Tonight Ernie Dingo hosts a Europe special from the UK, where he takes a look at modern Manchester, London and Newcastle.

Interweaving its mementos of the past with dramatically modern 21st century-style and technology, Manchester thrives to the beat of its futuristic urban soul. A ride on the 60 metre high Wheel of Manchester provides a great perspective of the city; a walk with a local blue badge guide highlights the music and architecture; and for genuine snow culture, Ernie visits the Chill Factory, the UK’s longest and widest indoor Alpine ski slope.

While London is considered the most volatile and ever-changing city in Europe. If traversing the high-speed railway line from Paris to London, the St Pancras International is not only home to the slick and super efficient Eurostar, it offers so much more, including Europe’s longest champagne bar! Sharp dressing is required for such travels and a visit to the buzzing Carnaby St reveals the epicentre of cutting-edge threads and the ultimate quirky shopping.

And once famous for coal mining and ship building, north-east England's unofficial capital, Newcastle Upon Tyne, or Newcastle Gateshead as it has recently been titled, is one of England's most dynamic urban cities with a good reputation for a wild nightlife. And when it comes to icons, there is a notable likeness between Newcastle’s Tyne Bridge and Sydney’s Harbour Bridge.

Tom Williams meanwhile, gets a taste of real Scotland during the Scottish Highland games, where he enters the Callander Highland Games and gets a real taste for this long-standing Scottish tradition as well as mixing with the interesting locals involved with the events.

Andrew Daddo heads to Cassis, a sleepy seaside town at the foot of the majestic red-rock Cap Canaille, with its narrow streets, earth-tone houses, boat rides to the vertiginous Calanques, a medieval castle and Provençal street names.

And Jennifer Hawkins discovers the young, fun side of Madrid in Spain - its tapas bars, terrazas, cafés, shops and museums.

THE GREAT OUTDOORS is presented by SHELLEY CRAFT, ERNIE DINGO, TOM WILLIAMS, ANDREW DADDO and JENNIFER HAWKINS.
