carl was heavily in debt to a loan shark Jason Dawes (Peter-Hugo Daley), but Dawes reckons Carl had recently made good his loans. When cocaine is discovered in the young Alfie's room, he denies it's his, so the police presume it belongs to his father. DCs Jo Masters (Sally Rogers) and Stevie Moss (Lucy Speed) talk to Sammo Taylor (Michael Begley), one of Jo's old informants who was in the park the day the boy was assaulted, and he tells them that Carl is involved in a drugs turf war with a violent man named Lucas Walsh (Paul Ireland). When Carl is subsequently found dead in a hothouse full of cannabis, and crime scene investigator Eddie Olosunje (Jason Barnett) declares he's been dead for 11 days, police assume Walsh killed him. He's arrested, but convinces them he's not the killer...
