THE NEW INVENTORS: GRAND FINAL
Final Wednesday, 28 November 2007
Five inspirational inventors will vie for ABC TV's prestigious 'Invention of the Year' when The New Inventors 2007 season climaxes with a spectacular one-hour Grand Final special on Wednesday, November 28th at 8pm.
Celebrating and showcasing the best of Australian innovation, The New Inventors host James O'Loghlin introduces the final five contenders selected by the judging panel from the vast array of over 100 inventions that have appeared on the popular show this year. From this final five - one will be named 'The New Inventors 2007 - Invention of the Year' - and win an amazing suite of prizes worth thousands of dollars from IP Australia, CSIRO, AusIndustry and Austrade.
Judging the final five contenders will be engineer James Bradfield Moody, science broadcaster Bernie Hobbs and designer Sally Dominguez.
An exciting new award in 2007 is the inaugural 'Bright Spark Award' for the most outstanding young inventor of the year. It's been introduced for inventors 18 years and younger to encourage and acknowledge young inventors, innovators and designers. The 'Bright Spark Award' is aimed at inspiring and celebrating young inventors who are trying to create a better and smarter future.
The 'Les Is More - Big Heart Award', in honour of the well-loved and sadly missed New Inventors' panellist and radio presenter Les Miller, will be presented to an inventor whose invention represents the countless number of inventors who have appeared on the program motivated by their desire to create something that helps others.
The perennially popular 'People's Choice Award', voted by The New Inventors viewers throughout the year will win the prize of a flight to Hong Kong to exhibit their invention at the Hong Kong Innovation and Design Expo.
The five finalists include one who totally rethinks the design of a chainsaw and so reduces the main cause of injury in what has always been a dangerous business. Another rethinks the motorcycle helmet with the aim of making your head safer. The third invention can automatically call your doctor if your heart is acting up. The fourth cleans water very cleverly, and the fifth is a coupling that....well it's kind of complicated, but it's amazing.

Dear Sir/Ms,
Some months ago I have watched your TV program on innovation and inventions, I was most impressed with the invention using bamboo sticks to tie up bricks between walls to prevent earthquake causing homes from collasping. Pls send me more information of the invention and to contact the inventor.
China's latest devasting earthquake would need reconstruction soon. I believe the inventor's idea can be applied to the inner villages reconstruction programs. I would like to contact the Inventor.

I had the pleasure of watching the episode that demonstrated the revolutionary coupling designed by a small company in Orange. Coming from an engineering field I was exited of the endless possibilities this coupling has. The world has been waiting for a solution for an age old problem and looks like we may have it. Fantastic show. Love your work
