Hosted by the effervescent James O'Loghlin, The New Inventors highlights the brightest new inventions in Australia.
Tonight's show features new ideas on how to test a boat anchor on land; fold a guitar in half and still play it; and stop opened wine from going off.

Deciding the winner of these three inventions are agricultural scientist Chris Russell, designer & inventor Sally Dominguez and futurist and author Mark Pesce.

Inventions featured on the program are:

Invention 1 - T.A.T.S - TIDAL ANCHOR TESTING SKID by inventors Rex and Brendan Francis from VIC.
After a few scary experiences with slipping boat anchors, Rex Francis and his son Brendan wanted to design a better anchor. But, there was no reliable way of testing their designs, so they invented TATS - the Tidal Anchor Testing Skid. It measures an anchor’s holding power and, because the testing is carried out from the shoreline, different anchors can be compared simply by testing them at the same time and place. Tidal Anchor Testing Skid - helps inventors invent a better anchor.

Invention 2 - ELECTRIC NOMAD by inventor Luke Klinkenberg from NSW.
Carrying a guitar might make you look cool, but when you're traveling they can be downright tedious to travel with. That's why industrial designer and musician Luke Klinkenberg came up with the Electric Nomad. It's a standard sized electric guitar designed to collapse in on itself. The neck retracts into the guitar body without having to be separated, and the strings are automatically wound up onto a coil. The Doctor from Triple J and Frenzel Rhomb makes a guest appearance and gives the Electric Nomad a rocking demonstration. Electric Nomad - the collapsible guitar that fits in a small backpack

Invention 3 - WINE PRESERVA by inventor Barry Rees from VIC.
Ever asked for a single glass of wine in a pub or restaurant and found it was off? It has happened once too often for Barry Rees, so he decided to invent a way of keeping open wine fresh for days. His Wine Preserva is a circular disk which is inserted into a bottle of wine after the first glass is poured. It sits on the surface of the wine, forming a floating barrier between it and the air. The invention slows the oxidation process, and preserves the wine quality for up to five days, so there's no more excuses for drinking the entire bottle as soon as it's opened. Wine Preserva - days-old wine tastes as the winemaker intended it.

The New Inventors will be repeated on ABC2 - Friday, July 25 at 4:30pm
