The Nine Network Australia announced today it has commenced production on a local version of The Singing Bee, NBC’s new smash hit variety show, where it’s not how well you sing but how well you know the words that counts.

The Singing Bee premiered in the US, on Tuesday July 10 at 9.30pm on NBC with an average of 13.1million viewers, making it the network’s highest rating new show since 2003.

Viewers swarmed to the program which is a variety competition which challenges contestants to accurately sing the lyrics to popular songs - even when the band stops playing.

The Singing Bee is a karaoke showdown, with no middle ground for partially correct answers -- contestants must be perfect or they're out.

Family-friendly, broad in appeal and conducive to playing (and singing) along at home, The Singing Bee features popular, recognisable music that inspires hilarious wrong answers and amazing performances by those rare contestants who somehow manage to get every word right.

The Nine Network has commenced production on a local version of The Singing Bee featuring both international and Australian song content, for Australian audiences.

“Half variety show, and half game show, The Singing Bee is great all-round entertainment for the whole family, and we are really looking forward to bringing it to local viewers in September,“ said Michael Healy, Nine’s Director of Programming.

"Classic" by ADRIAN GURVITZ

Got to write a classic
Got to write it in an attic
Babe, I'm an addict now
An addict for your love
I was a stray boy
And you was my best toy
Found it easy to annoy you
But you were different from the rest
And I loved you all the wrong ways
Now listen to my say
If it changed to another way
Would the difference make it
Would it be a classic
I gotta send it right away

Got to write a classic
Got to write it in an attic
Babe, I'm an addict now
An addict for your love
Gotta write it down and send it right away
Got to write a classic
Got to write it in an attic
Babe, I'm an addict now
An addict for your love

Now I'm living my life
One day at a time
Since losing your love
I've been losing my mind
No more can I see
The future so clear
And it's not what I mean
I mean it's not what it seems
I just keep living for dreams
And it's not what I mean
I mean it's not what it seems
I just keep living for dreams

Got to write a classic
Got to write it in an attic
Babe, I'm an addict now
I'm an addict for your love
Gotta write it down and send it right away

I wonder when Channel 9 decided that we in Australia should watch a program on Sunday night that showcases Australians singing on a gameshow to prove that they ARE not idiots should sit through that show and listen to an AMERICAN HOST.
I am an Australian and a very proud Australian and I WILL NOT LISTEN TO AN AMERICAN PRESENT AUSTRALIANS TO AN AUSTRALIAN AUDIENCE.
Channel 9 sould be ashamed and I will bet you that if KERRY PACKER was in charge I would not be sending this comment because I reckon that he would not have a bar of it.
The slow process of the Americanisation of our culture has just got a dirty great big boost by the dickheads that run Channel 9.
Channel 9 STICK THIS SHOW UP YOUR ASS BECAUSE I AM NOT INTERESTED.
As of today Sunday 11th November - ARMISTICE DAY - I will not watch channel 9 / 3 in Newcastle (a supposedly proud Australian television station) ever again.
Last week on the only true Australian television station (ABC) we had a show dedicated to the Australian language and I think that channel 9'S dickhead bosses should have a very hard look at this show just to remind them exactly where we came from, and the very real need to make sure that we do not ruin this unique language. Channel 9 has in my opinion nailed a HUGE nail into the coffin that carries the AUSTRALIAN language.
CHANNEL 9 I AM NOT HAPPY AND NEITHER ARE MY CHILDREN BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT BE WATCHING ANYTHING ON YOUR TELEVISION STATION AGAIN WHILE I AM IN THE HOUSE (NOT THAT YOU HAD MUCH TO WATCH ANYWAY)

STICK IT.
