First Jamie Durie, now Curtis Stone – Oprah just can't get enough of our Aussies! Get your tea towels ready, because your mouth will be left watering after watching today's episode - Oprah's first Sandwich Showdown.
To start the show, Oprah's best friend Gayle travels around the country tasting six sandwiches from the list of 'America's Best' compiled by Esquire Magazine. Among the six includes a chicken parmesan sandwich from Perilla in Greenwich Village in NYC - the owner of the restaurant is Harold, the winner of the first season of Top Chef.
Oprah's sandwich challenge takes grocery shopping to the extreme - think Ready Steady Cook on Oprah! In the second part of the show, three celebrity chefs - Ingrid Hoffman (Simply Dilicioso on the Food Network), Tyler Florence (How to Boil Water, Food 911and Tyler's Ultimate on the Food Network) and Aussie Curtis Stone (Take Home Chef on TLC) - and three Oprah Show viewers have only a matter of minutes to buy the ingredients they need to compete in Oprah's Sandwich Showdown. Once the ingredients are bought, the teams will have only 25 minutes to make the most original and delicious sandwich creation. Can they get it done in time?
The teams and sandwiches included:
Blue Team - Tyler and Madeline: "Ron-Trey Entree" - Pot roast on a toasted roll with garlic and olive oil topped with cheese, sage, and a caramelized onion and cranberry marmalade.
Pink Team - Ingrid and Emily: "Chicalicious" - Lobster, chipotle mayonnaise, avocado, poached egg and bacon.
Black Team - Curtis and Andrea: "Earth & Surf" - A falafel and pita sandwich as well as a crab cake sandwich.
Padma Lakshmi - supermodel, actress, host and cookbook author - from the series Top Chef -is on hand to serve as a judge for the sandwich showdown. Padma explains that the three major points for judging would be presentation, originality and taste. And with prizes valued at over $7000 to be won, the stakes are high for the winning sandwich!
