Hosted by the effervescent James O'Loghlin, The New Inventors highlights the brightest new inventions in Australia. Tonight's show features new ideas on how to make dirty water drinkable, help reduce the risk of SIDS, and make your patio a more flexible entertaining space. Deciding the winner of these three inventions are materials engineer Veena Sahajwalla, designer Alison Page and woodworker and teacher Richard Vaughan. Inventions featured on the program:

Invention 1: Electronic Water Purifier by inventor Dr Vivian Robinson from NSW
The Electronic Water Purifier enables anybody anywhere to convert polluted water to a drinkable standard at a fraction of the cost of bottled water. Invented by physicist Dr Vivian Robinson, the Purifier is a small battery-powered device that removes chemical pollutants such as arsenic, detergents, oils and heavy metals and then cleans the water until it's crystal clear. Intended for use in disaster areas and by campers and people without access to potable water, the purifier needs just 15 minutes to clean three litres of water. Electronic Water Purifier - turns dirty water into drinkable water.

Invention 2: Snugabub by inventor Alison Dique from QLD
When Alison Dique was looking for a safe cot sheet for her newborn baby, she soon gave up in frustration. Determined to fix the lack of safe baby sheeting, Alison invented Snugabub sheets - sheets that are designed to reduce the risk of the baby becoming entangled in excess bedding or being able to pull the sheets over their head. The sheets are fitted at the base and tailored at the top, and because they are the length of the baby and not the cot, Snugabub sheets ensure parents place their baby at the base of the cot. Snugabub - the sheets that ensure cot safety for babies.

Invention 3: Legless Bar by inventor Adrian Venz from QLD
The Legless Bar is an attractive and non-intrusive invention that allows extra table space for entertaining. It's a small table or shelf that clamps onto the existing support post of your patio without damaging the post in any way. The Legless Bar can be easily removed or height adjusted, and because you haven't had to screw or bolt anything to the post, there are no unsightly holes to cover if you move it. Legless Bar - it makes your patio a more flexible entertaining space.

The New Inventors will be repeated on ABC2 - Saturday, October 25 at 6:05pm
